It’s not bad weather to be planting trees, wet and mildish. Just remember to keep it watered through the spring and summer. And keep down any grass or weeds around it by using mulch. When you’ve had enough of it, you can ask on here again on how best to be rid of it

I’ve found you can have problems with ‘chipped cartridges in that the printer won’t recognise them. We are currently using Tesco own brand which have been fine.

And what’s with new cars that have their fog lights come on when turning corners. Distracting and pointless!!

My brother had one of those. It escaped once and couldn’t be found. My girlfriend (now wife) stopped that night. I decided to look for it in the morning and found it under the bed we’d been sleeping in.

Didn’t have one slip or slide at Sherwood Pines yesterday until I looped round on some fireroad, and had a massive adrenalin rush when my back wheel tried to overtake the front. Luckily with cat-like reactions, I managed to save it. 8O

Hey don’t diss our Nottinghamshire fells. I do agree you have to make your own gravity though – by pedaling like a man possessed. Still it’s never far back to the top.

Thought that was probably the case. I have seen plenty of stranded beginners on the bridge, including a girl on a centre parcs hybrid dressed in flip flops and not much else. I’m all for people having a go, but as Pines is so accessible I guess they have to err on the side of caution. Does anyone know when it should be finished?

You see Karin, your 4×4 has its own gravity and people have no option as their car is pulled towards yours.

Spesh own brand on first Rigid, swapped for WTB which was comfy. Luckily another WTB came with the full suss and never had a problem, but it’s now been replaced with a Spoon which just gets on with the job. I thought all saddles were much of a muchness until I inherited a road bike (don’t worry- nobody actually died) with a Raleigh OEM jobbie on, and after even short rides ended up with no feeling in the old chap. Rubbing your groin dressed in head to toe lycra could possibly cause arrest, so it was swapped with a Spesh Toupe which is firm but comfy when you have a few miles under your backside.

We have ‘rights of way’ in England and Wales and it would be very hard for any ramblers or other protesters to take these away. The voluntary ban on Snowdon is just that and would take years in the courts if they tried to make it official, benefiting bloodsucking lawyers and solicitors only. I imagine most people accept the status quo. Cycling isn’t going to go away in this country, but its main problem may be that most cyclists would rather be doing than talking, hence letting those who prefer to talk make all the decisions. I don’t think we need to worry though unless they take away our right to vote. Beware the wrath of a patient man (woman/cyclist) would be my sentiment.

No offence meant there ashley. Just a sarcastic way of giving an answer, I’ve used this forum for far too long. Hot little molten bits of metal can bounce all over the (work)shop when welding, probably a good lesson to anyone with delicate ‘plastic’ components when having welding work done.

I have a Sherwood Pines season pass, the young lad at Dalby said he thought it WAS a Dalby one. And when I was still offering him money he refused and waved me through. Good lad. Seriously though, as I’m obviously not at Sherwood that day, why do I need to pay again. A bit of a discount would make sense to me. This would be beneficial to all centres and their local economies as a reciprocal arrangement I would have thought.

Because your mates won’t like the way you climb faster and go for longer. There’s something I find in road riding that makes you keep the pressure on the pedals, probably the instant speed reward, that translates into better athletic performance on the trails.

They can dig holes quicker than a man with a spade apparently, so if you could tame and train one, they’d be great for trail building in the dark.

So after stopping people using the forests, most of which that we ride through at trail centres have little or no ash, are we then going to stop the wind blowing and the birds flying? Once the very tiny spores have landed on the ground and been mixed with mud on boots or bike tyres, I think it unlikely they will infect other trees. I’m afraid this will spread, and nature will take its course. This will not stop those with a little bit of power ignoring common sense advice though This country will cope without ash trees. It will not cope with the countryside being shut down AND no ash trees.

If you dont want to use chemicals and can’t get the stump out, try and remove the bark as low as possible as this is where new growth starts from.

You might still be able to get something called Deep Root or Root Out. New rules seem to ban decent effective chemicals all the time. If not a bit of Round-up will do. What type of tree was it anyway? Just keeping it in the dark under wood chip or an old blanket would suffice. Nothing will make it rot quicker though, especially engine oil, which we have had to inform several costomers that it will do a great job of preserving it.

I did the 40 miles and they did seem to find as many hills as possible. My endomondo says around 3000′ of climbing but I finished 24 feet lower than I started so not perfectly accurate. Just looked at the results and I came in 17th out of 200, not that it’s a race. But not bad for my first sportive.

Wood will split better wet because the sap (which is basically water) can’t compress, so all the axe forces go into splitting forces. Logs that split dry would’ve been easier wet. Echoing other posts start round the edge and try and hit the log on the side nearest you. A word of warning though, if someone gave these logs away they may be complete bar stewards to split.

Steel doesn’t need to melt before it loses its strength, it’s an easy enough experiment to do if you’re willing to accept the result.
