“worked as a prostitute” is an attempt to make it sound like a career choice, or at least … probably has its roots in the good old Political Correctness asylum…

Or it’s just another case of someone using more words than is necessary to make them sound like they’ve got something worth saying – perhaps a journo trying to hit a word limit or fill the column space.

Why am I spending money on things I dont need?

The entire global economy is built on people buying stuff they don’t need. Your house will be full of stuff you don’t actually ‘need’.

Looks like a good race track. It’s not a trail centre.

    Yes. Very true. Totally correct.

    But.

We are British! We are culturally conditioned, and have an obligation, to complain about everything! (why do you think the Daily Mail has so many readers?)

    😉

But as we know we arent allowed to poke fun at anyone or anything nowadays as there are just far too many do gooders in the world.

Whether we think it was harmless OTT ‘fun’ or not, STW can’t be seen to be tolerating ‘this sort of thing’ in the public domain …

LEAN originated and was perfected in a manufacturing envt (Toyota I think?).

The IT company I work for have applied LEAN across our department and very quickly learnt to adapt it to suit the different envt (i.e. not manufacturing).

There have been significant benefits, but it pays to apply some initiative and not just blindly follow the LEAN process in every detail as some of it may not add value.

    29th March?

    Meh. Only 3 days ago.

“Sell by” is different to “Use by”, so a few days is irrelevant if it’s been stored correctly.

I never pay much attention to “Use by”/”Sell by”/”Best before” dates – they’re all set by paranoid hypochondriacs anyway.

If it looks and smells ok, it probably is ok.

    🙂

some people are just predisposed to be miserable and complain about everything British

    Fixed.

I hope the complaints are genuine – we need massive idiots like these to entertain the rest of us 😀

“London is still the Greatest City on Earth though.”

Depends on what criteria this is based.
Using my personal criteria, London is the ar$e-hole of Britain.

With the BBC moves there’ll be a few more sops around up here, with their weird accents and general southern-softy-ness…

From experience, it took me 2 hours to get up the Llanberis track. It’s pretty much exactly 4.5 miles. I think the path has been improved since I rode it, so it may be easier getting up.

Not been down the Ranger/Telegraph route, although looking at it I would allow 2 hours but expect it to take 1.5.

having had one of each I’d say they’re both nice, just in different ways

We’re not saying boys are nicer, just better…

Me and my wife are due a boy in 8 weeks. Our first together.

I remember going for the 20-week scan and being told ‘It’s a boy!’

After the initial excitement I couldn’t help thinking, “Well, Yes. It was always going to be that, or a girl. Wasn’t it. Dur.”

Can’t wait for the birth. 2 weeks paid holiday! … oops, did I say that out loud?

We think we’re ready. But you’re never really ready for something as life-changing.

    😀

almost fool myself into thinking that the swerving gives you a little bit of acceleration

    Technically, it does!

Acceleration is a vector quantity, therefore by changing direction you are decelerating in one direction whilst accelerating in another.

Even if your velocity stays the same, you are still accelerating.

If you ride Cannock and Llandegla on a hardtail you probably won’t come away wishing you’d had full-sus.

If you ride Cannock and Llandegla on a full-sus you probably won’t come away wishing you’d had a hardtail.

You don’t “need” full-sus at either of these centres.

Some bits may be more fun with suspension.
Some bits may be more fun on a hardtail.

See what mood takes you on the morning you’re heading out… then just go ride your bike & have fun.

If I didn’t spend all day at work gawping at a computer screen I might be more inclined to take an interest in FB, but the last thing I want to do of an evening is spend even more time in front of any kind of computer…

My wife uses FB almost obsessively, but her family are all back home in Brazil so it keeps her in touch.

I’m surpised you felt much difference going from 70 to 65.

    Anyhow.

    I recently went from a 70 to a 50 mm stem.

If you go for 55mm this will mean the bike will feel shorter.

You’ll need to adopt a slightly different position to get weight over the front for climbing.

Conversely, going downhill may feel more stable.

The steering will feel quicker and more twitchy, which takes a bit of getting used to – there are pros and cons to this… depends on personal preference

The only way you’re going to know if a shorter stem is a good idea is to suck it and see.

BookMyFace is fine as an interwebs toy until people start thinking it serves a useful function or is in some way important.

It’s the current fad in a long line of fads.

At some point it’ll be superceded by something different but equally pointless.

Hope Mono Mini’s should are perfectly good brakes when working & setup correctly.

