Clubbing on STW, I’ve not been on this forum long but I believe this behaviour is frowned upon.

I don’ know what The Departure Lounge is/was like but here’s my suggestions. I’ve not been for years but we used to have a laugh in Fingers Piano Bar on Fredrick or Hanover St. The Cav is still open (called Lave/Ignite now) and that was always full of an “older” crowd. Espionage will probably be full of youngsters but there are plenty bars to find a table to base yourselves at. My wife recently ended up in The Revolution ( I think thats what its called) on Lothian Rd and had a very poptastic blast (ABBA etc). The Electric Circus looks really nice but don’t know the age group. I’d stay away from Liquid Rooms, Citrus Club and the Beehive. I’ve worked in all of these while they’ve been closed so can’t tell u what thet’re like when open. HTH. Let me know what the Departure Lounge was like and I might have better suggestions.

I also grew up in the Borders and would hate to go back. Most of the councillors are 80+ yr old. Rugby players, Masons, Police. All the same innit? Just look at what the council let Tesco and Asda do to the town centre in Galshiels. For those that don’t know, they basically moved the A7 so it goes straight passed these 2 stores and completely bypasses the Town Centre. Galashiels is now dying!

Gonna ask the obvious, so apologies, but have you checked there is 250psi in it. Mine wouldn’t drop recently and that was the problem.

But look how the summer turned out! Maybe this weathers a sign of better things to come.

I wouldn’t recommend a Specialized Hotrock! Pedal back brake is rubbish and the front brake lever is to big for my nearly 4yr old.

If your ever gonna be led astray, John “don’t go changing” Paisley and Rog’ are probably the best guys for the job!

Apologies to the OP for the blatant hijack but it’s not everyday you randomly bump into somebody on the same wavelenght!

    Thoughts are with you bud.

We went through this a few years ago, the life an soul of the party decided he didn’t want to be around anymore. A big group of mates went to bits that day. A bit of advice for further down the line is to organise some kind of event, maybe close to his birthday. We have a golf day, raise some money for charity. His family are involved and I think over the years it has helped them, as well as us.

And keep posting on here, it will help.

That’s the fella! I’m meeting up with him tmo. I’ve never made it down to Daves parties but my wife has been a casualty there before! Dave always slags me for being a “bike pipe” so its good to know there’s mtb back-up out there. If I make it down I’ll give you a shout, maybe I could do a wheelie across stage when Bobby’s on!

I’m in a similar situation but still at the planning stage My son, who will be 13 1/2, wants to go to a music festival this summer but not TITP. I was considering Latitude but it’s a hell of a long drive from central Scotland.

Try the Wickerman Festival. A lot of my mates who were die hard TITP fans wouldn’t go anywhere else. Its supposed to be really family friendly. I’ve never been so if you go and its crap it was nowt to do with me

There was a photo on here recently of the result of a crash with a Parachute. Punctured cheeks were involved which kinda put me off!

However I wouldn’t call it arrogance. Arrogance is assuming you are better than everyone else (which the English rugby fans are often guilty of), this is more like thinking other people don’t matter.

    FTFY

    Fair point tho.

For me, and it seems common in Wales, it’s not England the nation, it’s the English rugby team. We’re more than happy to support England at football, we even play cricket on the same team along with most other sports.

And your happy the England and Wales Cricket Board is abbreviated to the ECB. Which sums up the arrogance of English organisations- media, sport and otherwise. I have nothing against English people, I class myself as British before Scottish but just can’t be bothered with the aforementioned arrogance.

Started with a Lowenbrau “Triumphator” 7.6%, followed by a Hoegaarden “Grand Cru” 8.5% and now sampling a Kasteel “Donker” 11%. They have all been great although I will be snoring loudly tonight.

The Murrayfield Hotel on St Johns road, just outside the rugby ground.
Shakespeare’s on Lothian Rd (100yds up from hotel) shows all games on various TV’s and before anybody slags me, it’s just been refurbished. Any pubs further up Lothian Rd I’d avoid.
Ryan’s Bar across the road from hotel should be showing sport. And if you want a couple of bars without sport for another drink try Sygn or The West Room.

Deepest condolences to you and your family. My only advice is, hold your wife tight, your children tighter and be honest with them all. And stay off the bike for a bit, riding off road with this on your mind could end up with broken bones.

Well done for starting to stop. I stopped 5yrs ago and have never wanted one since. I was a heavy smoker and none of my makes can believe I’ve stayed off them so long. My best tip when you have a craving is to take a long, deep slow breath. HTH.

Anybody go there today. I’m thinking of going down Maidens then round to Harlaw via Loganlea early tomorrow morning. Is it worth it?
