Actually have just figured it out, the liner just pulls out.

For anyone else who was wondering, it looks like you have to pull off the plastic that runs around the bottom. But you don’t, you just need to unclip the liner.

Why not just get Codes? I have both Codes and guides, but hands down for me Codes are the better brake

Shame, I have a Shan & was expecting big things. Disappointed to see it’s like a rocket, would have thought they could have come up with something better

Don’t know if they’re the same but can tell you the flex air is a slightly tighter fit than other fox stuff

I’ve got a Sanction, it’s incredible downhill – absolutely love it. Contrary to the above, I find it climbs well also, much better than my old 140mm bike. I lent it to my brother one morning, which was enough to cause him to sell his Orbea and also get a sanction.

That all said I will concede the bushing thing is a pain. It’s happened twice to me in 17 months. At £20 a go that’s not a disaster, just a bit annoying. Not enough to put me off personally, I’d buy it again if I had my time over.

Andorra is fantastic, two bike parks to choose from near Vallnord. There’s Vallnord itself then soldeu, although soldeu was a 20 min taxi ride for us. Amazing riding though.

I was in the same position as you this summer and went for Saalbach Hinterglemm in Austria. Not as big as morzine, and less of a network, but you have Saalbach and Hinterglemm which are both excellent, with free lift pass in most hotels, then Leogang is rideable from the top also – World Cup track & a few others to pick from. Although we didn’t go, there is also Schladming an hour and a half away so definitely plenty for 4/5 days

I’ve got 650b Tues CF and I’m 6 2. Like you I was worried it might be a bit small but I was completely wrong, it’s huge. It’s almost like you have to put an order into the captain just to turn it!

The GT Sanction is excellent as a 160mm bike, I’d thoroughly recommend it. Also on my list would be Capra/Reign/Patrol. I’m not sure what BB standards they all have, BB standards confuse me…

There’s a used Reign frame on pinkbike at the moment, depending on what size you’re after.

I didn’t enjoy the Soul at all, so sold it and definitely don’t regret it. Good on the ups, not so good on the downs.

The Slackline gets excellent reviews and is supposed to be very capable at descending. So I guess if you want to push it a bit more on the downhills go for the Slackline, if you want something for all day/XC riding go for the Soul.

I’d recommend exposure, I’ve got the Maxx D and a Diablo and they’ve been excellent so far. Great customer service too – my charger failed which they replaced without me having to provide proof of purchase

I’ve always hired a car as I’ve found the transfers to be expensive

Have been a few times now, great place!

Ride Extreme are the company I’ve used before, have always been very pleased with them. I’ve also booked with the Ultimate Bikeshop before, who will also do shuttling, that’s been good also. Most of the shuttles seem to do similar routes anyway.

Easyjet allows up to 32kgs, so I’ve always done that. It’s super easy to get to finale from Nice, plus it’s a nice drive

Thanks guys – I will let all the air out of them tonight and see what happens

George what do you mean by suck down? Do you just mean fully compress?

Thanks – that’s somewhat reassuring that it’s not just me. Running them at 175 today felt better, running at 150 felt super smooth but will be no good for tougher tracks of course.

    Thanks

I’ve not pumped them up using that method, just because I can’t see anywhere in the manual that says you should pump in 15 psi increments. What I have done is move them 10 times through the first inch of travel every time after changing the pressure

Thanks everyone – sounds like I was mistaken – I will give them a go. I ride in clear glasses anyway so they will obviously block out more sun than those :)

For mud I find the WTB warden hard to beat. Probably would stick that on the front though, so would put the shorty on the back. I also find the DHR2 is good on the back, although not when it’s extremely muddy

    Thanks everyone…glad I asked!

I was hoping that as it’s the “Grand” version we’re looking at that it might be ok. But it seems not so we might have to hire a Vito

I was considering this and went for the Maxx d as I thought it would be enough – and its more than enough – really pleased with it. I get well over 2 hours on full.

Have a set of 26 devilles on another bike. Excellent fork, very tempted to dump my 650b Fox 36s and get a set of the FCV devilles

Why not? Perhaps a bit flexy at the back. My brother had one and sold it, citing this as the reason. It would be on my list personally but anyway if 160mm I’d also look at:

    YT Capra
    GT Sanction
    Giant Reign
    Patrol
Nomad (maybe used if on a budget!)

