@turboferret Make that 2. Stretches seem to be helping me.

A big thanks to everyone giving advice. Who knew running could be so complicated 😂

    Thanks for the explanation.

“ a taller shoe is inherently less stable, with an increased risk of turning your ankle.”

I also have fairly weak ankles so I’ll stay away from those!!

    Could you explain “drop” please?

I’ve not ran since my original post but think I might try again at the end of the week as the shins have felt better today. All the suggested stretches have been helping. I’m going to try walk/run as opposed to just running and build from there but wondered if decent shoes would help.

A few of the Johnnie Walkers are good. I really like the Green label. The old Gold label is beautiful and the XR 21 is fantastic! Blue label overpriced for what it is but still nice. If you buy one that doesn’t suit just stick some ginger ale in it!

Footwear tips please. Given my propensity to tendonitis in the shin area I’m looking to try a decent pair of shoes instead of going down the physio and custom made insoles route. Are there any brands that stand out? Would a trail shoe be any better? I’d assume trail shoes may offer more support but might be a bit heavier which wouldn’t do me any favours in the shin department. Sorry for all the questions but I’m really loving trying to run but petrified of getting a bad case of shin splints again!

    Definitely this,

“ Too many people snobby about blends. Blends are made that way to appeal to taste buds. It’s unlikely to be terrible, just less complex than most single malts”

Blending is a skill that far too many pretentious know it alls overlook without even trying them! There’s some bloody lovely ones out there.

A week in Dumfries & Galloway would give you time to do more of the 7 Stanes.

Cheers for the stretching tips folks. Feeling some twinges on the last couple of runs so a few walks and loads of stretching for the next week or two I think!

As the electrician who rewired our house said “Rewiring a house is the messiest job there is”. We’ve just built an extension and it was less upheaval than the rewiring was!

Thanks folks. I’ve found, over the years, I’m very susceptible to them whether through walking or attempting to run. I’ll give stretching a try. Any tips on relevant stretches.

Shin Splints! Any tips on avoidance? I am very susceptible to shin splints. I can even get them from walking which has put me off running for years. Finally took the plunge during lockdown and can now run a 5k in about 25mins. Any further than this and I can feel the twinges start (although I have managed an 8k once) but it’s not came to anything yet. I use running shoes and try and run 3 times p/w although I may rest a bit this week as lower legs are sore after yesterday’s run. I’m loving running as it’s improved my fitness for mtb hugely so any advice is greatly appreciated.

I took the kids to Grey Mare’s Tail on Monday and it wasn’t too busy, however, I did encounter more Midgies in 2 hours than I have in the previous 40 years of living in the Borders! I stopped counting bites when I got to 100 on one leg!

My 11yr old did some of the red for the first time last week and loved it. We went from the bottom of Spooky to Sare Fecht then caught the blue to the bottom as it’s always been his favourite bit. We’re returning tomorrow to do the full thing! I’d try and do Berm Baby tho, as it’s probably the most fun you can have on that hill, and it’s easy to add it in mid climb then continue up the hill

As mentioned, if you check the ones you want on the Adidas website it tells you if they’re made smaller or larger. It recommends you go up half a size on the ones I checked.

Not specifically name checked but Kayleigh by Marillion has the lines “Do you remember the Cherry blossom in the market square” and “Do you remember dancing in stiletto in the snow” are written about Galashiels. They’ve even inscribed the lyrics into the aforementioned market square!

Another fan of Tempest Brewery here and I’d also recommend Pilot Brewery from Leith. Cracking beers and they’ve just started a mail order pick’n’mix to keep them afloat during lockdown so well worth a look.

I had the Lunchbox many years ago and loved it. Always wanted the Clodbuster tho. Thinking of dabbling in this world again. Would anybody recommend the Clodbuster or should I just stick with the Lunchbox?

Ps or are rock crawler type cars good fun?

Psst! Mueller out on 22nd. Pass it along!

Mueller already has 50k+ emails that the Trump team thought they had withheld. He’s interviewed the whole team while already knowing the answers and by the time Trump can legally fire him he could have most of his team/family arrested. This coming weeks going to be interesting!

I’ve been impressed with my Highline. Really easy to install and it’s taken a beating in the 4 months I’ve had it. Yet to see how it handles Tweed valley slop in the winter but overall I’m chuffed with it and would recommend.

If British citizens buying homes in Spain and France distorted the market to the detriment of the locals, I would have no problems with believing their governments taking would take action to correct that situation.
