    Anyone got one?

    Thanks both

Deviant – TBH if its more gravity biased then that’s ok for me, sort of what I’m looking for.

I’m looking for something that rips downhill, 160mm travel but can be climbed back up if needed. I would go for the Capra, but I see that its not great for tall riders and I’m 6 2. So its a toss up between the Slash and the Orbea rallon so far.

Anyone else had a go on the new Slash? Keen to get some real world view points.

Thanks for the help, I will see if I can find a large demo

Thank you, that’s good to know – sounds like it’s not an issue. I guess bikes are getting longer these days

Thank you Mike – if I can fit a bashguard that will less faff I’m sure.

In fact I made a mistake, it’s not the Next SL, it’s just the Race Face Next 2013:

Is that the same do you think? The spider doesn’t look removable as far as I can see…..but I could well be wrong

I have the Leyzne pump. It’s not bad at getting tubeless tyres up, but I’m sending it back this week due to the fact The gauge is 15 psi out. I’ve heard this is a common problem which isn’t good enough IMO

I’m using the charge on the front, it seems good & has a nice soft compound. Worth giving it a go

Thanks – you’re right they seem to be mini chain ring bolts – didn’t realise that, but have just bought some from the bike shop and they’re fine.

Does anyone know about this please?

Thanks for the info, good to know that I can get the total elapsed on the website and good to know the pros/cons

Thanks for tips, will try manually pulling the beads outwards by hand.

It’s a used tyre, not sure if that makes any difference.

I assume that they’re tubeless strips, I would have thought that all rim strips are for tubeless tyres

Thanks guys. I thought the soapy water was to just get the tyre on the rim, not to help the tyre inflate once on the rim. Maybe that’s where im going wrong – I didn’t use any soapy water at all as the tyre went on really easily!

Maybe I’ll go and remove it and put some soapy water on, then try again. If all else fails there is the compressor. Thanks again

I tend to go for the cheapy polaris ones that you can get on CRC for around £11. I find these tend to be better than the bolle safety glasses, but they also don’t break the bank

Thanks guys. Maybe have messed up on the spokes then as I went with DT comps as I wanted them to take some abuse. Maybe I should have gone with revs or super comps.

Ill definitely try lowering the psi in the rear tyre as its relatively firm. Although I did reckon that most of the knocks came front the front, which is pretty low in terms of psi

Thanks guys, glad to hear its not only me. Front is low and tubeless but the rear could probably come down a bit

I’m surprised the Orbea Rallon isn’t on there. I don’t own one but looking at other reviews (Dirt, Dirt 100, Pinkbike) it seems to be rated highly, certainly in the same ball park as the Capra

Thanks Andy – looks like a solid option

I have a large and I’m 6’2 – Id definitely say the XL would be too big for you

I’ve just got some WTB Wardens. Not tried them yet, but my brother has a set and reckons they’re good. Cheap on CRC at the moment also

Cheers, hopefully it will be ok. The guide company that I used last time has just promised a day in Varazze, looks good too

I’ve used all sorts of plastic ones over the years, some of which have snapped. The best ones I’ve used by far are the Topeak Shuttle 1.2 – so Id really recommend those:

Thanks everyone for the comments, much appreciated, think I will avoid a 2.4 HR on the back

    jk1980

Thanks – didn’t want a charge on the back as I’d heard its front specific. And I’d probably avoid a mud specific tyre as I’m looking for an all rounder, hence considering the HR2.

So how wide is the 2.4 HR2, too wide for a rear tyre? I ask as I know a 2.35 minion for example is skinnier than 2.35. But I don’t know if its the same principle for an EXO 2.4 HR2

Apologies for the thread highjack, I’ve also just bought a mavic charge for the front and wanted to clarify a question for the back.

I see a lot of people recommend a HR 2 for the back for this time of year. This surprises me a bit, I thought the HR was a summer tyre. Anyway I’m going to give the HR 2 a go (tubeless) so I guess ideally that would probably be an EXO?

I currently have a minion DHR 2.35 single ply on the back and they do come up quite small. Is the 2.4 HR 2 EXO too wide for a back tyre, or is that what most people are using when it comes to HR 2s?

Sorry scaled – I missed that you said the valves will be ok – thanks for that ill get a set ordered

Thanks good to know there’s a cheaper option…the stans stuff does seem to be expensive for tape.

Are the valves ok? Wasn’t sure if I need 35 or 44 mm valves?

Thanks all – its on a new hub so that thankfully sounds like an easy job.

Rorschach – I’m not fussed at all about making it lighter, I’d just like faster engagement, so you may well be onto something here! Are you sure its the quicker engagement ratchets though? I see no mention of it saying the engagement is better

Waldo – sorry not sure what you mean, could you please explain? Dont know much at all about tubeless as I’m giving it a go for the first time with these rims. Do you mean they can cover up the spoke holes like they do on the mavic crossmax xl? I was just planning to buy some stans tape…

LB have come back to me and recommended the DH version depending on my weight. They’ve said “Normally, the AM version is for trail riding and light riders. Basically they seem to be a beefed up XC bike or a tamed down DH bik. If your weight is around 75kg, then let us take the AM version you like :)”

I’m about 81kg without kit so I think I will go for the DH version – they’re still lighter than flows. Plus I’m not tubeless at the moment so will be trying that at the same time.

What spokes are people generally running with these? I’ve normally gone for DT completion but was thinking of maybe giving super comp or revelation a go

Thanks – I really wasn’t sure what matte ud was, but that makes sense now.

So is the general consensus that the AM version should be strong enough?

    jk1980

Ahh that makes sense – thanks, they do sound good, sounds like a great benefit to get faster acceleration.

Actually though I think both wheel sets will be better than what I currently have on my dh bike. Still have a 16 year old hope bigun on the front, it must weigh a ton! Not much better on the back, hence looking at i9/deemax.

Thanks Sam. Out of interest do you find their rear freewheel noisy when compared to other hubs? I’ve heard they’ve got a distinctive sound from the pinkbike review.

I don’t really get what 3 degree/120 point engagement actually means. I know a lot of hubs are around the 40 point engagement mark. Presumably its just less effort to turn the cranks?

It’s been several years since I’ve picked up a copy, but I always found MBR to be fairly dull and boring. The word beige sums it up for me
