I’ve had both a Lyrik and a 36, albeit not the grip 2 version as that’s newer. I’m currently running a Charger 2 2018 Lyrik. Really not getting on with it, I find it lacks small bump sensitivity and in general does not feel as plush as the 36 or indeed any BOS fork I’ve tried.

I’m currently tinkering with the Lyrik to improve it, but there’s a side of me that says it’s the Charger 2 damper that’s the problem and I should just cut my losses and buy a 36. That’s certainly what I’d do if I had my time again.

I’ve got one for my 160mm 2018 Lyrik, fitted by TF. I’m approx 88kg kitted so they have suggested a 55lbs spring.

I’ve been out on it today, and it really doesn’t feel good, way too harsh as it feels that the spring is too hard and ramps up really quickly even with the bottom out thing fully open. In fact on a set of trails where i normally get 140-150mm travel uses, I managed 72mm today! I’m not quite 100% back from an injury, but even so I would have expected to get through most of the travel on some sections.

Calling TF tomorrow, who are great to deal with, so hopefully they can resolve. But there’s so much ramp up, I’m thinking I could drop to a 50lb or even 45lb. Anyone else surprised by the ramp up? In open mode I was expecting it to be much more linear than it is.

    Yep they’re useless.

I’m staggered that CRC have started using them. Paid extra for next day delivery from CRC to a business address (that closes at 6pm). Unfortunately found out at approx 5.10pm when tracking my order that the Yodel driver had 48 more deliveries before me!

Another reason I need to find an alternative to CRC…

Barely worth the effort though. It used to give 10% off £100 at CRC…not any more

You can book the bikes in advance, I’ve just done this for my trip in June. I did have to do it on the phone though

I’ve got the 2018 reign and find the same thing, it climbs pretty well meaning it’s good as an all rounder

Thanks for the heads up! That’s a good deal.

Equally temping is a Ohlins TTX I’ve seen on Pinkbike for around £450. Although I was looking to buy new, saving some cash would be good of course.

Really liking the look of both the CCDB and the Ohlins, makes it hard to choose between them

    Thanks All,

Chapaking – no not played with the tokens yet, that is definitely on my to do list before I go and spend a load of money on a coil. Have heard from a few people that the tokens won’t help with the mid stroke support problem though, but I figured it doesn’t hurt to try a few less or a few more. I don’t know whats in there TBH so worth checking.

The o-ring on the shock gets to within about 2mm of the shock body, so i assume that’s the bottom out but i could be wrong. It pedals fine although does feel a touch harsh on smaller hits which i think must be due to me adding some HSC.

As it happens TF did say the CCDB is a solid option, they said its not quite as good as the DHX2 but the margins are tiny

    Thanks all for the suggestions,

That Morocco one does look better than the other Morocco ones I’d found and San Remo is also a solid option so thank you.

Thank you, quite a few suggestions there.

Although not in Europe, I’m also looking at Morocco as it’s close. Does anyone know if there is anything decent there? Thought it would be good but looks a bit tame from the sites I’ve seen

    I’m still looking at this…

Does anyone please know how they set the value of the goods to charge the customs? What I’m thinking here for a second hand bike can’t the seller just declare a lower value? I’m not thinking anything crazy here, but if it’s a £4K second hand bike, declared by the seller at £2k, how are they going to know I paid £4K for it?

I.e can it ever get to the point where they demand payment evidence?

The reign will be fine for trail centre use. I’ve got a 2018 Reign and I’d say it pedals better than a 140mm Bike I have.

Also it has a reputation as a bit of a bruiser. While it is very good downhill, it’s not as much of a bruiser as the GT sanction that it replaced, so for me this has meant the reign is more versatile

For true slop I use either a mud king or dirty dan, they’re proper mud tyres of course. Have never got on with the shorty personally, so I use a Mary as an all rounder, then when it gets bad I switch to the Mud King

Thanks everyone….but that sucks!! I thought maybe there would be duty but naively didn’t think there would be VAT on second hand goods. And if one_happy_hippy is right about the 14% on bikes then that is ludicrous!

Does anyone please know how they determine the value of the goods? The bike is approx. $3500, but as its second hand how do they know how much I paid for it to set the duty amount? Or do they simply do it from the declared value from the shipping amount?

    Thank you

We went to Lousa in Portugal with Wheelers holidays in March this year, great riding.

It’s a guided uplift though, so great if you want to ride DH tracks, not so good I guess if you want pedalling.

