My OH has tested positive for Covid (feels like a bad cold). I was negative and am symptomless. I was also Vaccinated a few weeks ago as I’m classed as vulnerable which is a pretty good job. Not sure where she caught it other than a brief trip to sainsburys/M&S.
The vaccine (AZ) gave me manflu over the weekend that I had it but pretty stoked on having it now. Before I wasn’t sure it would work or make a difference cos of lockdown.
Hopefully everyone can get their vaccines soon. Not sure what happens next winter, probs need a booster or for it to be in a normal flu jab

Should point out that, when i was bitten as a toddler (not the dogs fault, i was stood behind at tooth level and it turned around), i didn’t get over being afraid until I was at least 16, this was partly because of a lack of experience with dogs. We always had cats and no dogs. So I never got a chance to get over being bit.

It was years before I had the chance to get acquainted with them and learn about them, and now I live with a stupid old Dalmatian and I genuinely like dogs.

Reacting too quickly may mentally scar him for longer. If you end with no dogs you may end up causing years of terror for him. But I’m not his dad and only you and your wife know the situation.

I thought Kevin was being harsh too. A lot of that timber was dead and past the point of being conserved. It would have been nice to keep some but I feel the building wouldn’t have been long for this world anyway.

Getting rid of the dog seems harsh, especially if he was provoked. Training for him and the boy would be better for all.
Having said that, i got bit in the face when i was a similar age. I was afraid of dogs for a very long time. You’ll just have to see how he gets on. And if he’s ok, then its lesson learnt.

While you can practice posture, braking etc (front to scrub speed, rear to steer)the fundamental thing you need to do is work out how to read the trail.
Some parts you’ll pick up speed no matter what, you need to identify where you’re going to brake to take off the momentum. I.e if there is a rut or catch berm use it to slow, or steer. Kinda like skiing moguls.

There are a huge number of reasons. But mainly that planning over the last 50 years or so has been disjointed and builds in car dependency because everyone has cars. Whether this is the size of development I.e small ones build can’t tackle the infrastructure alone. Yet large ones take years to get through and are even more unpopular. But done right they could reduce the need for journeys by car.

This government has made some of the right noises about infrastructure. But the cash to implement it is woeful. They announced a fund of £2bn for cycling and walking but have only announced £175m of funding spread across all authorities. RIS2 for instance is £27bn. Yeah road stuff is expensive but it shows what is still thought of as most important.

The active travel funds are tiny, and need consultation on every single one. As you can guess these are basically red rags to a bull/gammons. If we had the power to do as we like, things would be better.

They published LTN 1/20 which is is useful and goes beyond anything I’ve seen but for cycle infrastructure , rather than delivering an acceptable shared use path, has made schemes either impossible, due to space or has pushed costs up 4 or 5 times. So potentially it has stopped some good schemes.

Then there is behaviour. Fundamentally, the vast majority of people are too lazy. Driving a car is too cheap. Without serious national policy to stop small trips then the status quo will continue

Research shows people would make more active travel trips but there’s no backbone to get things done.

Less time than a ‘normal’ house. 😉

I would have liked to have seen the calculations. That was a lot of concrete pouring, digger driving, earth moving, lorry driving building. And for 14 degrees. **** that. If he doesnt compliment it with something, the next owner will.

I liked the house. I just dont think it’s a realistic endeavour in this country to produce low carbon homes en masse. The odd one here and there due to the cost of the builds isn’t going to make a difference.

So how many years before the carbon used to build it is offset by living in a fridge?

No sure what the MotoGP guy can bring to F1 for Alpine/Renault.

People management? He has been fairly fundamental bringing Suzuki back to MotoGP, and after 5 years making them a title contender. At that level, it’s not technical role so lack of F1 experience shouldnt be an issue. Getting used to the paddock and team, way of doing things will be different but he should do a good job.

is your garage detached? I take it no heat source?

If it’s to combat damp it may be easiest to to improve air flow. Either tile vents or some sort of extractor fan.

