they’re not a poor design, they’re probably designed that way to be as light as possible for the given material/price

what you’re saying is they don’t meet your handlebar aesthetic, which is a completely different thing

i’m still having a bit of the vapours over the spoke protector :-)

you won’t fit all that in a Rapha case

put the quick links and patches in your case, elastic band the tube and CO2 together, share them and the multi-tool out between pockets so it’s not all one heavy lump

VeloCulture do a nice thing, they call it a purse, which might be awkward for some

i’ve used a reinforced pencil case in the past, does the same thing, considerably cheaper, you can get the zip to match your jersey/bike/socks

    define ‘better’?
    they’re different

i don’t get on with them at all, as above they put the brake-lever at an odd angle, for me, making them uncomfortable on the hoods and awkward to change gear with
i don’t find the flared drop offers any more comfort or a noticeable amount more control, and being in the drops trying to cheat a headwind is a futile experience

    other people love ’em though

would that be the article that wasn’t pro 650B at all but was about how peer reviews were more powerful than magazine reviews, using 650B as an example? :-)

i might have the magazine somewhere, give me a minute

Cannondale used to do road and CX bikes with Headshoks

probably a big market for that kind of thing now

nothing you do now will make much difference
Don’t say things like that. I’m doing the fred whitton in 9 weeks….

find a mate that rides 2-3mph slower than you do ;-)

nothing you do now will make much difference

tell your mate to slow down a bit and ride with you, if he’s a mate he’ll do this, if he wants to keep to his pace to get a Fast Bronze time then leave him to it

i detest the feel and shifting ability of SRAM, i love Campag but the increasing home-mechanic-unfriendliness of their parts puts me off, so Shimano for me every time YMMV

Yeah, but it’s an actual thing that people do. Cyclists waving at cyclists? I’m not saying it’s a bad idea or anything, it’s just that I’ve never seen it happen.

i think bikerbruce just waved at you

i just use a standard road compact bar on the CX, a wider bar will give you the tiniest bit more control when tackling tricky off-road stuff

as you’ve just bought the bike and are used to 750s then you’ll need some time just to get used to it, do that before you make any changes

it may be harder to “get going” but that’s not what the descending rider’s doing, he’s getting back up to his original speed which is often more effort and more timeconsuming than restarting when climbing

    really?

… It’s still easier and less disruptive and quicker for the person going up to yield.

that may be be the case, but it is harder for them to get going again, which you have left out of your picture

So, other than just now up there ^ where is it written uphill has RoW?

it’s in the IMBA Rules of the Trail..

    4. Yield Appropriately: Do your utmost to let your fellow trail users know you’re coming — a friendly greeting or bell ring are good methods. Try to anticipate other trail users as you ride around corners. Bicyclists should yield to other non-motorized trail users, unless the trail is clearly signed for bike-only travel. Bicyclists traveling downhill should yield to ones headed uphill, unless the trail is clearly signed for one-way or downhill-only traffic. In general, strive to make each pass a safe and courteous one.

    and general common sense

Genesis day one. Or cdf. Kona are the Starbucks of the cx world.

they seem to do okay under the 2x European & 9x British cyclo-cross champion

there are better value for money CX bikes than Kona, but if you have to have one, what are you going to be doing on it?

the Hopes are powerful, but as you’ve experienced modulation from the hoods can be poor, where it can be very hard to pull the lever, a smooth cable run from the lever to the unit helps here

the amount of times i’ve leant my Zefal HPX pump to someone that’s quoted The Rules earlier in the ride and now needs something to get air in their tyre in less than 20 minutes

so, as above, pump on frame, if your frame will let you do that, some stuff in a saddle-bag, other stuff in pockets, it’s worked for most everyone else for years
