    hullo,
if this thread could be resurrected at least once a year to remind me that after 20+ years it's well worth keeping going with Mint then that would be great :)

i am apt to go all humble an stare at my shoes when people say they like the cartoon, but for people to get emotionally affected by it, well, that's the highest accolade you can give to any piece of work, thank you, and it means in many ways that my work here is done

some new artwork for The Book is down there (points) in an A3 envelope, i work on it when there's a gap in the jobs that pays the bills, one day it will appear, one day
actually i'll do some work on it later today, just because of this thread

oh, and Summer makes a fleeting appearance in next months episode

don't wear baggies, and not just for the reason that people will laugh at you :)

ride the bike that you're going to ride on the day enough so you're comfortable on it for the duration, and to also know what food and drink you're likely to need so you survive

and if you'd have asked i could have taken you round the sportive route for free on a day when the roads aren't full of weaving and wobbly Treks, in fact for the price of a cup of tea and some cake i still could :0

172.5 on the road bike, 175 on both cross bikes, had 172.5s on previous CXs, it doesn't make any noticable difference

just spent a weekend in a Formule 1, it was cheap, certainly functional, but perfectly manageable, i don't think they charged for the whacked out Algerian man wearing just a wet t-shirt who was wandering the halls and trying all the doors at 2am, so your knowledge of French swear-words could increase, which is always a bonus

i've been racing decidedly un-custom Kona Explosif and Unit 2-9 slidey-dropout frames for, oooh, a while now, not overly light in the scheme of things, but not heavy neither

i have also used them for 'Just Riding Around A Bit' as well, so they're quite versatile beasts

last i saw of Friend Wood (a few years back mind you) he had made a car out of wood, a quick google confirms it's quite infamous

    he has a beard

why do you want a 'cross bike to commute on, get a tourer with full guards and racks, ah, but you want to look cool, ignore me

the greatest saddle of all time has to be the Flite, totally changed the way saddles are designed, it's irrelevant if you find it comfortable or not

runners-up have to be the Brooks, the Rolls, the Turbo and the Concor for longevity, and the Spec. BG for making the most of a hokey bit of 'research' :)

and as of yesterday afternoon, still no.

a few drifts still and a mess of cars at the 'white bike' junction at the bottom, and some cars were having trouble getting up the short rise from the A27 junction roundabouts

the roads were clear-ish south of the bypass so park somewhere there and ride/walk up

i rode it on a CX the year it was very dry and bumpy (and more than a few other years as well on both a CX and MTB), it was so jarring that it rattled my front-mech off which has never happened before, the bumpy bits really weren't that bad, more of a fun challenge to be honest, the trick is just to go faster and skim along the tops, well, in theory, certainly not worth dragging a full-suss around 100k for

in again after missing last years due to lurgy

i've had a Goldtec on a variety of SSCXs for over two years and it's been dragged through the worst conditions imaginable and it's still running as smooth as the day i bought it, not once have i worried about the weight

but that doesn't answer your question does it? sorry

Dualit grinder + stovetop pot + bag of beans from local deli/coffee shop

arguably better coffee and cheaper in the long run because you're not tied to a specific make of coffee-pod, and you have a whole world of coffee beans to choose from

Merckx, who won the TdF a few times i think, said doing The Hour was the hardest thing he'd every done and he'd never try it again, Boardman completed The Hour three times.

just to add to the 'toughness' mix

to toe them in put a spanner over the body (over the 13mm bolt area is good) and bend them, gently

riding with lights that turn night to day is as stupid as riding off-road and then needing suspension to smooth out the bumps

go for the size bike you're used to for your style of riding, a SS is just the same as any other bike despite what anybody might say, it merely has one gear
