I mean with the wheel laying flat, lower the car onto the sidewall with the disc pushing down on the side wall. But then again not sure a smart car will be heavy enough.

I mentioned the front because you have drum brakes on the rear.

If you’re concerned about damaging tyres you should probably take it to a man

Take the front wheel off and lower the cars disc onto the side wall of the tyre.

Failing that take it to a fitters.

We wouldn’t race if it wasn’t for marshals. Plenty of places to go. Can register for various motor clubs such as BARC, MSV, 750mc too. https://www.marshals.co.uk/.

My friends colleague does it and is always getting free tickets to pretty much every race going

They increased the reach for the v2 so maybe worth going a bit shorter. I tried both a 40 and 50 and settled on the 40.

The trails haven’t kept up with the way MTB has gone with trails getting more technical.

BPW offers an uplift service and better gravity focussed trails all closer to a lot more people. You also have a lot more riding in non official centres across South Wales.

Personally I don’t enjoy Afan at all. Lots of pedalling and very little reward. If they did a BPW type thing and focussed on descents with an uplift BPW might get some serious competition as the hills there have massive potential.

Mines £230 through dealers. £160 at a local indie.
4L of Castrol 0-60 for M cars is nearly £50. I keep an eye out for offers at Euro car parts and change the oil between services.

Inspections 1 and 2 are good ones. £700 and £900 to shine a torch in places.

The fun is from the trail. Not the bike so much. If the trail is dull it is dull on whatever bike. If its fun then it’ll probably be fun on any capable bike. Then going faster makes I more fun

I guess you need to consider if you can grow your business with a move. Shouldn’t just be to make staff happy. Although it is important you keep your staff. No staff, no business.

    Or offer flexible working arrnagements.

The bikes are never going to be lightweight xc whippets so as long as you can get it up hill and you’re having fun going down who cares?

Have a few energy bars or gels to eat between stages as you want to keep your energy up rather than bonk. No rush to get to the top so save your energy.

Don’t carry the weight of a person in your back pack if you use one. Generally you just need a spare tube, a multi tool, a c02 and some water. If it swings by the car park or has feed stations use a bottle if you can so you refill it rather than carry loads of weight.

I agree. Seems like changes that should have been on the 2017 model though.

Now a lot of people with the last model bike that’s only a few months old. Bound to have knocked some value off second hand prices

Bridleways are boring except for scenery. I think there is some confusion with what natural trails are. Some clearly think its a bridleway. Others must be thinking of local made steep single tracks like Dyfi

Trail centres don’t require much thinking about.
Good for when conditions elsewhere are terrible but generally I avoid.

Prefer it steep and natural or local dug single tracks where I’m forced to think about line choice (not boring bridleways).

    New Speciailized 2FO shoe

I always just buy new 5.10s though as they work. two to three years seems fair to me for the mud and abuse they get

The Myndd track has nothing technical unless completely flat out. I’d say it’s pretty dull but for one run it may do.

Can get to the top from the Twych. Just turn off the forest road at the high point and carry on for a bit.

With the money you are looking at spending I think you’ll end up with something ropey that you won’t enjoy driving or get the most out of.

Proper day van things go for good money but they seem to keep their value so maybe worth it

I can see no harm in riding a 125 for longer if you have the money for a few days rental or even buying one.

Being familiar (second nature) with the bike and it’s controls before the DAS will be a big help.

And 125’s can be fun. Probably the only bike you can rag while being within the speed limits.

I think they’re mostly about rider fit tbh.
Not as if 27.5 hasn’t been winning DH and EWS lately so can’t see the obvious benefit of 29″ wheels overall.

I think its pretty good at removing grime too. I usually hose the bike and chain first though.

I really think it’s due to trail bikes being better and giving people an alternative that is maybe better suited to their weekends.

When I raced I knew quite a lot of people and had a pretty wide circle of friends. No one I know now races DH. Pretty much everyone still rides but not DH.

