Was going to head up the Pentlands tonight but ended up cycling across Edinburgh to fix my wife’s puncture! Only a 28min cycle but I’m claiming it!

The streak reaches 200 days. Lovely.

Fair play. Are you aiming for a full year or just keep going?

And I’m well pleased as I’ve just managed a 5k run without any calf or shin pain for the first time in ages.

A tip I learned from the Running thread on here is to kneel down with tops of your feet facing the floor and sit back on your heels. From a constant shin splints sufferer this has helped me no end.

Well done! I can only dream of that distance! Sub 4 without a crowd cheering you on is impressive.

@stavaigan I’ve lost 11kg since last Christmas and I’ve mostly been running and eating a lot less crap. The STW mantra of eat less, move more has certainly helped me. I’ve built up to 5k’s with some 10k’s now and again. I’ve also done a few HIIT sessions in the kitchen. I can now comfortably use my drop bars which I’ve never been able to before so I’m taking that as a win!

PS. I’m knackered today so I thought I’d try that pilates video posted earlier! I’m now more knackered!!

Planned bike ride didn’t happen so ended up doing a dumbell HIIT workout and some abs exercises before I ran out of time!

A couple of 10k runs, a ride round Dunkeld and a terrifying run down Fort Bill DH track in the last week! Hopefully some less frightening rides this week!

I wouldn’t walk away from something that could affect my entire life after just two weeks. Stick with it, you’ve got the rest of your life to consider!

Anybody else starting to really struggle? How did you get your second wind for this project?

I just remember how fat I’ve been in the past!

If I’m struggling I just go for a good walk instead of knocking my pan in!

I’ve been wondering about getting arm warmers or putting up with the cold until it’s base layer weather. Is there a big temp difference between the need for one or the other?

Bad day at work so went straight out for a run. Did 10k then realised I did the same yesterday! Now in the bath with very tired legs!

Three hour loop round the Pentlands this morning.

Anyone know why routes uploaded to Strava from my Garmin have stopped showing the route map? It only shows the speed, time etc but no map!

Just tucked away a McD’s Double quarter pounder with a triple cheeseburger as a side and a caramel McFlurry for dessert. I’ve just added it to my calorie tracker! I wish I hadn’t!!

7k run for me this morning. Can we move Christmas to the end of summer next year to avoid the cold days?

God no, I’ve been looking forward to the cold weather for running!

Can you tell I’m new to this running malarkey!

Edit – How the hell do you quote other posts!?!?

Cheers Lunge. I can confirm it was bloody awful in Edinburgh this morning. 40 mph winds made for an interesting run!

After advice on here I spend a lot of time stretching. Calf stretches, glute stretches but the key ones (I think) for me have been –

Kneeling on the floor with tops of feet facing the floor and slowly sitting back on my heels

    And

Standing up while placing one leg slightly back with the top of yours toes curled under so they touch the floor. Apply downward pressure and you should feel the stretch.

    Also

Stand with feet shoulder width apart and roll your feet outward so you’re standing on the outside edge of your feet.

All these were advised by guys on here. I joined this thread on page 127 if you want to look there for advice. It’s helped me massively.

I only went and bloody done it! I know it pales into insignificance compared to most of you guys but it’s a wee goal I’d set myself. Shins complained until about 8k then they gave up moaning. Average pace was 8.3/miles and I did it in under an hour which was my other goal! Well chuffed! Now I’m going to spend the rest of the day stretching!

I’m trying for a 10k tomorrow! Combining the two routes I do so I can bail out halfway if necessary! I’ll report back tomorrow if I make it!! Good luck when you try it!

Update from the bloke with shin splints. Stretching, stretching and some more stretching seems to be doing the trick along with a new pair of shoes. I went for a fitting at a running shop and came away with a pair of Hoka Bondi 7’s. Bloody comfy but I may be inclined to agree with @wardee on the feedback issue. I feel the softness of the shoe encourages me to run heavier and I have to concentrate on running lighter but given my history I’m pleased with the outcome. I’d be interested in trying a slightly stiffer shoe but I’m not buying two pairs just yet (heathen I know!). Managing about 3 to 4 runs a week of about 4 miles for the last 4 weeks with a total of 60 miles so far. Still get twinges but I spend most evenings stretching so this helps a lot. Going to try for a longer run tomorrow if I can stop drinking tonight, but that remains to be seen! Thanks again for all the advice, it has helped me no end!

This weeks 8 minute milers was a very civilised run until 3 miles from home when someone attacked. Cue 3 miles at 6:30’s. Wonderful stuff!

I can but dream! Shins still twinging but managed 2 slow 5k’s this week. Bought some new shoes so going to give them a bash this week. Hopefully they’ll help along with all the stretching!
