Skandi Flicks all the way!! We were just talking about this the other day. I seem to find I’m still on the brakes on the exit of corners!! Predominately ride Tweed valley which means if you lean to much on the corners you whack a tree! I really struggle with carrying speed down half these trails! I’d say I wasn’t slow but I feel pedestrian at times!

For emergencies I always have some Uncle Ben’s rice packets. Throw in some veg, chorizo and feta you can’t go wrong. Frozen corn, peas and edamame beans are fine. Softer stuff like peppers etc aren’t great frozen. Cooking a whole chicken then bagging up the rest in individual portions is great for curries.

This is my first time, any tips or advice.

I was on the waiting list and just received a place! Signed up for the 200km and like you I haven’t done this (or anything remotely like this) before. I was supposed to be doing the Frontier 300 earlier in the year but it got cancelled and my training fizzled out after a few niggling injuries!

WTF is with the small flies though.

    They’re attracted to bad smells I think😂😉

I did the same so have to bear some responsibilty also…

Thanks for stepping up to the plate and sharing this burden! The state I left Edinburgh in yesterday was weighing heavily on my mind 😉

Feed the Pony’s had some work done to it. One of the longest trails in the valley. A quick scoot along to Walkerburn then up the fire road through Old Caberston forest would be a good test for the first stage!

Edit – or No Social as it’s easier to get back up to the Golfie from the bottom of it.

It’s partly my fault as well! I stuck a Minion semi slick on the other day! Sorry

The last two replies are exactly what I was thinking. I’d congratulate my son for being such a tenacious, crafty little sh**!! He totally owned you 😂😂. I’d be well proud!

I recently tried the Fizik Terra stuff (it’s gravel specific dontcha know!). It’s actually ace. Really grippy and thick. Comfortable on long rides.

    Boswall, between Trinity and Pilton

Or the “Buffer Zone” as I call it! I’ve lived in this area for about 15 years and it’s lovely and quiet. Close to beaches at Wardie and Crammond. Doesn’t meet your countryside criteria but you could drive to the Pentlands in about 30mins or cycle there (mainly off road) in an hour.

He could well of just been out drunk a load of beer, had a joint or 2, pulled a whitey, threw up and fell asleep.

I doubt he’s become a crack head overnight.

Couldn’t agree more. T could easily have been “tokes”.

I’d go hardtail! You’ll gain more on the climbs than you will on the descents! Trying to overtake on the descents becomes hard when there’s a train of 20 folk in front!

Surely you’d take the lid completely of the Tin?!?!

I’ve been meaning to come back to this thread! It finally arrived a couple of weeks ago. This is my first small tent so nothing to compare it with but I think it’s brilliant. I bought the Aeronaut 2 which is slightly over 1.7kg with the separate footprint and all the bags. It all fits completely into a 7l saddlebag. It took just under 4 minutes to pump up the beam with a (rubbish) mini pump. I reckon I could have it up in well under 10 minutes. Plenty space for 1 person. Two people would be comfortable as well I think but no room for kit. There is a little porch area but it’s not massive. The door could possibly be propped up as there’s a toggle in the bottom corner but you’d probably have to bodge something to do it. All in all I think it’s great but not used it in the wild yet.

Edit – still can’t post photos!!

You could choose to switch off your tracker if you didn’t want another rider to know where you were. Particularly relevant when thinking about overnight stops.

Ah! Cheers. I assumed they had to keep them on at all times.

Dot watching would be more fun if folk didn’t play games with their trackers…..

As someone who hasn’t “dot watched before”, how do they play games?

Dream MTB would be an Ibis Mojo HD5 with full on bling. I have the HD3 but there’s a couple of tweaks they’ve made which make me think it would be perfect. And I’m currently waiting on my dream Gravel bike which is a Mason Bokeh GRX Di2. Been waiting since January for it but won’t be here until at least mid June ☹️