Hoping that somehow we still produce talent for the world cups. But with this situation it’s only going to get harder.

Just do top halves until lunch cutting out the worst of the climb at the bottom. Then full run back for lunch and see if you can get on the bus with some single uplift tickets as there is space in the afternoon as people drop off.

    Agreed ^

It isn’t your typical recent war film. More focussed on individuals and I thought they told their stories well and conveyed the emotion well.
And I’m glad it wasn’t just a 2 hour blood bath to be honest.

A lot of war films weren’t ‘saving private ryan’ all action drama type stuff.

^They would do well to remind people of that.

Nothing overly difficult especially compared to stuff like the UKGE put on. Quite clear some never venture beyond trail centres.

    Too many people.

    SRAM.

So I can have Rock shox. Fox are too expensive and I don’t like the feel and serviceability. I don’t really like mixing brands for some reason.

They’re also good with warranty and race support.

Shimano have been standing still a bit with innovating (Di2 isn’t needed on an mtb with a 1x.

And only having two clamps on your bars is a bonus

And their brakes aren’t as good. Sure they’re cheap and powerful but I find it impossible to get front and rears to feel consistent. And two pots don’t offer such good modulation. Stoked on my guides still.

spare a thought for all those losing their jobs.. today all petrol and diesel engine development will stop.. highly skilled jobs lost right there.. no investment in engine building plants either.. going forward every single petrol station will close.. every single manufacturer of fuel delivery systems will close down, petrol tanker drivers and manufacturers of tankers will close down. and then the taxation.. where will the cuts come.. at present 80p ish of every litre of fuel is tax at my forecourt that means approx. 170k per week say 8000 petrol stations in uk thats a trifling 1.3 bn a week!! thats half the nhs weekly budget..gone.

Sure taxation will need to change but industries come and go and people re train and do different things. No different to what people thought would happen when computers started appearing.

I’d be way more concerned about AI.

It’s now up to the government to put pay to lip service and deliver the necessary infrastructure.

For the future a general level of fitness is needed for the day. If you’re fine riding all day you should be ok.
For stages you need good aerobic and strength. Ability to sprint. Remember to breath.

But more important (but don’t forget fitness) is technical skill. That’s not riding trail centres fast. You need to ride loose, technical, multiple line choice tracks.

Find some local tracks and just practice riding them without stopping, ride up and repeat.

But don’t worry too much. Just go and enjoy the tracks with no expectations of a result. See how you do and where you can improve.

Not sure why you’re commenting after your first line saying you had little experience?

I doubt Strava is replacing racing because it’s nothing like an actual race.

One of the main issues was that back 10/15 years ago if you wanted gravity based riding you raced/rode DH as there wasn’t the do it all bikes and large amount of trails we have now.

You can have a 6″ travel bike and ride anywhere and everywhere.

DH is struggling for other reasons too. Even the French nationals. Because it’s the same tired tracks and limited amount of riding for quite a lot of expense.

People will either be uplifting or on a trail bike somewhere.

A lot of former DH racers are racing Enduro too.

    joefm

Its trail riding or enduro I would guess. Like a mountain bike. Lots of skills such as reading terrain are transferable. You’ll be fine.

Either pump your rear tyre up hard or get a dh casing rear tyre.

Only took a bottle, tube and multi tool. They had feed stations.

Yeah I think they should have some form of ASL at the junction.

Cyclists will always try to get to the front of the queue so with all that space for the left lane filter I’m not surprised so many were cutting across.

Lorry design really needs updating to get rid of that blind spot. You can’t expect everybody to obey the rules all the time so you have to be aware of other users.

As long as you’re comfortable who cares what you wear. I don’t see mtb gear being restrictive. Unless you plan on dancing or something.

Although I avoid urban areas and shops/eating and drinking places in mine.

And if you’re just out for just riding some miles then you shouldn’t be bothered about things like aero.

so basically no reason for lycra
