    I would say:

    1. Learn to spell Colombia. They will get arsey about it otherwise.

    2. Buy a car in the US. Used old cars are FAR more expensive in South America and you can get something old but reliable for $5k in the US.

That said, expect to stand out if you do drive around in a car with US plates. You may have more trouble with both criminals and law enforcement.

http://www.mundoanuncio.com/ is a kind of South American gumtree, you could have a look what kind of cars your budget would buy.

Could it just be that the bearings are shagged and when you loosen the QR the axle is spinning around the QR rather than the bearings around the axle?

(coincidentally in Brazil they call Brazil nuts, nuts)

A common misconception, they actually call them “Parà chestnuts”, Parà being a region of Brazil.

Might be worth searching his name on facebook and seeing if there are many in the local area, unless it’s a very common name.

Can get them anywhere, really cheap.

Edit: wish I’d found this one before posting the link. Or this one.

Hang on: You’re saying there’s usually 3 or more people able to use this place for parking, and now this guy’s come along and locked his own car in so no one else can park there?

Padlock revenge tomorrow is the only way to right this injustice.

I believe the Mars Trilogy is widely held to be top of the ‘realistic’ sci-fi stakes. A very good read.

Edit: I didn’t realise The Martians was the book of short stories from the same author. Should have read my own link.

Look up the base tune on the cane creek web site and it will tell you if they recommend the XV or not.

It’s called a noisette round these parts, very nice though. Converted my mum when she was last over to visit.

Yep I use it in exactly the same way, yet to find much in the way of functionality I would like to have and don’t. You can choose by artist, album, genre and shuffle within any of those headings. You can also have your favourite music on device, but allow it to cache a random sample of the rest of your music whenever you’re on wifi so that you get more variety when you shuffle all songs.

The uploading your own music service really doesn’t compare to any streaming services like Spotify etc. It’s just a cloud service for music, I’ve no idea how it integrates with the streaming service if you do decide to pay, but beyond what you upload there’s no streaming for free. There’s no Google equivalent to Spotify’s free service with ads as far as I’m aware.

Have you considered the Roval Fatties? £400, DT Swiss hub internals, Spesh customer service and 29mm internal width. I’ve not heard much on long-term durability of the rims though cos they’re quite new.

I think the vast majority of those fighting with ISIS have no medical / mental condition at all.

Mass delusion, the same as any religious person. Just taken to an extreme degree.

Can you not just leave the camera turned off, and ask her to turn it on as she leaves the dog after the walk? Then you can spy on him all afternoon.

In Spanish there’s no word for a billion, so they just say a thousand million.

    In Mandarin there’s a word for “?”.

I prefer my 1*10 with a triple. Gives me more gears at the top and bottom of the range with little extra weight and doesn’t need a weird 40t cassette. It’s win win

😆 Can’t tell if massive misunderstanding or expert trolling…

Some Capras are in stock, depending on size. Change the colour option where there is one and the date will change.

I’m looking at similar options at the moment but in terms of a spec I want for the price I’m finding it hard to look past this Norco from Evans.

    ç – hold ‘alt’ then type ‘0231’
    è – hold ‘alt’ then type ‘0232’
    é – hold ‘alt’ then type ‘0233’
    ê – hold ‘alt’ then type ‘0234’
    ù – hold ‘alt’ then type ‘0249’

This is what I meant by tricky.

It’s a subtle distinction, but “rose” is French for pink and “rosé” is French for pink-coloured. If we had the verb “to pink” in English (as they do in French) then we’d translate it as pinked.

Putting the é in is easy though, it’s just alt+e. It’s the è, à, ç and ù that get tricky, unless you’re using a French keyboard like I am 😉

Enemy by Denis Villeneuve is a bit dark and different. Worth watching that and Ayoade’s The Double around the same time to see which take on it you prefer. Personally, I much preferred Villeneuve’s, even though I’m generally a massive Ayoade fan.

If what you really want us a van, just get some old minibus seats for whichever model you buy from eBay and bolt them in. They start from about a tenner a seat for some models. That said, I’m not sure you’d find a van worth having for the same sort of budget you’re looking at here.

I take my 5 off overnight every night, it lasts about 12-24 hours unworn I think. However, after about 9 months of ownership, it now gains almost a minute a day. May have a look for this adjustment tool from Maplins, can anyone post a link?

You can work out exactly how much energy needs to be transferred from the room to the water, but working out how quickly this will occur is, as pointed out, very hard. The easiest way would be to actually do it, measure the temperature over time and plot a graph empirically. Even if you were to build a computer model of the system, most of the input for that would need to be from various empirical experiments anyway.

Couldn’t this be avoided by just pouring a bit of drinking water over the caliper when you arrive at work/home? It’s hardly a full wash, and plain water will be much better for the calipers than salty water.

I had half a day there last year, it’s a nice city to have a wonder round, there’s a few “attractions” like the water jet in the lake and the flower clock, and there’s quite a few museums too. The one thing I’d have done if I had more time would be a tour of CERN, which I think you need to book in advance. If you’re not into old buildings or museums you might be hard pressed to find enough to do for more than a day or two. They do give out free bikes for up to 4 hours with a small charge beyond that though if you wanted to ride along the shore of the lake.

Einstein married Elsa Lowenthal, who was Einstein’s first cousin on his mother’s side and second cousin on his father’s side.

It would be clearer to say: Einstein’s dad’s cousin had a child with Einstein’s mom’s sibling, and he married said offspring later in life.

I’ve got them, but I’m in bed with the flu and they’re at work. I’ll get my colleague to courier them to you. Do let me know if you want a tracking number.
