Get a TDi or earlier landrover… its ALL mechanical no electronics… if it dont work then a big hammer*/gaffa tape/welding rod or coathanger & WD40 will sort 99% of issues 😉

*or just make you feel better about the whole situation

Could be air in the system, check the seating of the filter seal.. other wee foible to check is the electrical supply to the stop solenoid on the injection pump if there is one – these are “fail to safe” they are normally easy to spot as there will be just a single lead running to it, due to the vibration on a diseasel the cable can be prone to chafing or breaking down internally. A quickie diagnosis for this is to run a lead from the battery +ve direct to the solenoid itself, crank & see if the engine fires, if it does fire REMEMBER to stop the engine you will have to disconect this temp lead — it’s also an evil trick to play on someone too… the look on their face as the engine fails to stop and they are running round the car with the keys in their hand is priceless.

Also check the engine earth… i have seen this cause MAJOR running issues on a TDi Landrover causing the stop solenoid to chatter in & out… that took 1/2 a bl@@dy day to find, grr

Oh god oh god.. I have laughed so much at this…

once had to wash a white long haired (as in persian style long) cat that had managed to dump 3/4 of the contents of a A series sump over himself. Don’t ask … basically servicing a 1275 Cooper S (yes had one once and pig sick I sold it….) unscrewed sump plug to point of removal, got distracted by mate coming into garage… cat/foreman supervising ops decided to arch ichy back on sump turns the sump plug the fatal 1/4 turn dumping the remainded over floor & cat

clean up involved me dressed in bike jacket (as in 1988 stylee big heavy motorbike leather)(for tis true I did doth have a Yamaha 350 YPVS 😀 ) fullface motorbike helmet (visor down) shemag wrapped round neck & tucked into bike jacket welding apron & welding gauntlets on (chrome leather)

chalky (for that twas his name) was actually not THAT bad but did have a “hidden tiger crouching dragon” moment and i did managed to launch him form the bathroom where I swear that he had those warp/hyperspace/d jump trails after him

Well, I’ve enjoyed reading this thread.

I always wear a helmet these days. Despite never owning one until my late 20s I’m now of the opinion that the day I don’t put it on will be the day I clobber myself. I’m a little bit OCD like that.

    Gotta agree here,
I can’t NOT get on a bike even witout a minimum of protection which for me is a DJ pot and gloves… if I’m going for a proper ride then it’s full face, and knee/shin armour. Call it OCD.

Had a mate who was riding back to Peebles from GT after sessioning the FR park, swapped his full face for a std helmet for the ride back, got 300yrds from his house dropped off a kerb and his wheel collapsed by the time the wheel fully disintegrated and he twigged what was happening he was 3/4 of the way across the road he was in a prefect position to launch his face into the opposite kerb as his forks dug in, cue smashed cheekbone, fractured jaw & nose and a LOT of bruising. He always said that IF he had kept his full face on he would not have suffered those injuries. OK fluke accident but I would far rather have a pot on than not and take my chances

I don’t care about being called a pussy for wearing all the protection I do, even for the most innocuous ride as you never know what is going to happen.

As for legistating helmet wear then for me if you are at a pukka trail center then it should be compulsory otherwise personal choice.

Only if the majority of fatties had a medical condition

They do…. their mouth is bigger than their @rsehole… 😛

over the last 3 years I have lost 4 stone, didn’t change my diet (though i am now naturally eating a lot less) simply exercised – basically got on my bike.

Biggest problem I have now is I can’t get clothes to fit me, my genetic heritage has bestowed me with a narrow waist (28″) and I have found it again 😀 10/15 years ago this wasn’t a problem, today I have to really hunt round the shops to find jeans and trousers to fit me. This to me is a real sign that the population is getting fatter, the fasion industry is catering to this trend.