Loads of choice in this category but that would be a start

Just a quick update. I sent these off to mojo…excellent service, they looked at them under warranty even though I bought the bike in Germany. They stripped them down & basically said there was nothing wrong with them. They did however say that it could be possible with a lot of intense riding eg uplifts for them to go this way. Also the wiper seals were fairly dry apparently.

Having got them back they feel great again. Bit worrying really, given the low amount of use – I don’t want it just to randomly happen again.

Also worth a look at the gt sanction and the giant reign…both very good

I have a 2014 (I think) Endorphin, whichever was the last one that was 140mm. I’d echo what’s been said, it’s very impressive descending for a relatively short travel bike. I’d buy a warden or a chicoltin in a heartbeat, the endo is just loads of fun and I’ve only heard good things about the chicoltin.

The point about the seat angle is correct, it’s a bit annoying but not so bad that you can’t take it on long rides.

Re sizing go on the reach measurement vs the reach of your current bike. I’m 6 2 on a large endorphin which I think is a touch under 450mm reach. Probably wouldn’t want it any shorter, but works well for me. Also their website is pretty good at providing height ranges per frame size.

I would estimate about 60 hours riding, so way below the 125.

Hob Nob – yes the thought occurred to me….if the Deville FCV was out yet I might be tempted.

Bramble – just to clarify, I got the forks in August 2015 so not even 6 months of riding

    Thanks for the replies,

I really wouldn’t have thought they’d need a service given they’re new….but I guess I could stretch to that if needs must.

Has anyone else had a wooden feeling from the new 36s? Or has anyone changed anything (i.e. type/weight of oil) from standard?

I’ve got a sweet air jacket and at 6 foot 2 34 inch waist the large is a good fit.

I’ve just ordered the delirious also in large. Hope I haven’t gone too big based on the above comment. I’ll report back on sizing once it arrives

Singletrack Safari in Andorra could be worth a go…back country plus 2 bike parks

I’ve got industry 9 gravitys, picked them over deemax as they’re wider. Mine are 142 at the back if memory serves me correctly but I think they come in 150 also

    This.

Also, being local to the Surrey hills, I’d say a 160mm will be fine, it will allow you to get more out of the steeper trails. TBH, depending on your level, you could probably get down most of the trails on a hardtail. But as you’ll obviously get down most trails quicker on a 160mm bike, why wouldn’t you have one. Surprisingly a lot of the 160mm bikes pedal uphill just fine so really are becoming do it all bikes and therefore don’t carry as much of a penalty uphill as you might think.

I also had a set of 2013 CTD 140mm 32s. I really didn’t get on with them and would agree with what’s been said above. They kept blowing through their travel in most settings if I remember correctly and that was after putting more float fluid in as recommended by mojo. I’ve since read that 2014 onwards is much better, wish I’d known that at the time!

I’ve just gone for the 19mm Almax Immobiliser Series IV and its absolutely insane. So heavy I accidentally pulled my back when trying to quickly lift it off the floor!

I know you said 2m is not long enough, but if there’s any way you can change that, I don’t think you’ll find a chunkier chain.

Does anyone please know, is this one suitable for riding? Or is it just a walking jacket?

    jk1980

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. That really helps. If it was as simple as just buying the one you like the look of then I probably would have got one of the Fox ones. But as mentioned I’m worried about the breathability having bought a Polaris windproof last year that just turns you into a sweaty mess. Just don’t want to make that mistake twice.

A Shan will be fine for trail duties. It’s maybe a touch heavy, but not to the extent that it’s a hindrance. You’ll be having so much fun on it you won’t care anyway!

    Thanks very much everyone,

CaptainFlasheart/PP – you’ve sort of confirmed what I was fearing that spending £650 new isn’t enough.

Rick – that kit sounds worth a look I’ll have a Google.

Spooky – You’re right they do need to be fit. I maybe exaggerated. I think it’s partly down to time. You need to go back and forth to get your numbers, then walk the course which can take a while, so it’s partly to save time.
