    Count me in please. Already follow you DrP. Hopefully I’ll not get stuck on the virtual turbo on any group rides! Just enrolled on the program. I was on week 5 of the shorter FTP builder. Need some motivation after a few months off the bike due to injuries. I have a long race planned for June so really need to up my game a bit!

    Start at Speyside and then head to the west. My favourite Speyside is Mortlach 16 but the 12 is nice. Oban Little Bay is a cracker but don’t touch it with water as it disappears.

    Plucked from the internet so it must be true!

    Legal definition of Scotch whisky
    “Scotch whisky” means a whisky produced in Scotland:

    (a) that has been distilled at a distillery in Scotland from water and malted barley (to which only whole grains of other cereals may be added) all of which have been:

    processed at that distillery into a mash;
    converted at that distillery into a fermentable substrate only by endogenous enzyme systems; and
    fermented at that distillery only by the addition of yeast;
    (b) that has been distilled at an alcoholic strength by volume of less than 94.8 per cent so that the distillate has an aroma and taste derived from the raw materials used in, and the method of, its production;

    (c) that has been matured only in oak casks of a capacity not exceeding 700 litres;

    (d) that has been matured only in Scotland;

    (e) that has been matured for a period of not less than three years;

    (f) that has been matured only in an excise warehouse or a permitted place;

    (g) that retains the colour, aroma and taste derived from the raw materials used in, and the method of, its production and maturation;

    (h) to which no substance has been added, or to which no substance has been added except:

    water;
    plain caramel colouring; or
    water and plain caramel colouring; and
    (i) that has a minimum alcoholic strength by volume of 40%.

    Another couple of kg down. As I said last week, a better diet post Xmas plus kick starting exercise does wonders.

    Out of interest what exercise are you doing? I’ve sat on a turbo nearly everyday for two weeks and hardly lost a thing! Running takes the weight off me but I’m injured just now and can’t run!

    Any chance of an invite? New to Zwift and think I didn’t do my first FTP correctly so might give this ago! Just followed you on Zwift DrP 👍🏼. Jody B is my user name but don’t get exited as I’m a hairy assed bloke with a girls name! I do wish all the Zwifters that try and hit on me on the way past would give it a rest tho 😂🙄 Ride on indeed!!

    That’s more like it! Some blue ones of those in 27″ x 1″ would be awesome.

    Check out the Panaracer website (I can’t do links!) they also do a Purple (they call it Pansy) tyre with tan wall.

    Edit – Sorry, not in your size!

    Suspension definitely not needed but I bought one of those Redshift stems and it was tremendous. Took a lot of strain out the wrists.

    On the waiting list for next year! First timer last time. Used Panaracer Semi slick Gravelkings and they were ace (the course was bone dry). I did the 200 which was the longest ride I’d ever done. Always new I’d make it to the end, just didn’t know when 😳. Aimed for 10 hrs and came in just under 11. Gutted I’ve missed next years as I’ve signed up to the Frontier 300 and hoped to get this under my belt first!

    Races like this I wonder what Charlie would have done. I like Massi but I think Charlie would have got a handle on things more quickly and with a firmer hand.

    Absolutely. Charlie would’ve controlled this season in a much better way. There’s been too many nervous decisions by Massi this season.

    Surely Lewis would’ve lost downforce while being brake tested which makes it easier to understand how he went into the back of Veerstappen (Best spelling mistake ever!!)

    My Mothers just sent me this text after hearing from her pal in Innerleithen!

    “Eileen’s just text again to say biking trails in Innerleithen are all ruined x”

    They’re both in their 70’s so there might be a bit of exaggeration/ dramatics in the text 😂

    I’ve just taken my 12yr old down it and he thought it was ace but did comment on the “consequences” if he were to overshoot some of those corners. There’s no way I’d take my 9yr old daughter down it. I genuinely couldn’t believe how dangerous it looked if anyone were to overshoot some of the corners nearer the top! I believe the consequences of things going wrong should be considered when designing different graded trails. Also, the sections of fence they’ve installed on the lower sections seem very close to the trail. The fence isn’t exactly well designed as the angle of some of the planks used could cause some serious injuries. Fully expect a few wee hands to be rattled off the fence at some point!

    I’m far from an expert (the STW way!) but the build quality of most of the trail seems very poor. It looks like lots of mud dumped on the mountainside. How that will withstand the weather I’ve no idea. There were already some deep muddy holes developing in sections.

    There will be lots of families take their inexperienced kids down it because it’s a blue but it won’t be suitable for them.

    Last point – Halfway down the trail splits so you can join Top Cheif. I wonder how many folk will take a wrong turn and end up on the black. My son didn’t see the signs and headed onto the black. I’m glad I was just behind him and noticed it otherwise things might’ve been different.

    I think that your thread title is actually very disrespectful to people with actual life changing decisions to make without a sense of humour. This is Singletrack, NOT Facebook.

    I was once chased through a large park by a yappy little dog that clearly didn’t like bikes. I kept going, and going, and going. All the while the dog kept chasing me. I always wondered if the dog made it back to its owner or was kept on a lead after that!

    With MV entering F1 at such an early age and showing such promise I really think that he was advised to never concede a corner so in preceding years he would have built up such a reputation that everyone will get out his way. Hamilton’s now on to him!

    Marshals were all awesome. Cheers Jon. Out of interest how much climbing was involved? I though I’d read it was about 2500m but my computer recorded just under 4k! No wonder I was slow 😂

    First time I’ve ever done an event like this and only recently started doing long distances so I’m well chuffed I managed it in 10.46 which is over my target of 10 but at one point I thought I’d take about 12!! The next 30km from the last feed station was a slog for me but managed to get round the last 20k fairly fast (for me). I carried four clif bars and ate 15 clif blocs and stopped at the last 2 feed stations. Loved the event, hated the midges! Definitely going to try it again now that I know what I’m in for!

    As someone who took up running last year and suffered the exact same thing (I used to get shin splints if I walked too far!) I would recommend Hoka Bondi shoes and the following stretch helped so much!

    Kneel down with your toes pointing away from you so the tops of your feet are facing the floor. Gently sit back on your heels and feel the stretch on your shins. I can’t emphasise enough how much this stretch worked. Suggested by someone on the running thread.

    I’m taking as many clif bars and blocs as I can manage! Probably 6 bars and 2 or 3 packets of blocks. I’m liking the idea of pepperami so might take some of them and also some rolls for later. As above I have a tendency to keep going as I hate stopping! I’ve never done anything like this so I’m open for better suggestions!

    Cheers, I was leaning towards the GravelKings.

    I’ve heard GK can be a bit fragile,

    I took them on a 100 mile bikepacking trip round Pitlochry and they held up well. The gravel up there is made from boulders 😳. I was more concerned about grip levels but I probably won’t be going fast enough for that to be an issue 🤣
