Mine from about 2 years ago came with 2 sets of rubber inserts for the mount, just a case of swapping them depending on which bars I’m using.

Measure the BB shell, will either be 68mm or 73mm, then use the spacers as described in the instructions you should get with the BB, or from here

Been posted before, but the BBC were abit quick with their orginal heading, saying it was a Tank, when it is clearly a BTR, they’ve change it now.

ISO or JISare the headset types, and have different frame cup diameters, you need the correct headset for the frame.

Houns, you lucky your crystal reds have survived, I had a pair just like that, about 7 years ago the clear plastic started to delaminate and break up (really good Oakley warranty tho), same with a pair of crystal Frogskins

HS77 should fetch decent money, for other odd parts, unless you have 2 people who get into a bidding war, can’t see the prices going too high.

Are you US based? if not, why ebay.com and not ebay.co.uk, with options for worldwide postage works as well, you may get more interst from Europe, esp Germany than the US for some bits.

If you can find an older (Italian) pair of Marzocchi forks, Windwave can put a new 1″ steerer tube in, I had this done on a pair of Z2’s a few years ago, not sure if they can do it with the current far east produced forks. You can also get carbon rigid forks new from ebay.

£250 to return this as they said it was exchanged with Audi, I thought surely i must be entitled to a part on a car i own myself!!

Don’t see a problem with being charged for the exchange unit, the cost of the one they fitted would have been discounted for the exchange, if you want it, they will have to pay for that.

Out of warranty tho, would look at an independant VAG garage for service, rather than pay full price at an Audi dealer

Wrong bike wasn’t bought, I’m very happy with the rest of it for the price I paid. To have got something significantly better would have cost a whole heap more money, and I read the reviews online before I bought it, and in each case they said great bike but you will want to upgrade the wheels soon as they’re quite heavy and flexy.

If the bike cost £700, and you intend to drop another couple of hundred on a new wheelset as soon as you have bought it, you may as well get a better bike in the first place, the £999 price mark is a sweet spot for road bikes due to the Cycle to Work scheme, and there are some really good deals there, which would not need the additional expence of new wheels.

The OP really need to get the original wheel sorted as a warranty issue upgrading after a couple of rides is a bit pointless; and suggests that the wrong bike was bought in the first place.

Changing the tires does sound like a reasonable idea, but cheap Kenda’s aren’t too bad, have done several thousand K on them, and they will let you know when they are on their way out by flating a lot.

There are plenty of good factory wheels for much less than £350, Fulcrum 7’s for £115 or 5’s for £190 at Merlin. Not too keen on the Planet X wheels, have used several sets, and all had issues with the aluminium freehub, and cassettes gouging it.

For tires, plenty of choice, Planet X normally have good ones cheap, 23c is fine, and has much more choice than 25c

Try money from NI, even more variety than Scotish, and less chance of been accepted in the mainland

Fit and comfort should major priorities, for what to use; I’ve only been Audaxing this year, but have seen everything from good old 531 toruers, Alu, Ti, Bents, Trikes, Tandems and Moultons, its what you are comfortable with.

the most recent 600 I did there were guys on carbon road bikes who did it fine.

As long as it has braze-on’s for racks, mudguards, decent lights, and gearing, the frame material isn’t too important.

Currently I use a Planet X Ti Sportive, not perfect, but works, and occasionally a Salsa Vaya, which is a lot heavier, but with the right gearing keeps up with everyone.

Have you looked into the Kaffenback Mk2 (not out yet), this looks interesting with discs, and should be cheaper that the Vaya.

Windwave, as their the importers, but doubt they sell parts individually.

For brakes, prefer my 6600 brakes with 7800 STI to full 6700, they feel just a tiny bit sharper, but prefer the 6700 STI (which arn’t much different to the 5700’s) to the 7800 STI, keeping all the cable under the bar tape is a big +.

Wheels, there was a topic on this a few days ago, my personal preferance for factory wheels is Fulcrum, cheap, strong, and fairly light, for hand build, 6700 hubs on Open Pros would be nice.

Pentax, started with an MZ50, now have an K10, have looked at Nikon and Canon, yes they do far more lenes, but still prefer the feel of the Pentax to them, if any of the other felt better, would change.

Still seem to use a cheap Sony compact digital I got about 4 years ago more than anything.

6 months since I was there, but the XC routes still hadn’t recovered from the deforestation from about 5 years back, never been impressed by the Fat Traxs lot, have been riding on an off there since ’94 and they seem to want to be the voice of the area; as long as you are North Shore / Dual only

The Tortec are OK, but being Aluminium, put too much weight on it, it will bend, being as the OP was doing a shopping trip with it would suggest a Steel rack over Alu

If you look at a high quality rack like the Tubus Cargo it has 3 different points to attatch the back of the pannier to the front & middle being used most, these can take a lot of weight, 40kg, and if correctly mounted pretty indestructible. Have used Tubus racks Cargo, Logo & Fly for the last 4 years / over 25000km with no issues

Would steer away from Rigida Chrina rims, have been using one on the front for the last 8 months in all weather, about 6-7K with a lot of high speed wet decending, and it has a lot of wear, very concave, will be replaced it with an Open Pro CD for this winter

When using panniers, always check that they fit when loaded, you really need a long wheel base bike for this, any commuter or tourer with braze-on’s should be ok. Sounds like you are using a seatpost rack? Tubus, Nitto or Old Man Mountain racks are the way to go, bolted to the frame.

For rigid panniers, have a look at Bikebins[/url] saying that, have used paniers from Wiggle (DHB) Ortlieb and Vaude, and all have worked fine, but Ortlieb and Vaude were better quality, and last much longer