Thank you…this is what I’m worried about and always a bit of a pain to send these things back if you get the wrong size.

Does anyone have one who could confirm the sizing please?

I’ve got the new Code RSCs on the DH bike, with the Guide RSCs on another bike. I’ve also had the older Codes on other bikes. The Codes for me have been incredible, much better than any brakes I’ve tried.

The Guides feel average. No money no object I would be swapping mine for a set of Codes

Actually one more question. Do these headsets alter any other measurements other than reach and stack height? Wb also I guess.

What I wouldn’t want to alter is things like head angle

    jk1980

Thanks otsdr, that clears it up. You’re right about the increased stack height, but as someone has  pointed out the reign has a stupidly low stack height, so that doesn’t worry me at all to increase it a bit.

    Thanks all for your help

    Thank you both.

You’re right you would need a long wheelbase for stability. Is there any truth in a dh bike needing to have a slightly shorter reach to get your weight right over the back wheel?

Andora. Vallnord and Soldeu bike parks there. Pretty sure I went there at the end of Sept if that’s any good

Probably not a direct comparison but maybe this will help:

I normally run a 2.3 Minion 3C Exo on the trail Bike, but have recently tried a SuperGravity Mary 2.35 (purple). The difference in drag is staggering, the Mary has way more drag. All my mates run the SG Mary on trail bikes, but I’ll be going back to a minion

    Thanks everyone,

My reason for wanting to go smaller is primarily because the bike I’m getting is a beast of enough already without having massive heavy tyres. I’m sure that would be great for bike parks, but this bike won’t be getting used for that.

So really I was just thinking that the WTs would have a bit too much drag for general riding

    Thanks all

Does anyone know where I can try one of these please? e.g. to hire it. I definitely need to see how it climbs, hopefully in theory should be no worse than my current Bike.

The trouble is im only interested in the Advanced 0 2018 in L, and I know for a fact there’s one left in the country, and the shop won’t let me try it before buying.

Therefore I figure the best bet would be to hire any Reign in large.  I can’t find any bike park etc that hires them. Does anyone know of one please?

Thanks chiefgrooveguru – in which case, for me as I’m fairly tall, it sounds like it may be an issue.

A bit frustrating when you’re buying over the web without trying first, it becomes a bit of a punt

Thank you….so what is effective seat angle then? Is that something like a seat angle that changes with the sag of the suspension?

I’ve gone Alamax 19, huge chain I’m happy I went for it. As has been mentioned, if you can cut it off then you’re going to need power tools

I’m using the maxima fork fluid, so as I understand that’s as close as you’ll get to Spectro over here.

I am just really wondering if it’s affected badly by the cold. On Saturday, when it was approx 7 degrees and after burping with a zip tie they felt much better. Stupidly I should have tried them on Saturday without burping, so now I don’t know whether it’s the warmer weather or the burping that’s improved them. They still don’t feel amazing, but at least I have a few things to try.

My comment about the weather is because on Weds evening it was about -3 and they felt utterly terrible. As previously mentioned that was without any compression or rebound on.

    Thanks for the suggestions

    Thanks everyone for the replies,

Onzadog – thanks I will give that a go, had no idea you could run it without the damper, but would be interesting to see if its still slow.

The thought had occurred to me to get those PUSH springs, I’ve heard on that other thread that they’re excellent, its just at what point do you stop chucking money at something really. TBH I have BOS Devilles on a 26″ bike and am sort of kicking myself now for not just getting another set. Performance of the BOS damper is first class, its just I’d hoped that the 36 chassis combined with the Avy damper would be awesome.

I’m about 82kg and the cartridge is brand new. As you’ve all said, Avvy cartridges have a great reputation so its unlikely to be that. This thread does give me some ideas though, so thank you.

Oh actually 1 thing to say having gone out today. I tried that burping technique whereby you pop a zip tie under the seal. After this they did seem a bit better, but don’t blow you away. Plus its warmer today, I don’t know if the Fox air spring gets affected by the cold?

I’ve just got the MRP kit for the 36. Early days, only had a few rides, so by no means conclusive, but still find them harsh and very slow.

Another option is the Andreani kit which I heard from someone makes a difference. Has anyone tried that?

I was sort of on auto pilot when ordering this, but on reflection the Super Gravity tyre weighs a ton. I use them for the DH bike but they seem too heavy for a trail bike.

Does anyone please know if the purple Addix are available in non super gravity? I can’t seem to find any