What is the issue with the post?

    have a read of this:

    https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/ghetto-reverb-full-service-kit-bodgetastic/

I took mine apart and fixed the top squish with no specific tools and no new parts (except for oil) last summer. It just needed to be reset.
It’s pretty easy tbh and you could sort the IFP.
Bodges i used. I undid the top collar thing when it was in the bike.
I didn’t have an IFP tool but a piece of wood with markings on did the trick.
I had a golf shaft holder and a vice to open the IFP. These are cheap.
For oil height I used a syringe as per the link.

We have a Simba. It’s a hybrid I think. Most comfortable one and similar to the previous smaller mattress that didn’t cost a fortune when we tried them out at John Lewis. They often have offers too.
some of the online ones like simba have a money back offer too.

Just be wary of people punting share opportunities as too good to miss, multi bagger etc.

It also depends what you want to do, trade or just sit on it (invest)? Trading is a lot of effort imo and too many cons. But if you want to make a bit of money with your £300 it is an option. but it is akin to gambling. Just do your research, set yourself a goal i.e. top slicing at 100%.

You’ve chosen some relatively low risk stocks so expect slow growth. you could Just sit on it and switch off. in a couple of years you may have a bit of profit. Set yourself some timeframes anyway

I’m only just up after 2 years because of a couple of junior commodity stocks – nickel and copper and a tech stock. I made a fundamental mistake of investing in some oil and gas plays which may as well have been bets at the casino. I’ve been patient and am prepared to wait while i can afford it.

I think Merc started working on theirs months ago. Aston Martin should be fine, they’ve had 12 months to see what their car would look like. Based on the last few years, Red Bull will turn up at the first race with something half finished and have a world-beater for the final three races.

Aston Martin/RP have had since the start of 2020’s season to copy Merc. they should be fine.

Dad entered us into an sprogs xc race in 1992, malvern classic i think. riding a bit before then so over 30 years. It was on some kind of fluorescent scott. Been racing xc, then dh, then enduro since but last year was the only year I havent raced barring early 2010’s when I had no knee.

    joefm

My Pitch was no where near as capable as the subsequent 27.5 Enduro. It didn’t climb or accelerate as well. Sure I could thrash it but it was not as fast.
But what does it really matter.

Is the weight thing also a result of increasing costs? Like in 2015 a mid range spesh enduro was £4500 and was about 30lbs with X01. For that level of spec we would have to spend £7k? So as a result a lot of us are buying lower spec, heavier components for the same money?

I build my SC up with fairly robust parts these days. Alu bars, heavier casing tyres with inserts… Best to finish a stage rather than have a super light bike and puncture etc. Finding the right balance is key. It climbs ok. With the draggy tyres its never going to be a rocket but going down is more fun than riding up a fire road so I’m ok with that.

The Guardian. It’s pretty central and good reporting. Some opinion pieces can be a little left leaning but on the whole it has far less bias than the others.

I’ve only had ones that came on the bike. 2 of which were Reverbs. Both have suffered top squish. But they do seem repairable at home. I think if I was buying one I’d go brand x as they seem simple and i could get a remote to fit a matchmaker.

an immob usually isolates the fuel pump and ignition circuit. So it wouldnt catch, if it was immob related. Likewise if it is electrical.

Since we’re straw polling i’m going with fuel related i.e the pump(s). Try and listen to them prime. You could even whip a fuel hose off and see. Could just be an airlock too.

I think Perez is slightly average tbh. He has had a good year, topped off with a win as a result of a Mercedes blunder and some good strategy, but that RP is really good. Stroll even seems decent. He’s been outshone by Ocon and Hulk before.
Be interesting to see how he gets on in Max’s car but I think Max will still be well ahead, as he is genuinely one of the best.
Feel sorry for Albon. ushered into that seat halfway into his rookie season, in a car set up to be difficult to drive and then expected to be on max’s wing. Needed long in to Toro rosso. You can see how Gasly has rejuvenated himself out of the team in a more normal car.