Your description sounds like contamination on the pads and disc.

I’d suggest cleaning the discs with hot soapy water, replace the pads, & re-try.

And if they’ve just been bled, double-check to make absolutely sure all the air’s flushed out of the system.

Using Diadora road shoes and they aren’t that comfy. What do other people use on commute, road or mtb shoes? (spds)

Are your Diadora’s the same as you wear on your Tuesday evening ride? (If not, why not just wear the same ones).

I wear my Specialized MTB shoes (SPDs) to commute. Perfectly comfortable for me.

Commute on my MTB with semi-click tyres. 12 miles each way if I go the most direct route (although I often extend it).

Takes me about 35-45 minutes. Fairly flat with a few short sharp hills. On average it’s downhill to get to work & uphill to get home.

Food-wise… Mug of strong black coffee & a banana when I wake up, bowl of muesli when I get to work, couple of snacks plus lunch during the day. Other than a sensible balanced diet I’m not convinced it’s necessary to be eating much more for a commute of less than an hour each way, but you’ll know if you’re feeling hungry or lacking energy.

For the past month I’ve been trying to commute 5 days a week – start feeling tired by Thursday, but not so much to defer to the car…

Having said that the weather for the past 4 or 5 weeks has been dry and fairly calm… the real test of my commitment is when it gets wet and/or windy 🙂

It looks like someone with a strange idea of how to spec a Demo 8 frame and who is extremely naive with creating eBay listings.

I’d say it could be a bit of a bargain if you’re after a DH frame – just take off those forks & sell them on.

I’m currently 9th in the MTQ Spring series with 2385 points after three rounds, having visited 50 CPs in total and scoring an average of 795 points per event.
I scored 375 points on Sunday by visiting 16 of the 27 CPs, valued between 10 and 50 points each, less a deduction of 2 points as a time penalty for arriving back 2 minutes late, for a total of 373 points.
I believe the winner’s score was 440, so as 373 is 84.8% of 440, that means I will have scored 848 league points

I didn’t understand anything this man just said 😕

    Was that the shipping forecast?

If the liner’s not suitable then return it for a refund.
It’s not CRC’s fault that it’s incompatible with the helmet shell.

Although their advice wasn’t entirely helpful – I’d have expected them to say return it for a refund and/or suggest what product is compatible…

Perhaps the liner you got sent was a duff that somehow got through quality control at the THE factory?

Where does that put mountain biking then?

I’m sure why wife thinks I’m a bit simple: I spend hours riding to nowhere in particular for no actual purpose, then just ride home again.

It’s for exactly the same reasons I think it is worthwhile.

Everyone knows Rugby is the best game.

It’s good because it’s complicated and strategic without losing any thrill and excitement

… and the players don’t keep falling down for no obvious reason every time another player runs past vaguely close

they could call the points 1,2,3, instead they use 15,30,45

Just out of interest, anyone know the reason why?
Or was the inventor of tennising just deliberately being an obtuse smart-arse?

Then there’s athletics – even simpler shirley?

Running in circles faster than other people running round the same circle.

Throwing something further than somebody else threw the same thing.

Jumping over higher stuff than something someone else can jump over.

When a sign flashes up ’30’ outlined in a red circle (i.e. not unlike an actual road sign) then it’s just a reminder of what the speed limit is, not how fast you’re going…

Horsey-ists don’t pay road tax either!

And why aren’t horse riders leagally obliged to wear a helmet?!

Plus horsists should all be registered and insured!

And take some form of test!

And stop riding on the pavement!

And why do they all RLJ?!

There, that’s all the usual cycling forum aspersions cast.
Feels good to get that lot off my chest.

I’d go for the honest approach and either get it repaired or at least inform the garage when you discuss PXing it.

You wouldn’t want to be ripped off by somebody selling you a car with a known problem without at least being made aware of it, so just because they’re a ‘business’ doesn’t make it acceptable to pull the wool over their eyes.

The 60’s and 70’s were indeed tragic, and regularly horrific decades in terms of driver deaths.

The thing I liked most about the racing back then was that you could actually see the drivers faces, see how hard they were working to drive the cars, and the drivers had real personalities.

Modern racing may be a lot safer, but with the drivers cocooned in their cars such that they are almost impossible to see, with relatively barely any emotion being shown when they do appear, the cars may as well be radio-controlled.

Their abilities and bravery are impressive, but I prefer Motorcycle racing simply because I can see the drivers properly. There’s a much more human element, rather than watching a 4-wheeled computer…
