some steel flexes more than others

yeah, it’s a ‘low slung’ frame, that’s for sure :-)

didn’t pay much attention to the seat-tube TBH, i look at the top-tube length to fit, but a plus side to such a small frame is that all the weight is between the wheels which seems to work well on a 29er, keeping the bike less top-heavy and more chuckable between the legs

rode mine for the first time at the weekend

not a light steel frame, but the swift and nimble ride makes up for it

frameset (don’t know if that includes the fork) is £930.00

yeah, it’s more to do with your wife’s bike being smaller and lighter

Traffic practically ground to a halt near Ballyrobert as drivers strained to get a glimpse of the singer and her cavalcade.

i’ve never heard it being called that before

i’ve used both and as mentioned there’s really not much difference in use although the TRPs might be a little bit more powerful
the Kores are a little bit easier to adjust and they’re cheaper, but the TRPs have old-skool ‘cross cool

DBikes had this at Eurobike, where the brake cable bolts directly into a MTB hydro lever, if you want that ‘Made In A Shed’ look

TRP Parabox and the new Hope adapter much neater solutions

3T do an alloy bar that ‘rises’ from the bottom but is flat along the top, and Crank Bros do a range of bars which are only just risers

or some TRP Straddle Cable Adjusters

    Jagwire also do some

i ride a lovely steel Enigma, sometimes i race it with my fellow bottom-feeding results landfill amateurs, and it’s fine for both, a set of decent stiff light ‘race’ wheels makes an enormous difference though.

however i’m playing on a carbon Cannondale Super Six at the moment, it’s over three pounds lighter, it’s stiffer, tracks corners significantly better and responds to a punch on the pedals in a way that the steel Enigma, whilst beautiful, doesn’t.

if i was a little more serious about racing i’d buy the Cannondale in a heartbeat, but the Enigma makes me smile every time i ride it

CX bikes had road stems on them for about 100 years before MTBs were invented, you’ll be fine :-)

mine did that (it took a couple of years to get round to it though), a little square of electrical-tape on the mount to push the computer up and tighter into the mount sorted it

set up and also rider weight

i’ve had this for about 4 years, i it may not be the lightest, stiffest, fastest bike on the block but it still makes me smile every time i take it out

the people at Enigma are real nice to deal with when it comes to having a frame made

just for balance, i had an CX Easton fork and never got judder

i have 2 Enigma frames :-) (steel road and steel SSCX) i love them both

when they’re weren’t many carbon ‘cross forks around they were a viable option but now there are plenty of carbon forks that are cheaper, with more tyre/mud clearance and with less potential for brake judder

if i wanted to race i wouldn’t get steel, for bang for your buck you can’t go far wrong with them Kinesii, although the Specialized Crux is good for a grand

it’s a bit late to do anything now really as any changes have as much chance of making things worse as better

use whatever you found the most comfortable and then after sunday go and see someone that knows what they’re talking about and get your bike fitted to you

put it in the washing machine, inside a pillow-case to stop the straps and stuff clanking about

i’m usually a medium, and medium seems to fit me too, although the newer t-shirts seem to be less “race fit” than the older one i have

changing gear on a singlespeed mid-race? how odd, would not just taking a geared bike be simpler? :-)

    32:18 on a 29er, same as always

some people like their ‘cross bike the same size as their road bike, some like to go a little smaller, i like my ‘cross bike to have a 10mm shorter top-tube than my road bike and a slightly shorter stem, but that’s just me

i should warn you the handling can get a bit noodly, especially in the rain, and the paint can just run off

Pedals etc sure – but frames?

certainly TT frames recently when their sponsor didn’t have a suitable/suitably good frame, less common nowadays now everyone has The Fastest Bike in their line-up, but more commonly wheels, lots of de-stickered wheels out there

It’s more about what makes sense commercially – what the sponsors are pushing that year.

i’m not 100% certain about that, there are plenty of examples still of Pros choosing non-sponsored kit over what they’re supposed to be using if they think it makes them faster
