I have a CCTV camera on the shed door and inside the shed. Has kept the little scrotes away so far…

(Expect I’ll get burgled next week now I’ve said that)

I have occasionally thought about Zip Car – there’s a van just down the road from us.

BUT – it’s £11 an hour plus the annual fee (£60?) so that would be somewhere in the region of £50 for an afternoon out.

This sort of thing has a lot more of an effect on me than pictures of dead bodies…

But I don’t think I have any Facebook friends that would be so insensitive as to post really graphic stuff.

Will be first time on a bike for over a month, so a bimble on the gmarmac down the Thames tow path with the Mrs. If that goes well and my calf isn’t foobared again, maybe a pootle round Swinley on Monday.

I have one of these on my Nerve (my first bike with thru axles) – when I first got it the bolt would just spin.

I realised you also need a little bit inward pressure on the allen key to get it to bite. Never had to hold anything on the other end.

If that doesn’t cure it then I guess you need some new parts…

Was at Le Mans with the olds when I was but 8. Apparently about 3am a drunken Welshman fell into the tent, collapsing the ridge pole (yes a ridge pole, it was a long time ago).

I didn’t hear a word of it – woke up in our friends massive tent the next day which is where we stayed for the rest of the weekend.

    I’m on my 4th Z3 compact.

    1) DOA
    2) Dropped on road, back smashed
    3) Cracked back in pocket or innocuous drop to hardfloor in house
    4) Current, no issues so far

The glass back makes a rubbery case essential unless you have the hands of a gecko.

Otherwise, I like it. Takes good pictures.

What Mike said, it’s a “university tax”. You only have to pay it if you actually ever earn enough to benefit from your education.

TBH, I think the repay threshold is too low but putting it up won’t win any votes so they don’t do it. They would be better off saying you need to earn 125% of the average national wage before you start paying back – without doing any maths, that seems fair to me.

It’s all Tony Blairs fault anyway – the “50% of school leavers should go to university” seems to have removed a lot of vocational routes to work.

Dez B Wow, some folk really do live in some fantasy world.

    How about…

Cyclist: Hi, I’m Jim, what’s your name?
    Driver: Dave
Jim: Hi Dave, I have to say I felt a bit intimidated by your close pass earlier. A less experienced cyclist might have been upset by that and there could have been a collision.
Dave: Oh, sorry I’m a bit stressed and in a bit of a rush – I’ll try and pay more attention
Jim: Thanks Dave, I hope you have a good day.

Or buying the right tool for the job.

Whilst i generally agree, you always have your smartphone with you.

+1 for a quad lock, use the universal kit with your own case if you don’t have an iphone

Similar in Fenchurch Street branch, two guys who know their stuff and two people who are frankly not worth the carbon they are made out of.

Thankfully, I know which is which now…

I used to work in Budapest around the turn of the century. Folks above have it covered
    +1 for:
    szczesny baths
    gellert baths
    castle
    river cruise

If these places are still going, they are worth going to:
Old Man’s Music Pub – as the name implies, live music most nights of the week.
Fausto Italian – not cheap, but super quality.
Listz Ferenc Ter (Frans Listz Square) had outdoor eateries & a nice vibe, just round the corner from Oktagon.

In March you might still have crappy weather, it might be ok. Snow should be well gone, but roads might still be filthy, take some sturdy shoes.

I’ve an 800, thinking of selling it as I never use it anymore. Surprised TBH STRAVA haven’t made a good app yet. They have all the mapping, ride logs, etc, why not just add a feature to follow someone else’s ride? Pop on a waterproof case and bar mount and you’re good to go.

Have you seen the “My Routes” feature?

I use Runtastic MTB which is pretty good, but I think Strava do a similar thing.

    +1 for Soup.

If you can’t reheat your own at work, all of the chain sandwich shops (e.g. Pret, EAT) do it now.

Still recovering from calf injury, so will spend an hour on the turbo in a stifling shed before heading down to the old’s place in Dorking to cheer all of you doing the Pru 100 tomorrow and write GO CAV on the road.

Old Operating Theatre and the Clink (both not far from HMS B and Tate Modern) might be worth a look.

I recently did the Thames Rib Experience. It was a work thing so I didn’t pay for it, but pretty good fun.

Maybe your heart isn’t in the technical stuff anymore – time to move into BA?

I started work life as an RPG400 programmer. I moved into java briefly, but most of the time I’ve been trying to learn more about the subject matter – e.g. finance / logistics / whatever.

I now write specs & design new systems + a shed load of other documentation (but let’s gloss over that boring bit).

TBH, it’s a lot easier than learning a new framework…

Why don’t you try writing a framework? You could make gazillions!

I have an Arkose 4, with SKS longboards.

I needed a new set of these after somebody ran into me -http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/sks-secu-clips-for-front-mudguard-stays-per-pair-prod666

    Otherwise they have been fine.

    Hydro brakes are awesome.

But, you will need a 105 chainset/bb – the FSA ones are made of slightly hardened butter.

I’d buy a 2015 GP4season with the Black Chilli compound and the Vectran pucnture protection over a Gatorskin any day

These are what I would buy:

Continental GP4 Season – Evans Clicky Link

Be prepared to buy at least another one (possibly 2) after 1000kms.

I’ve just replaced with Hardskins. Will see if they are any better…

There are a lot of studies about at the moment saying cramp isn’t due to electrolyte issues, and a ton of anecdotal evidence to suggest taking an electrolyte drink & staying hydrated will lessen/prevent it.

I’m about as far away from an elite racer as you can get. These things helped me reduce cramps effects (or even stopping it happening for the first few hours):
    Getting fitter
Loading up electrolytes in the week beforehand, magnesium apparently being one of the better ones.

£2 a week charity donation / additional tax:

1:14million chance of a life changing win,
    £1 goes on prize money
55p donated to a good cause
24p levied by the government to help cure the deficit
The rest goes on profits for camelot (which they will also pay tax on)

I doubt £2 a week donated to any charity would get anywhere near the economic benefits. It certainly wouldn’t get you the chance at having your money back.

So the question becomes, why aren’t you doing your bit & buying a ticket every week?

Neither of those will be any good, you definitely need a new bike.

I’ve got a video camera outside my shed. It’s often lost the WiFi connection but the scrotes done know that.

Inside the shed, the bikes are all secured to a ground anchor.

The shed is just to keep the weather out, not the thieves.

No need to buy from eBay, you can get from Amazon now.

I have this one from last year. Bright enough to piss off people cowing the other way. My version didn’t have a waterproof battery box (that some of them come with) but a bit of gaffer tape solved that.

    So sad.

I pretty much always ride solo around Swinley, but I’m never alone – even on an after work ride in the middle of winter there’s somebody around.

Big thanks to the guys who stopped.

Attitudes of drivers will not change until we manage to get “strict liability” implemented in the UK

The chances of achieving this nirvana however…
