    Mountain biking or road biking?

Now you can add Wild Cycling 🥳

    ‘wild cycling’ did you say…

    There’s always one!

and as if that is not enough there is ‘really wild cycling’…

    But sometimes two!

Just because you hadn’t heard the phrases until recently doesn’t mean they’re new things. Get over yourself, it’s just a word!

    But definitely “always one” 🙄

I regards STW as a substitute to sitting in a pub and talking guff. I am currently talking guff. Sorry for having a laugh!

I reckon steep is when its easier to ride down than walk down! Half of Caberston in Innerleithen is steep.

Anywhere around Loch Tay. Lots of lodges etc and loads of options for walking, kayaking or cycling. The Queens road to the Falls of Acharn or The Birks in Aberfeldy are nice easy walks. We’ve stayed on the South side of the Loch a few times and it’s fantastic.

Floundering a bit recently so only managed some brisk walks.

    @scotroutes
regarding your shin issue, have you tried kneeling down with the tops of your feet facing the floor? Sit back on your heels and it gently stretches the shin area. I suffer badly from shin splints but this stretch was suggested to me on the running thread and it works wonders so might help with your issue.

Bit miffed this week as I missed a couple of days due to work! I wouldn’t mind if it was my fault but on the upside I got a free trip to the Isle of Harris!!

Some Zwift and weights this week and
a wee jaunt round the Tweed valley with some mates I’ve not seen for a while.

Another week of Zwift. Wk 3 of Gravel Grinder completed. A couple of weights sessions and a 30km easy loop to the Forth Bridges. Easily my favourite (and easily the easiest) loop around Edinburgh!

Day 99 – sorry @keefezza! and apologies in advance @welshfarmer as your not going to like my post! I started this at 94.5kg and I’m already down to 89.9kg (yes I’m using decimal places!). I suffer from MILF issues (medication induced lifelong fatness) so I put on weight really easily. I battled down to 79kg last Christmas but as soon as I let exercise drift the weight piles on. 15kg weight gain in a few months is scary! Aiming for 85kg by Christmas. A few Zwift sessions this week. I’m doing the Gravel Grinder 12wk program so hopefully this’ll keep me focused ’till the end!

I totally forgot about this challenge until my wife reminded me at 9pm tonight! 30mins of weights while watching Grand Designs!

That’s the best way to ensure an improved FTP next time.

If it’s any lower then I quit!!

Started a Zwift program today. Began with a ramp test for FTP. The point of an FTP test is to get as low a score as possible right? Right?

Another march today. Managed nearly 8km and the knee is holding up. Might try a run in a couple of weeks! Out on the bike tomorrow after the Dad Taxi duties are done.

30mins of weights this evening. First time doing weights in a long time. First week done which is longer than I managed last year!

Is this the 3rd year we’ve been doing this on STW?

First week nearly done 🥳🥳. 90km on my bike and some fast walks. Breaking myself in gently as I don’t want to risk this knee flaring up. Hopefully manage some runs by the end of this!

    Tested covid + this morning.

Hopefully you can still exercise. It’s derailed a few attempts at this in previous years!

I managed a lovely 60km ride round the Pentlands today. Took some lovely photos but don’t want to steal scotroutes thunder! (It has nothing to do with me utterly failing every attempt I ever make at posting photos on here!!)

Started off easy with a 40 minute fast walk before work. Stopped to watch the swimmers in the Forth and thought sod that!

I’m going to give this a shot. Loved it the first year I tried it but failed miserably last year due to a dodgy knee! Still have knee trouble but need to shift the 10kgs I’ve put on recently!!

I thought there was also meant to be a law that limited damages but it doesn’t looks as though there is which is great

From what I understand, in Texan law, there is a cap on how much has to be paid out. This is a law that was introduced by none other than the current Governor of Texas – Gregg Abbott. A guy who won $8 million in damages. A true conservative- what’s good enough for me, is not good enough for you!

    Yup

    Thanks @simondbarnes

Do it yourself, it’s really not that hard.

    I really am that ham-fisted!

What price were you expecting as a matter of intrest?

I walked into another LBS a few months back and was quoted “about £100”. The guy seemed very disinterested in speaking to me so not sure it was a genuine quote. I very rarely use an LBS so no real clue on pricing these days!

Thanks for all the advice. I have most tools except the star nut tool. I really should use the LBS but drunk bike building is strangely appealing!!

Look out for the obligatory “Help, I’m an idiot” thread

Redshift stem makes a massive difference – 20mm of travel but it feels like more.

Definitely this. Probably the best upgrade I’ve ever put on a bike (except maybe a dropper post)

On another note, I’ve been having a lot of problems using the site. I think it’s advert related, and I lost my original post here… so hopefully this works. Apologies if it appears twice.

It’s a test to see if you’ve got what it takes to hang around! 🤫😉

My last bike was an Arkose 5 with SRAM Force. It lasted years and was bombproof! It had a rough life and I never had to adjust the gears once. Not sure of current spec/geometry but going on my last one I’d highly recommend.

Mason Bokeh. I will have a 54cm frame in green going soon. I’d recommend it if your feet are size 8 or below!

Apparently you can call the help line and tell them your travel dates and they will expedite so you get it (just) in time. But lots of phone calls and chasing

Yes & no. I applied ten weeks ago. Not heard anything since. Applied for an upgrade two weeks ago. Heard nothing. Dozens of phone calls with differing advice every single time I spoke to someone. Ended up going to the passport office who were brilliant but can’t do anything until you’re within 48hrs of travel. Managed to sort it after being extorted for more cash. Upgrade is £66 and takes a week. I applied for this 10 days ago but was told yesterday that I need the Fast track service as I travel on Monday. This is £100. I obviously paid but seems a bit sneaky to me!

If the call centre was as informative and clear as the staff at the passport office were I would’ve had a lot less stressful few days!!
