Absolutely. much better that temporarily unoccupied properties are all boarded up to prevent any money changing hands!

How is the position I am in not total luck?

Luck with a high IQ might have got you there initially, but that alone wouldn’t keep you there.

If your comment was in response to mine funkmaster, then to clarify,
I didn’t mean to imply any link between being ‘good’ and wealth and agree bastards often seem to ‘win’,
I’m just suggesting the point that ‘luck’ is probably more nuanced than being solely right place/right time.

There’s hard determined work, there’s pure luck, but the bit that seems to be missing is simply not being a d1ck – is that a part of making your own luck?
People saying they’ve just been ‘lucky’ probably aren’t giving themselves enough credit for showing humanity, compassion, caring and many of the other significant traits that might be turning luck their way.

This is probably irrelevant, as not sure sync you describe is same/similar to the android auto issue I had.
Ford (Galaxy) continually rejected ‘USB device’ which I assumed meant it knew the phone was there but didn’t like it. Eventually bought a decent quality Anker cable and instantly resolved.
Combo of connections across other cables must just have been leading to messages that didn’t match the issue.

All the above, plus small portable heater so you don’t drive yourself nuts trying to get temp right in the whole house etc.

In my experience, no one will be looking to see when you’ve clocked on and off, so don’t worry about everything appearing slack – do what you’d do in the office, break for lunch, chat etc

You’ll get a load more rambling meetings, with the constraints of a room booking, various people will go on for ever, so right agenda control and jumping off meetings on the dot. Making your calendar available and watertight helps. When someone’s booking a meeting you don’t want them to presume you can just keep going.

Sorry, bit grandmother and eggs that last bit, worth taking control!

And comfy desk. For 6mths of lock down my neighbour worked on his laptop, sitting on his bed with ironing board for a desk. He’s still getting medical attention for the mess he’s made of his back.
Ironically he works in local council who are usually all over the HSE!

I’m lazy with this, build up the credit and work through it over the winter.
I’m aware it’s money in their bank rather than mine, but happy to do that with ecotricity, as it’s being invested in green solutions.
(Although, yes, I’m aware they’ll still be profiting from it, paying staff etc)

Sorry if it’s already been mentioned..and I could well be wrong..but think 9/10 also a classic period of testosterone growth in boys, so hormones and energy raging.
We were often approaching similar issues to the OP until a couple of months ago when he suddenly started football training – Thursday/Friday and Saturday football hasn’t stopped the energy but it’s made it positively bouncing off the walls/excitement, rather than heated.
Doesn’t help OP with managing the current situation, but certainly done a huge amount to calm things down for us

I got mine a few years ago and decided they were too wide, so cut them down a little…then regretted it ever since.

That’s the irony of changing standards. If you do want older, quality stuff it’s rarer to find so the price stays high, but that’s not relevant in the ‘mate stakes’ on a built bike, so will almost certainly let them go cheap.
Better to have a full bike being sold off cheap and ridden than a pile of parts sitting on eBay for a year.

Elements of a classic ST thread:

Person 1: “This is my objective review and I have personally found this rack the easiest I have ever used”

Persons X,Y,Z: “I have never clapped eyes on this rack, it’s more expensive than mine, therefore your opinion is wrong”

I’ve liked the DHB ones I got when they were on sale at £25. No idea what they’re priced at now… But given the news this week…

Apologies. I raised income protection insurance with no knowledge of self-employed etc. When I took it I was PAYE and it would kick in from when the work sick pay ceased, so appreciate that’s a very different scenario to a self-employed person who’s income ends instantly and of course makes a massive difference to the premiums involved.
    Good luck

I can’t help with anything useful, but would encourage, as per fossy above, to encourage kids/nephews/cousins etc to take out income protection insurance. It’s cheap for what you get and covers exactly this kind of thing.
Good luck to the OP and family.

Ulti-mate multi pack looks like something for my future.

Thanks. Liking the look of that Ulti-mate set with the removal boxes. Plenty of sizes that I’ll rarely use, but can then just top up the regular ones.

