Sadly , he is just a bit of an internet troll these days.

He can certainly ride a bike, but after a very lacklustre race career with all sponsors dropping him , he just seemed to grab any deal going to keep the wolf from the door and not get a real job.

See his click bait videos and Onlyfans sponsors.

Always comes across as a bit of a bitter diva.

Is this not just a rehash of the old Patagonia advertisement “Don’t buy this coat”

They sold loads of those coats they told people not to buy.

The V3 Alu is a great frame, buy you need to budget in for a decent shock. They only ship Alu frames with basic shocks.

The V2 was a great bike, but the V3 is a big upgrade.

The running costs, tyre clearance and fragility of the frames should be enough to have you looking elsewhere. I had the chance to buy an SB150 at trade but still wasn’t convinced.

I have a Checkpoint SL6 , it’s mainly used for a 20 mile commute but also long road rides.
I absolutely love it. It will probably get some 32mm slicks for the summer.

Only a brief look at the Madison reps personal pair, they certainly look exceptionally high build quality.

The new Goodyear tyres are £99.99 each at retail.

I always find it mad that people will skill and save on tyres. Properly good tyres are worth their weight in gold.

    Tom,

I rode a Murmur the other week and I would instantly have swapped my SC Hightower for it in a heartbeat. It looked beautiful and felt so, so quick.

And I adore my Hightower. Hands down the best bike I have had.

Triple Crown enduro forks seem like they could really take off. On a 170mm 29r?

    jmatlock

I would probably go for a really nice Starling Murmur; Ideally a shorter travel one. Maybe a 130mm 29r from Starling.

Or go the complete other way and have a Canyon Spectral On E-Bike.

    A good fork.

Previously I have had X-Fusion, Reba, Yari level forks and probably been blissfully ignorant.

My new bike has Performance Elite Fox 36 and it’s amazing how much better they work. Night and day better.

It’s only his little bike for jibbing around on, I got to see it on Monday. It was cool.

I heard a rumour that the Athertons would be riding for Merida but using a rebranded Specialized Demo frame.

I run a little LBS and we built an Evil Offering for a customer a week or so ago. It was a beautiful bit of kit! Well sized, super easy build, really well finished and rode beautifully. We all have high end bikes but we all also looked on the website at the frames immediately! I would love one

I actually don’t work ‘for’ Sick. I do a lot of freelance stuff for them. So anything I say isn’t me speaking on behalf of them. I’m not an employee. They have always paid my invoices on time, I know of well over 100 customers who are currently riding a Sick bike. And happy with their purchase. It’s a company in its infancy that has made a lot of mistakes and grown quicker than it expected.

Like any industry early adopters have had a rough time. Mega long lead times and often a lack of answers and updates. A lot of that is a resource thing.

The three directors may be divisive characters but everyone involved gives a shit about making it work; we have had countless 2/3am WhatsApp and phone conversations about stuff.

The customer service inbox gets probably between 50 and 100 emails a day. So the response times are no where near where they would like it to be.

I don’t think they have ever claimed that their customer service is good, only that’s it’s improving.

The bikes ride well, that’s the hardest part to get right. Many long standing bike companies haven’t cracked that yet.

I’m sure all the other stuff will follow along.

But you speak with such conviction about how it’s such a poorly run business. And how they don’t sell any frames. I assumed you had actual numbers and facts to back it up.

    Tom,

May I ask how you know how many units Sick ship per month? Frame wise?

Seems like you know a huge amount about their profit and loss account.

More of the absolute nonsense spouted on this forum by Geex. It’s cringeworthy to read. I prey to god you don’t work in the industry , as your genuinely giving terrible advice.

You would always set the bar and stem for a comfortable and efficient seated position assuming we are not talking DH/trials bikes.

A few observations as a parent of 2

Ignore any and every post that begins ‘I am not a parent’

Ignore the STW hardmen saying they would ‘knock him out’ that’s insane and typical of this place

Kids need calm and consistency and love, nothing else. I grew up in a house that was full of shouting, threats of suicide from my mum. Multiple hidings and even being told off for making a mess after my brother stabbbed me.

All of my sisters went on to be in relationships with men who abused them. And my brother ended up in psychiatric care.

The cause of this was that there was never any peace, quiet, calm, quiet conversations or love. Rules changed every day without notice. And stuff that would be let go one day would catch you a hiding the next.

As a parent , the amount you influence what sort of person your children turn into can never be underestimated.

Be the type of parent you needed as a kid

Hands down, Stu has properly gone up in my estimations here.  As a very petty man myself I can see the humour in trolling when it’s done well. And this is A grade roasting.

Every, single time people take the bait he lays out and it’s proper comedy genius.

SO many people on here act all serious and are disillusioned into thinking they actually know anything about…..

    the bike trade

    The design process

    suspension fundamentals

    geo fundamentals

    its cringy.

Much nicer than the Sworks 6 they replaced and maybe a 3rd if the price

Stu, you’re proper good at trolling. Genuinely makes me laugh. Keep it up.

As a LBS manager, it’s probabky an hours workshop time.

And people letting us look after their mechanicals helps pay the rent and bills, so we are always grateful people bring their bikes to us.

Its not a rocket science job but as people have said, sometimes it’s nice to let someone else do the fiddly bits while you make better use of your time.

I had a Friston in a 54 and it was biblically heavy. Like 12kg, no reason for a rigid drop bar bike to be that heavy.

I now have a Trek Checkpoint and it’s better in every way.

There are mega deals to be had when speaking to a good dealer.

Certainly this time of year. If anyone is in the market for a new SC, please feel free to drop me a PM.

Would love to look after fellow STWers
