I’ve just completed a 300km gravel ride with next to no training. 3x 80km off road rides and 1x 175km road ride were the only training rides I’d managed in the two months before the race. You’ll be fine, especially in a group.
I can’t imagine that anyone in F1 will want to be seen in public with Piquet. He has ties to the Verstappens but I doubt that Red Bull will want him hanging around as their guest. Shit like that is just a huge distraction that the team managers won’t want to have to keep answering questions about.
I think you underestimate how low Horner would stoop to upset Hamilton or Wolff. Piquet is probably on a First Class flight to Silverstone as we speak!
I signed up to this when it was first scheduled which feels about 10 years ago now! This was my “post cancer” challenge and I loved every minute of it (well, most of them!). Lots of moments will stay with me forever, like flipping a coin in Newcastleton to see if I should continue or not as I was done! I lost (or is that won?) the toss and had to continue but I’m so glad I did! The guys on the cargo bike high-fiving everyone on the hideous climb out of Langholm. And the last 100k that was made a lot easier by a group I latched onto. A group of which I have remained in touch with and will probably meet up in future for more bike related shenanigans! All in all it was a fantastic event which I will sign up to again. For anybody thinking of doing this in the future it’s actually easier than you think (but not that easy!). Thanks to all the organisers and volunteers, I had a blast!!
Peebles area for first week with trips to Melrose, Three Brethren, Fatlips Castle etc.second week I’d spend in Dumfries & Galloway. A hugely under appreciated area with loads of cycling, walking and “Dark Skies” areas.
Fair play to her! It was a great event. The volunteers were great and the two bampots on the cargo bike made my day (cos I knew they’d have to climb back up the hill they came belting down 🤣).
About 19hrs for me, which I’m very chuffed with given my training (or lack of) regime! Got dragged round the last 100k by a good bunch. Did anyone catch the story of the lady that came in this morning? I though I heard she rode a section twice! Great event and loved every minute of it – except trying to pitch my tent at 11pm with a broken back!! Teepee for me next time!!
Is it a bike manufacturer that’s bought it? There was mention of this on a recent GCN show. Trek etc buying up lots of independent bike shops. At least it’s stil there 👍🏼👍🏼
What kit is everyone taking? I’m hoping to do it in one go but would it be prudent to take cooking equipment in case it goes wrong! Anyone taking a tarp/ bivvy?
Relax folks, every single pint of beer (568ml) in a pub is dispensed through a 3/8” pipe using 3/8” fittings to reduce it down to either 5/16” or 3/16” at the tap which might use a 3/4” nozzle. However, the water lines keeping your beer cold are 15mm. If that isn’t an analogy on how the EU/UK relationship works I don’t know what is 😂🙄
Looking at the elevation profile at around the 5 mile mark it looks like it jumps up by about 600ft in not much distance. Is that right or is it an error? Fair play if real but the contour lines make it out to be fairly level.
Cracking course (although there will be a few complaints from roadie riders 😉). I’ve cycled round the valley for years but hadn’t been on some of these tracks. The climb up to the Souther Upland Way was a joy 😳. It just kept going up and up! Great volunteers, especially at the feed station although the water lady was concerned she hadn’t seen her partner who was riding the course. Hope they were ok! All in all a great day finished off with a cracking Burrito 🌯
I signed up for it 2 yrs ago and last year I was the fittest I’ve ever been! This year, not so fit and 3 stone heavier! I will be riding a bright green Mason with too much luggage in case it all goes wrong! See you all at 4.15am!!
I’m always surprised by the type of driver that pass extremely closely on the Peebles to Edinburgh road. Guaranteed every single one of the worst offenders will have a bike on the roof!
Start at Bonaly and go straight up to the reservoir. First bits a tad steep (Puke Hill) but it levels off. Turn right at the gate then walk up the hill directly in front of you (Harbour Hill) which takes you to the top of Maidens Cleugh. Decend that then turn right following the road past Loganlea reservoir. Through Green Cleugh then down to Threipmuir Reservoir, pass Harlaw reservoir. You can then head over to Clubbiedean reservoir which takes you back to Bonaly. Enjoy.
