When I am doing weights I always do CV exercise first (cycling / running) then weights after.

Especially if you are doing “x number of reps to failure” kind of lifting. Then going for a long ride at the end of day is just going to fry those muscles even more and it will be hard to measure progress against cycling after a weights workout as you will tired from the morning, thus your RPE against a certain HR zone will seem higher than usual.

I would do the cycling in the morning, then weights in the evening.

Will they be including the sub categories such as single speed solo (the category I entered)?

I’ve got a Hope Pro II on the back with a normal cassette SS conversion kit so I can adjust the chainline with the spacers. So the 113mm should do?

I have lost three of them. I now carry a 2.5mm hex spanner in my pack.

Inbred SS and Spesh Tricross SS.

I either gear down (32/18) for Wales and enduros or run it as a 1×9 setup for a period in the summer for weekend trips.

Cheap as chips and loads of fun, plus it allows the brain to enjoy the ride rather than worrying about what gear to use!

+1 for Notts (born and bred, though it’s been sometime since I lived there)

    I stand corrected!

    I read this book

Sharkey (the author) said that they used to beat F-15s in mock dog fights during exercises like Red Flag because they could turn inside any of the large and more powerful fighters, a great aircraft IMO.

The missus had shingles three years ago. She was rushed into hospital. The doctors said that if she had been admitted 48 hours later there would have been the chance that she would have died as the she also has a condition called Lupus which means that she has to take immunosuppressive drugs which means that the shingles is made all the more worse.

The shingles spread from head to toe, the nurses at the Southampton General would not even go near her. She even heard them arguing over who was going to bring food into her room. And even when I went to visit I heard something like “I’ve got kids, you haven’t, you can take her blood pressure”. This was on the general ward, after a week in that cesspit she was then transferred to the high intensive ward for two weeks. Where the care and treatment was superb. Really amazing how in one dept she got third world level health care and in the other ward the care was faultless.

Moral to the story is that shingles can be very serious especially if there are other complications. Getting shingles treated early is the key. If it is left too late the drugs are no where near effective.

IWH – Cheers, we shall follow up on that advice.

For a lot of Lupus sufferers the problem is not so much at home as there are workarounds (use sidelights instead of main lights) but rather in the work place or public places where there is no choice but to sit by a strong low energy light source for example in an office or a doctors surgery.

It can’t be too hard to make a low energy bulb that is low in UV light. There are some brands of low energy bulbs that kick out up to 5 times more UV energy than other bulbs for the same wattage. When the new low energy bulbs were enforced the government should have stipulated a max UV rating for manufacturers.

I agree with eco benefits of low energy light bulbs. But what i don’t like is the government ramming the things down our throats.

My missus suffers from SLE which is a form of Lupus which causes her joints to swell and causes pain when she moves. It is caused by her immune system attacking her own body, so she takes drugs to suppress her immune system. If she goes out in the sun for any length of time this boosts her immune system and brings on the Lupus.

And guess what the new low energy bulbs give off UV light so these can cause her Lupus to come out. There are no exemptions from low energy bulbs, yet another ‘one size fits all’ from the government which does not fit all individual. BTW we have low energy bulbs at home but only in rooms that we seldom use and a stockpile of the old bulbs for the other rooms.

    Hi Poppa,
Try out New Force MTB club[/url]

We have two groups going from Winchester on a Thursday. We have named them after the strength of curry dishes.

Tikka Masala: they leave at around 6:30pm from various pubs in the local area and ride for 15miles they are usually back for 9pm. A friendly bunch of riders.

Madras: we usually leave from the Queen Inn on Kingsgates St at 7pm. We usually cover 25-30 miles (20 in winter) and aim to get back to the pub for last orders. The pace is steady but not lightening fast. we have seen the Hargroves lot out and they fly by but then they don’t drink beer at the end of their ride, we do!

If you’re interested post a message on the New Force board or just turn up.

Raleigh Striker for me, the bike wasn’t too bad especially with the novelty “if you pedal backwards you stop” braking system.

What made it the least favorite is that the stem broke, this was repaired down the local garage with a weld around the base, three times it got welded after snapping. Causing numerous gravel rash incidents.

Thom, I guess that’s common sense talking there…

I had used a 6inch spanner to tighten the nuts, and it still sliped. Surly spanner and a cheapo chaintug to order me thinks.

I didn’t get too far from home so she didn’t mind! The hardest part was explaining where the spanner was amongst all my bike crap that’s in the garage.

Aye, I could use a chain tug with the existing axle, just wandered if it’s possible to cut down on the amount of tools I need to carry (or not in this cass…). Plus it’s an excuse to take something apart, again.
