What sort of speed were they doing around a corner ?

i know that bit of road, the road the Fiat comes from curves round to the right directly on the junction so you can head into that side-road pretty much straight on, and there’s a nice little left hander just before that’s fun to take at speed in a nippy little car, or so everyone thinks

yes, you will notice a very positive difference

    yup, Shimano M525/M515 compatible

the supplied pads are rather soft, from the TRP website – “Compound works well in dry conditions but may wear quickly in wet/muddy conditions”

i’d just go for a ride, it’s too easy to get carried away in a race situation

it depends who you ride with, whether it’s a casual or serious club run, how fit you are in comparison and again, who you ride with

shame they didn’t get outraged a year ago when the picture first appeared, the ‘i’ve only just seen this and am appalled’ aspect of it kind of takes the edge off

still, an interesting example of how social media works and the positive aspects it can have

on the hard-packed chalky bits you’ll be fine (watch out for the slippy green bits though) but anywhere with grass is quite waterlogged, making riding along the tops harder than the climbs
and some bits will be deep churned mud

exactly, try the 16 and if that doesn’t work for you, try something else like the 18 or the 20 you have, or buy something else
also don’t forget to figure in raging headwinds

a long long long time ago i had a swearing/cutting up battle with a Post Office van driver around the one-way system in Norwich, can’t remember how it started but it went on for quite a while, aided by the fact it was a van with a sliding driver’s door left open so insults were free and easy to exchange

the driver took the opportunity of me slowing down a bit to turn right to where i needed to get to by jumping out of his van (again, sliding door helping matters here) haul me off my bike and before i know it have me by the neck up against the wall, feet off the ground

i remembering thinking that things hadn’t gone well

there was more shouting but luckily the rapidly forming crowd saw him cease his actions and get back into his van, whilst i got the names of willing crowd members as witnesses

a strongly worded letter to the Post Office followed and then a knock on the door some weeks later by the van driver asking for me to tell his employees that he didn’t need to lose his job over his actions, i declined his request being young and full of hate and somehow my house wasn’t fire-bombed or have any dog turds posted through the letterbox

i’ve had plenty others, but that’s prob the best

assuming it’s an MTB a normal MTB rear hub with a freehub and SS kit will be easier to maintain than a screw-on freehweel, unless you spend ££ on something like a White Industries freewheel

there’s not a lot going on in Oudenaarde, done the RvV and then stayed to watch the race a few times and always stayed in Ghent which is a really very nice place to be

as above, there looks to be nothing out of the ordinary with the bars and lever set up, i’d even say it’s perfect :-)

looking at the bike your set up does look a little long and high, so reaching the levers in the drops should be no problem, and from your description it seems like you need to have more upper body mobility and bend your elbows more, as mentioned above

your road shoes will probably have a three-hole road cleat mount and the two-hole MTB cleats won’t fit

I would think so.. I’ve never raced but a flat or a snapped chain would be game over anyway so why bother carrying anything other than a water bottle?

you can at least finish the race, which is important to some, or it’s a long walk home

spare tyre for a XC race? blimey :-)

similar to above, bottle, cage-mounted mini-pump, spare tube (running tubeless) and multi-tool in back pocket, qwiklink

can’t get used to DoubleTap and the CLUNK of a SRAM front shift into the small ring makes me wince every time

if you need some money then selling it will get you some money

will you get as much money as you think you might because it’s a limited edition anniversary model, no
a limited edition anniversary model with chainstay damage and flaking paint, even less so

i have a Rotring propelling pencil i was given (does sums) over 30 years ago, i use it most every day, you can change the softness of lead to go from techy to arty

it’s as boring as a pen or pencil, but what comes out of it doesn’t have to be

the ‘Joseph Joseph’ Garlic Rocker is surprisingly satisfying, you have to get the stainless one though, for niceness

still use the flat of a knife most of the time

what most everyone else said, its not an issue, ride the gear you have

it’s only really a problem when the geared group can’t keep up with you

i’d have a look around, the Orange RX9 is expensive for what it is, and what it is isn’t amazing, even at discount

    depends

i’d say a 58 – 60 is in the right ball-park but as different manufacturers size their bikes differently both in seat-tube and top-tube lengths it’s impossible to say

you’re going to have to sit on a few really, preferably with someone that knows about CX bikes, but i would say that i’ve observed it’s really common for MTBers to buy their first CX bike too small because they like the lots-of-seatpin thing and not so much reach to the bars

i have the smaller Lezyne saddle-bag that seems to do ok for that kind of thing

but that’s on my CX bike, you’d have to check to see if it fits a gravel bike

echoing what other people have said above, you need to do more ‘recovery’ rides

if you keep smashing yourself into the ground for a month or 2 and then it all vanishes overnight then you’re keeping doing something wrong, that needs to change if you want that to change

Also the comments about juddery feedback from the brakes usually come from journalists who can’t even wrench their own bikes so take the review with a pinch of salt.

    but not always :-)

i’d read the whole review rather than just concentrate on this one single aspect of the bike, especially as it’s not relevant if you’re running discs

that current Mustang isn’t a bad bike per-say, and the TRP HY-RDs are a highlight, but you might find the one-by a bit restricting and mega-range cassette a bit gappy between the teeth if you’re just using it for commuting

£1000 is a very competitive price point so it’s worth having a good look around

more importantly, why have they photographed their bikes upside-down?

i had a go on a Norco Threshold, lovely bike, Norco have always been a bit of a ‘sleeper’ brand over here but they make some great machines
depends what you want to do on it, the Norco felt like you could spend all day on it exploring horizons, that’s not to say you couldn’t race on it though, but the Focus is more directed towards being fast on a Sunday
there’s also the Cannondale SuperX :-)

there might be issues fitting an MTB chainset to a road bike, chainline, BB axle length, crank clearance, but there are many variables, it’s been bodged before though
