I think you already have the right device and the simplest thing to do is get a powerbank and a top tube bag with a right-angle micro USB cable to make getting the connection in easier. A 5000mAh should cover it, but might be worth plumping for a 10000 to be extra certain if it stays on 100% backlight as people have noted.
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. I’ll get the powerbank and experiment over the coming weeks. Thanks all.
@jonba That toptube bag looks a good idea. I might just buy a power bank and plug the phone in and use Strava as a sat nav. Given what has been said about charging Garmins on the hoof would the phone be a better option?
I was 95kg last Christmas with not much motivation either. Only got out on MTB with mates now and again but was too unfit to enjoy it much. I started running in lockdown and quickly realised how quickly it can improve your fitness. I was always at the back on the mtb climbs now I leave them all standing! I think you started back running with too far a distance. Rein it in a bit and build up the distance. Running has vastly improved my mental health as well as my fitness. I genuinely can’t recommend it enough. Just start slow.
This challenge has done some irreparable damage to me! I went for a 100k cycle yesterday and this morning I ran a half marathon! A year ago at this time I would have been sat on the sofa eating and drinking too much! This isn’t a humble brag, I’m just bloody shocked at myself! I’m going to try and keep this going next year but will go for a 5/2 approach with 5 days of exercise and two days of Yoga or some other low impact type of thing.
Last year my 11yr old son gave my wife a hug. I saw him adjust his grip from holding a wrist to clasping his hands together. I had the sudden realisation that he was comparing our waist sizes. When I asked him if this was the case he looked rather sheepish but admitted that it was! I’ve been on a diet ever since 😂😳. Count me in. Aiming for 75kg this year.
My father in law has just been notified that he should self isolate but it turns out they were late in telling him, 8 days late so only has two more to go!
Yeah, cheers @munrobiker. Finished off today with a 70k road ride. Thought things were going to fizzle out but after a 6am visit to the supermarket I was given a few hours free time before cooking duties commence! To top it off I’ve managed to get to my target weight right on the last day. 15kg I’ve lost this year!! After having cancer last year and joining this challenge I’ve proved a lot to myself in recent times so thanks for posting this. I’ll be raising a glass to your friend this evening. See you all next year!
PS – I need to find me some Christmas Pudding ice cream!
After a week of starving myself and knocking my pan in on the turbo I’ve managed to creep under my target weight of 80kg. I weighed 79.8kg this morning (admittedly after a big bike ride but a wins a win!). A grand total of 15kg lost this year which I’m well chuffed about. The old mantra of “Eat less, Move more” certainly works. My target for next year is 75kg as my BMI means I’m still overweight!
Ended up doing my half marathon today instead of the last day as the Christmas timetable’s a bit hectic! Managed it in 1:52:17, knocking 7 minutes of my first attempt. Currently lying on the sofa and don’t think I’ll move again tonight, and I forgot to lube my nips which ended up bleeding! Won’t forget that in a hurry!
I’ve also entered the Frontier 300 and considering most of my riding is a lap around parts of the Tweed valley it’s a bit of a step up for me!! A mate emailed me that 7Stanes event which has me slightly interested. How the hell you could do that as a solo is beyond me! 150km off road with 290km in between!
Edit – anybody got any training tips for a novice endurance hopeful?
Not managed to get out much recently so mostly been jumping about the kitchen or on the turbo. Planning to go out with a bang on the last day by doing a half marathon.
I’ve crept back up again! Now at 83kg. No way I’ll make 80kg now! I’ll keep going in the new year as I want to shed another few kg. Target weight is 12 stone in old money, currently at 13.
I was working in a bar earlier today and the owner said “I’ll be lucky to make in a day what I usually make in an hour today”. Sad times for the pub trade!
Hovering at the 82.5kg. Two weeks to shift 2.5kg! Been this weight for a while now even with loads of exercise so doubt I’ll make the 80kg by Christmas but fingers crossed!!
