Yep, down on the beach, back to the cottage for lunch with the Mrs and the dogs, not doing the “family” being told “Your having mother over for lunch tomorrow” thing this year… :D

I intend get my weight down, increase upper body strength for xmas and a weeks surfing down the Gower so the following regime has been adopted –

Gym and swim 3 times a week.
Spinning once a week, had started to do it twice a week but the rest of the body wasn’t getting as much of a workout.
Ride on the hills at the weekend for a blast!!

Thanks for the correction Stoner, Malvern’s street-naming never makes sense to me, I mean Pickersleigh Road / Avenue whats-that-all-about??

Great thing about the hills is they’re fairly rideable the year round. If it’s damp between now and you’re stay i’d avoid 6 acre wood as that does become a bog-fest, if you head out from the North Hill car parks most the trails are ok.

Red-necks / purple-rinse brigade can be a pain, but so long as you polite to them you’ll be okay.

How long are you about for?

Malvern is within gobbing distance of Ankerdine, there are a couple of routes in the trail guide at the top to play with, or Back-On-Track Bikes has a couple of routes and advise on the website or in the shop at West Malvern.

Racking my memory … I think maybe the pedals were double sided, Look and Shimano – does that sound likely?

They are double-sided, but it’s a flat pedal and strap, and Shimano SPD…

Why not ring the gym and ask them??

    jimster

IIRC they use SPD system, not the SPD-SL.

Fort William/Laggan are only an hour-or-so away from each other, throw into the equation the Cairn Gorms routes available from Bothy Bikes in Aviemore or an OS map for natural stuff in the area.

Just keep saying to yourself – “SPEED IS MY FRIEND, SPEED IS MY FRIEND”

Tried that on one section, it certainly wasn’t as the off-camber wet roots spat me down the bank!!!

’95 Kona Cindercone, 1st proper Off-Road bike, had a British Eagle which was good at the time but the Kona knocked spots off it.

True, however the OP question was “Whilst on a long ride??” and I wouldn’t stop at McD’s – I find more country pubs doing “decent” food as opposed to the muck they serve in McD’s, even if it is a ham and cheese toastie.

Nope, never, the pub, plate of chips and a pint, now you’re talking. 8)

Or alternatiely if someone else manages to ride the section then you can see how easy it in fact is.

Have to agree with this, the other week riding up at Laggan I bottled Air’s rock  as I was riding on my own, 10 miles from where I was staying, with the car so Mrs J wouldn’t have known what had happened, BUT with my cycling buddies leading the way I’d have been taking air down it!!

It’s just the self-peservation thing in yer head.

Radcliffe and Marconi were discussing this at lunchtime – in between the stammers and pauses they did come out with the reunion worth anything would be an Abba reunion, anything else is just going thru the motions for cash.

How true it is is hard to say.

Part of me thinks “A good prank to play” in a schoolboyish way, but then why would a FC worker be carrying the key to that particular gate when he’s out on a ride himself, unless he’s commuting home and keeps all the forest gate keys on him as opposed to the office?

Troll IMO :? and not a very good one at that.

Wettest two weeks I had was up in Scotland, showery and bloody blustery the whole time. Chatting to a local at Laggan and he’d just given up on the weather for the year, so swings and roundabouts I guess.

Does the Camra thing actually mean anything?

Don’t think so, just gets a mention in their monthly version of Singletrack.

Beer Festivals too, what is the point in buying a half, sipping a bit, if it’s half decent bottling it!!! Okay, so you’ve sampled 15 different beers and got it preserved for time immemorial, whoppy-doo!!!!

    Privilege.

Compulsory retest tied in with the expiry of photo-licence to generate revenue and get the crap drivers off the road.

And of anyone uses the argument “I couldn’t pass a test now” you shouldn’t be driving!!!!

However, if they were to consider charging to ride, the simplest solution for them would be to up the parking charge. People would feel better about paying if there was a bloody big sign saying “£2 of your parking fee goes to trail building”.

Pretty sure the car parking sign at Wolftrax Laggan say’s that, made me feel abit of a tightwad being 25p short in change for the meter, was Wednesday when the shop/cafe are shut.

Back and absolutely freaking fabulous – yes it rained most the time but had an absolute blast up there.

As someone here said, Bothy Bikes, very helpful indeed, popped over to Fort Will did the Champs Course and a bit of Ten Under course – both great fun.

And Laggan was on the doorstep!!!!

May well be taking my two week holiday on my own next year, well me and the dog. 8)

    ’96 Cindercone.

My Giant NRS is nice, as is the In-Bred with sliding drop-outs but they will never compare to the ‘cone.

Was truly gutted when the drop-out died.

Right, I’ll be up there in at the weekend – can’t wait, looks like there’s some real good riding to be had.
