I set up a netgear readynas which supports squeezebox server.
It’s a faff tbh, I mainly just turn in the lap top when I want to play off the library.
The main reason is it takes ages to boot up, and I don’t like keeping it on all the time.
I would imagine a modern NAS will be better.

If we are talking food, The Nut Tree is great, but I prefer The Mole Inn in ‘Toot Balden’
yes that is a village name, not an Elizabethan insult.

    Okay, google this lot, Evening:
Rose and Crown on North Parade
Walk to Eagle and Child, ancient and famous.
Back out toward little Clarendon St, Duke of Cambridge
Then down st to Raouls (I think), then walk away from town up toward Jericho.
    Loads good pubs and food.
    Day:
Get a taxi to the Trout, Wolvercote if it’s not too busy, have a drink, if it is move on.
Walk along river (port meadow) you’ll pass the Perch, then cross river into Jericho, walk towards town.
    The town centre is shyte
There are one or two great little pubs but that’s it.

1 part decent olive oil, 3 parts white wine vinegar, small blob mustard, little bit fresh garlic. Salt and pepper, tiny bit cayenne.

Right, finally, the reason for the problem.
Got crank washers from ‘Uk bike store’ (half the price of CRC) arrived next day.
Still felt ropey. Took BB out this evening, the middle bit, the spacer, is crushed slightly, because there were not enough washers on it. The washers needed are clearly written on a sticker on the spacer.
So the whole BB is too narrow by 5mm. Which is why I couldn’t reinstall the cranks. They must have been wrong from the start.
Because the spacer is crushed, it was rubbing on the crank.
Any hoo, new xtr £28 from uk bike store, only £5 more than rose cos no p and p.

    Andy, sure.
    What’s your email?
I’ll send them, if they’re any good, send me a fiver, or whatever.
The spacer is shagged. The wrong number of washers meant it is crushed a bit. Which is why it was playing up.

XTR on order from uk bike store (£5 more than the Germans since no p and p)

Ok, definitive answer, I am missing spacers.
Taken it apart again and I can see that there are marks showing how far up the splines the crank arm is.
It goes as far as it can, as they taper at the end,
And the ones on the crank are square at the end.
I don’t think I dropped the spacers. The area was dirty so the shiney bit of exposed crank spindle was not obvious, as it is now.
Went to bike shop, not got any spacers but I’m sure I’ll find
    Some somewhere.

Thanks for all your help with this guys.

    I don’t think I dropped any spacers.
I don’t have instructions, it was already on the bike.
It still has splines showing at the bolt end so surely has that amount to go.
It’s a race face xc ride.
I’m going to try again now.

I’m using a long padded hex key, I could use a pipe to lengthen.
Not sure what a ‘self extracting bolt’ is, the thing I am tightening is the hex bolt that was in the crank originally.
The one which i thought was for fine adjustment. That’s a laugh.
I have got a long handled torque wrench, if I can find a bit to fit it, that should do quite well.

I have cleaned and greased the splines, but I’ll check it again, in case it’s not lined up.
I was worried I would strip the thread, but have given it a lot of welly.
I might take the pedals off, lie it on the floor and get my lump hammer out.
I always get myself into these scrapes. It looked so easy on tinternet,
Would a big G clamp work?

    It’s a RF BB.
I don’t remember taking any spacers off, but I think this is the problem.
    Shall I just buy some?
When I look in the bolt side, it does look like there is room to push together, there are still 4-5 mm of splines showing but surely it shouldn’t be that difficult.

If i can’t even get the crank back together, I dont think there’s much hope in me doing a BB rebuild. Replacement is as good as it gets I think.

Cheers Andy. I got as far as removing the cranks. The bearings seem smooth. Now struggling to get cranks back on (RFace ride xc). My local bearing shop quoted £9 each. So I think I’ll go xtr, as soon as I can register at Rose. Ironically as I was researching this stuff last night I missed a new xtr BB going for £20.
    Oh well

Coatesy, thanks for that. It sounds complicated.
    Can you explain drifting?
Feeling like it may be a bit beyond me.

I think I’ll do it anyway. Can’t seem to register on Rose website, it doesn’t like my address.
There’s a good bearing supplier in Banbury so I might try and get the replacements from him, and if that doesn’t work, have another go at the Germans.

The saga continues. I popped the chain off (lost the pin obviously), got the bike up on the stand, the BB spins nice and smooth with no play. Does it only show under load? Meanwhile there is slight play in the back wheel. Grrrrrrr

I did find the English site. It was playing up when I tried to buy.
For £16 I think the xtr is better than me frikin around with the old one.
How long do they take from Germany?
As for the ‘Token’ ones, my bike is very unbling. I just need long lasting, they look nice though.

Rose bikes, €17, that is mental. I’ll order them when I can work out there website.

Right another option, rebuild this BB or get an XTR one for £34?

    jkomo

Ok so, remove the BB with an external BB tool then, is it easy to work out from there?

The vice is 260 grams on the kitchen scale, most others are way lighter.
Anyway, trying the set up on Wednesday with the wider bars.
Should be fun trying to get through Cannock with 711 bars.

The problem with them as your main and only specs is they always have some tint outdoors, for that ‘pedo’ look.
I have a pair separate to my clear specs, and sunnies for the car.

    Khani- spot on!

Jam bo- I’m going to try a 60mm Easton vice, to see how the length feels.
    If I think I can go 50mm I’ll give you a shout.
It weighs a ton so looking for lighter.

    Thanks

Floaters are just organic material floating about in the eye juice.
A big sudden increase combined with flashes- go to optician. May be a vitreous detachment (not serious), but will get a fairly quick referral to eye hospital. If you get these symptoms with a ‘curtain’ coming down over part of vision is serious. Phone your local eye hospital emergency line, get straight down there. It could be retinal detachment. More common in the very short sighted.

I have campag ‘mirage’ which I think is their lowest group set.
I bought the bike second hand a year ago and it is fantastic. Never even had to adjust. Seems to be much more reliable than my mates 105 and ultegra. Gear changes are super sharp, and the brakes very strong.
Let’s face it, ‘campagnolo’ sounds much nicer than ‘shimano’, and the logo is a work of art.