So would people outlaw brand sales?

In an ideal world, yes. Unless it’s the same manufacturer and same product etc, then it shouldn’t be the same brand name.

    But appreciate that’s completely naive/idealistic

but the whole concept right from the sole trader to the SME to this sort of deal. You are basically selling the brand recognition and the reputation (and maybe the client list) to a totally different person or organisation who have done nothing to deserve it. It’s tantamount to fraud in my books. You are basically conning the unaware consumer that the new owners/operators deserve to be trusted the same as the old ones. It’s a bag of shite.

Couldn’t agree more. This has happened to countless brands under SportsDirect, Karrimor already mentioned above.

Buy in the last of the good stuff people trust, then downgrade the production and manufacturing to the usual sweat shops, until it eventually gives up.

M.Ashley might not be doing anything wrong and it was for the owners to save etc, but the whole practice still stinks.

I’ve spent a lot of time in hospital over the last year. At 50 it’s heartening to be regularly referred to as ‘young and fit’!

In hospital terms, 50 is still considered young, so you can take some solace in that.

Never seen that Lance mountain pogo bit before – great stuff.

As for the OP video, that’s a great video, some lovely camera shots in there…even if the pogo thing is, erm, a bit niche!

Been there more than once and usually my fault, but can now be smug about it…

We were tipped off to use trade paints, from trade supplies as they do much bigger mixer pots – then get a roll of lining paper and do a massive, length of that with two coats of the test. Then you’ve a huge sample to play with and you can move it around the room, under different lights etc

I just find it odd that they announce ‘treatment for cancer’ as if it’s a single disease. There’s hundreds of types of cancer and thousands of pathways of treatment, so a vague announcement of just ‘cancer’ is unhelpful, but guess it’s a case of saying the bare minimum to account for lack of public visibility.

As for treatment. It’s not simply about private/ queue jumping/ preferential treatment.

I saw my GP with a dodgy stomach and some odd symptoms, was in a scanner the next day and at a special consultant within days. Which is the norm around here it seems (S.Oxfordshire), so it really is a postcode lottery

    Sealant.

Tried all the tools, all the techniques, watched all the videos, had all the advice.

Still end up sobbing and covered head to toe in sealant.

    What bikes are 142mm ?

142mm through axle is the newer standard for road/endurance/gravel, taking over from 135mm quick release

Thanks all. Knew this was the place to come – Google searches were a complete wormhole.

FuzzyWuzzy – It’s for a pretty hefty graphics card which is why it needs a decent amount of power to the GPU (as much as I understand it)

Guess it’s a bit trial and error as to how much through power is enough to satisfy performance and charging.

I’m just a little dubious about putting a full 130w into USB not knowing how the 130w that goes into the specifc power port is distributed, so tempted to try a lower power through docking station first – or is that just unecessarily cautious?

Orkney and Brownsea have been great.

Unfortunately Packham’s innuendo and trouser stroking is making my daughter feel uncomfortable.

I know they probably need to pad out a live show a bit, but the forced ‘banter’ seems to waste a lot of time and winds me up.

If OP hasn’t been to the NF before then you can ignore a lot of the comments about locals and Verderers as there’s enough ‘official’ forestry bike trails to keep you very happy on a gravel bike and you’ll have no problems.

    Can’t go wrong with this – https://bikepacking.com/routes/new-forest-gravel-taster-uk/

From the comments above, seems the issues are where you’re off the main trails, but can’t comment on that.

Some excellent info here,.so many thanks,. particularly for the ATM insights!

Two people in front of me used the machine, it was clear that it was running very slowly, but both people got their money ok.

It was painfully slow when I was using it, so there was obviously a problem, then the out of service notice, so pretty sure it was a complete machine fail,.rather than me leaving before the cash came out.

Anyways, will take it up again with FD and as suggested above request further details of their interactions with Nationwide.

    Thanks all

I have seen the financial obudsman advice desperatebicycle, but does sound like pretty extreme lengths to go.

Will be pushing back with my own bank first

    Thanks