The Disaster Artist is a good film, didn’t make me want to watch The Room though which does seem to be generally regarded as the worst film ever.
As I recall that was an accolade frequently given to Showgirls, a film I managed about 10 minutes of

If anything after watching 10 minutes of The Room, The Disaster Artist appears even better.

I’m not sure you can count the room as ‘film’ as it is too amateur but it is so bad.

We have a lazy dalmation now he’s old, before he was quite active. Still cant leave him for 10 hours though. He’d go to OH’s mums during the day before lockdown.

I’m still at home working but busy so quite lucky he’s lazy. I’d recommend a lazy dog.
He still likes a walk though.

I’d get your predicament if it was surfing, not bodyboarding?!!?!
    Jokes aside.

I learnt to surf as a teenager as my parents had a caravan in South Wales. I continued through Uni as the surf was easy to get to. Even then there would be **** all decent surf for ages. And i hated cold winter surfing when waves are best. Trips abroad were the best times i had on the board. I live on the south coast now, 2.5 to 3 hours from any surf so surfing doesn’t happen anymore.

I’ve been riding MTB longer and things like surfing when there is surf and snowboarding on a powder day can be amazing and possibly better than a day mtbing.

But MTB is more reliable, especially for where i live. I can plan on going riding, and the hill is there whereas I can plan a three hour trip to go surfing and it can be blown out shit.

Surfing for me is one of those things you do if you’re lucky to have quick access to decent surf. It’s a shame but I’ve got other hobbies… Each to their own, you don’t have to justify your preference.

Would Hamilton have pitted in that situation? I dont think he would have, with a few laps to go and the pace he would have had, he would probably think it was a risk not worth taking…
I’m not sure what Merc have to gain by unseating Bottas for 2021. As long as they have Russell in for 2022 they’ll have continuity.

Perez has had a great season. The RP is certainly capable and the team seem to know their strategy, so they’ve been in the right place at the right time. And how well do people really think Perez would go in the RB? It’s car built around Max with a massive front end balance. Gasly couldn’t drive it and is competitive again back in a more normal car. Albon is still getting to grips with it. They’re not shit drivers.

do wonder, with the barrier split, how much harder the railing would need to be and what the consequences would have been if it had been sufficiently strong not to move.

The railing deforming and the car breaking in half dissipated the energy of the accident. If the front of the car had not penetrated the railing, then all that energy would have been concentrated on the safety cell, which may not have been strong enough to withstand being crushed between the engine/gearbox and the railing. In that case, you would probably have a dead driver.

The Armco needs to move to dissipate the energy. That’s its fundamental advantage over a concrete barrier.
A case in point here would be Allen Simonsen’s fatal crash at Tetre Rouge, Le Mans in 2013. There was ARMCO but they were right up against a few very big beech trees so there was no give and the forces were un-survivable as a result. They altered the corner from 2014 so they could realign the armco .

In the case of that barrier at Bahrain, it will probably be judged that it needed a rubber conveyor belt over it to stop penetration. Unfortunately it sometimes takes incidents like these to realise the danger. And generally speaking that barrier was at least 100m after corner exit where they tend to think the danger is reduced as it’s a straight…

It was extremely lucky that he was able to get out when he did, with him not being knocked out and the way out the cockpit wasn’t blocked. Thought the worst. Brave Marshall’s and medical staff too.
He’s a really nice guy too. Glad he’s ok. Probably not how he wanted to see out his f1 career but he’s relatively unscathed.

Car is appreciating slowly, which is good because i barely do 1,000 miles per year in it and if it was costing money and was sat not doing anything it’d be bad. But i cant bear to part with it. 8k rev limit, plenty of power without being silly and RWD brings plenty of smiles when i do drive it. And realistically it feels as if its as good a car as i’ll ever have.

Van- it’s still going but it does camping, load lugging and it’ll be sad when it does go…
