Does everything well, does nothing brilliantly.

    User error.

Possibly. But then you can’t possibly know one way or another, so why be such a ****.
He asked for thoughts on the ASR5c and at least I’ve owned one and ridden one in a variety of situations including the Alps and Spain. I was surprised not to like it more to be honest.

Rocket Rons are on all my 29ers all year round. Never found the need to change to anything else.
Would never have got away with them 26 stylee

Well I do have a couple of £5K bikes but also a steel framed one with CANTILEVER brakes so I guess that cancels them out.

I’ve got a kcnc on a Niner and a Czar, both my quick bikes.
What can I say. I’ve never noticed it one way or another.
    I guess that’s good!

    Thanks honeybadgerx for that.

I’d assumed it was the outcome of combustion that changed the risk factor of diesel rather than the fumes themselves being dangerous.

I’d prefer Fenwicks to diesel due to the fact that, as far as I know, it isn’t carcinogenic.

    Is it?

I know diesel exhaust fumes have clear links but I didn’t know that diesel as a liquid was. Could you post a link please

I use a mixture of petrol and four stroke oil (a little bit) in a chain cleaner because I always used this on motorbikes.
Might give diesel a go thinking about it.

Oludeniz is nice but I prefer to be up in the hills a bit. Try Montana Pines hotel. Fethieye is always full of (rude and arrogant) Russians. Its on an approved list or something.

Went to Mallorca for the first time this year and found it a very pleasant surprise (I think Ibiza and in fact all the Balearics are great if you avoid the chav spots) Try Es Moli hotel in Deia for something a bit special. Its not beach though. Puerto de Soller is on the coast and lovely.

Rode on the dunes and beach of Saunton sands north Devon on Saturday. Was a real scorcher so I decided not to wear gloves.
Ended up with sun burnt knuckles. Who’d a thought that was possible. Clearly gloves are always required!

I would also recommend the Burrator loop. Its no where near the tech fest or as exiting as some of the other routes in the South but I really think it shows off the high moor well.
We normally add the hidden valley and the widow maker to that basic route.
The widow maker is the bridleway on eviljoe’s map that lead down (up)to the reservoir where its typed “Ivybridge lane” on the way back to Princetown.
Plume of feathers in Princetown will do you a nice post ride luncheon.

Anyone suggesting wiggins should be at the tour actually watch the Dauphine today?!

    Of course not…Froome was riding!

Interesting that Richie Porte’s form still seems below his normal levels looking at his performance today at the Dauphine.
Wiggo for number 2 to Froome?

Thanks for your comments ollie51. I would agree with most of what you say, especially about high intensity rides burning fat. There is also the “after burn” effect where mitochondrial activity remains high following high intensity activity and therefore contributes to calories use.
I’ve bled hundreds of patients following an overnight fast and tested glucose and lipid levels. 12 hours post prandial is usually enough to reduce to a baseline level.
I doubt very much glycogen levels will fall to almost nothing following a 12 hour fast, but will need to check my science.

    Glyphon, if

Your body works on a first in, last out way
then my bowels have been working wrongly all my life.

I shudder to think how your guts work if you think the above is true.

If carbohydrate, in the form of glucose, is still circulating in the blood stream following a meal and before deposition in the liver and muscles as glycogen then it will be used before lipid stores. So he’s sort of right.

•The first law, also known as Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy can not be created or destroyed; it can only be redistributed or changed from one form to another.

•The second law of thermodynamics says that the entropy of any isolated system not in thermal equilibrium almost always increases.

•The third law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of a system approaches a constant value as the temperature approaches zero.

Presumably Plyphon was referring to the first law of Thermodynamics in that energy cannot be created nor destroyed but only converted into other forms of energy. I sort of understand what he meant, although the wait/weight gaff is unforgivable :-)

And what is Himalayan sea salt? There isn’t a sea near the Himalaya’s. Its at Maldon!

Got back from Deia only a week ago. Loved it!
Loads and loads of road bikes on the road through Deia going to Palma or coming from Soller. Must admit the road was much busier than I thought it would be with queues of cars (driven by tourists) behind the bikes.
As above, I would recommend talking to Andy at Tramantana tours. He was at Port Soller when I was there but there is a shop in Soller as well.
Routes around Cuber reservoir looked promising for off road

I love my Niner Air 9c

I always say its like riding a road bike hat copes with the rough. Can’t think of a better way of describing it!I think it may be due to the incredibly responsive way it rides.
With the Niner fork and set up as 1×10 mine weighs in at 15.5lbs. Thats lighter than my Ti triathlon bike!

My Turner Czar weighs 22.8lbs. With 100 mm Reverbs and no dropper post.
Apart from putting SIDs on it (which I wont) I seriously doubt I could get it any lighter. I have chucked the proverbial money bucket at it!

Drive chain is Next SL with 32T workscomponents ring,XTR clutch mech, Saint lever,XX 10-36 cassette

I use Rocket Rons front and back for year round racing and general riding. I ride Exmoor and Dartmoor quite a lot (rocky in places) with no issues with sidewalls. In 26 in mode I could never use Rons as a general tyre but in 29 er they seem fine.
My faster, racier mates swap the Ron off the back for a Ralph as a go to race combo

    Lovely bike KC.
I’ve had my Czar running for a couple of months now. Weight comes in at 22.8lbs, although I have chucked some money at it!
I went for a zero rise stem but still feel a bit low on steeper stuff. Thinking of moving the one spacer I have back under the stem.
I used R1 brakes in an effort to get the weight down and I’m not very happy with them. Have RX’s on my Niner and they’re fine but I wish I’d stuck with XTR on the Czar.
One thing I’m very happy with is the Saint front shifter after some advice on here. Brilliant, effortless gear changing.

I must admit I really like OF magazine as it covers so many other bits of outdoor sports that I’m interested in.
Can’t argue with your comment on the front cover though. Bit of a gaff there?

How about starting at Leigh-on-sea station (plenty of parking at weekend) ride thru the country park by going up to Hadleigh castle down on the gravel track and then pick up the all weather track thru the park towards south benfleet. Cross the railway line and come all the way back on the seawall to Leigh again. Nearly 100% off road and about 9 miles for the lad. Just before getting back to the car park you pass a golf driving range where you can get drinks/snacks etc or into old Leigh for a pint/cockles at the Billet/Peter Boat/Smack

Had a focus for ten years and carrying the bikes inside was never a problem but has the advantages of better security, better fuel consumption etc.

I’m using a RF SL with a works components 32T and XTR rear mech and XX1 11-36 cassette. Very light and lovely on the Czar.
If you don’t have a gear changer could I suggest the Saint. Slightly longer leavers makes it a much lighter change into the bigger cogs on the back.
