Paniers, Ortlieb or Vaude, both high quality, made in Germany not China, the Ortliebs hold their value as well if you come to sell them later.

If you don’t have a rack already, Tubus are good, if you look on ebay.de you can find some combos of Vaude panniers and Tubus racks which are good value for money

Tires, Schwalbe Marathon Dureme Evo Ceramic, the smallest is 35mm, but they are very fast, not cheap though, Rose are normally the cheapest

None of this is cheap though (you said about paying a bit more for quality), and you will struggle to get good stuff for less than £100.

Being as the M Frame is still around 20ish years after it’s intro, doubt the Jawbone will be going anywhere soon.

Oakley don’t seem to discontinue too may sports specific designs, they don’t really have many designs out there, M Frames, Radar & 5 differnet Jacket version as well as the Jawbones.

For your broken O’s have your tried contacting Oakley UK for an out of warranty damage replacement, they will often do a good discount when you return the broken one to them?

In modern terms, guess it is, especially as we have a minium wage, if getting at least that minium wage then no.

Carbon wheels from china – reason why – cheap, why not – getting hit with import duty / vat, quality control, warranty or lack of, if you need to warranty , cost of sending back to China, resale, not good compared to a big brand.

Tubsvs clincher – for simple practicality, stick with clinchers, you can replace an innertube at the side of the road, changing a tub mean carrying a whole tire (tub) as replacement, if you have a support car following you at all times, go for the tub.

Handlebar width – have a look here[/url]for how to measure, there is also shape to consider, would to to a good road bike shop to see / feel the differences

The easiest thing to do is to order a new lid unit, this comes with new screws and diaphram, your LBS should have a Madison account, and will be able to tell is this is in stock with them

Order Shimano part Y8UW98010 Lid unit, when you have this

Take the screw out which isn’t rounded out, then break off the reservoir cap, once the cap is broken off, use a pair of pliers to grip onto and undo the rounded out screw.

Fit replacement lid unit, bleed and go ride!

I did this process with a M775 brake lever when I rounded out a screw, works fine now.

Without cadence, Cateye Strada, looks and works great, as long as you don’t need the clock function, have a couple, and they loose time very quickly.

With cadence, either the Double Strada, or Sigma BC1609STS Cadence, the Sigma is about £15 less.

Used it to remove a few races (thinking 5-10) it works, but does seem to like to take little chunks of the crowns with it as well, thinking the Park version would be better but at a much greater cost, The Park CRP-1 cost over £100, my Ice Tools version was about £10

    For off road

Belt drives, & internal gear hubs

The 26″ vs 29″ vs 32″ vs other wheel sizes debate will still be going on

Electric will be common for commuter/ comfort.

for the road, electric shifting will be common / standard, OLD wider than 130mm to get more than current 11 speed of Campag Super Record / 2013 Dura Ace

    Disc brakes common / standard

Integration, like ANT+ will be standard

For all bikes, lots and lots of Carbon Fiber.

For the size, have you looke at you current post? it should have the size stamped / etched on it, alternatlivly, get yourself a set of veriner calipers to measure it.

BB from Rose so cheap why not!

Rear mech as it has the clutch, but that should filter to SLX / XT with 2013/14 groupsets

The seller started it a 99p, and the market is deciding what it’s worth, good for the seller if they get over what you think is the going rate for it.

What’s the problem with 2nd chance offers?

I’ve used them often in the past where I have had a couple of duplicated items, if the 2nd highest bidder was good enough, it was easier to offer it as a 2md chance rather than list again, where it may or may not have made as much.

So you have paid £30, was it worth it to you? if your happy good, if it doesn’t turn up you can always claim off buyer protection.

Would look at what benefits it gives you, I used to stay in hotels alot with work, and got a Priority Club Visa, don’t stay in hotels anymore for work, but don’t pay for them either as I have enough points left for holidays for several years to come.

Nectar is good as well for Amex with points.

As long as you pay off each month, would go for what ever gives you the most points / credit that you are going to use; but also make sure you are going to use them before / if they expire.

The Parts guide is here but how old are your shifters? if under 3 years, they are still under warranty, why not just send / take them back to where ever you got them from for service.

What make? if Shimano, find the part number from the tech docs, and google it for shops that sell them online, Petra Cycles or SJS come to mind.

Didn’t the bike shop you got it from do a pre delivery inspection? would be taking it back and geting them to check for what else they have missed.

Google maps? works as a really basic route planner, street view is useful to confirm if roads are really roads or tracks. write the route on paper, no technology to go wrong with out in the middle of nowhere.

Single or multiple days, 350 miles in a single day isn’t really doable unless very high speed & no stopping even for a comfort breaks.

are you sure you have got your menauerments right? 24.5mm isn’t a standard handlebar bike size, unless you have a Batavus folder.

Planet X, had a Pro Carbon for 3 year now, no issues with it. not keen on the Model B wheels thou, had used these before, have had issues with cassetes digging into the freehub splines, and as I had a spare set of Fulcrum 5’s from a stall project, stuck the Model B’s on ebay before riding the bike.

Using Look Keo’s, was using the Red (9°), but found there was too much movement, have moved to the Grey (4.5°) which feel nicer. If you have Look pedals, these are the ones with come as standard with retail packaged pedals.

Was out last night, considering how bad the weather was, we had a good turnout of 8. for the riding, I do enjoy it more when it’s dry, but you have to take what the weather / conditions give you.

Trail Rat – The Op did say the car was just bought, so unless the OP’s definition of ‘just’ is in a time frame of years, would take that to be with in the last few weeks.

If buying a used car from a trader, be it dealer or indpendant, it should be working, and as a consumer you have the rights to this, where it must be fit for purpose, in this case, with the limited info, it obviously wasnt, quoating from Trading Stadards ‘Remember, used cars may have some faults, but they should not be excessive.’ From Trading Standards

would consider £1000 to fix excessive

If buying from an individual, that different.

There is an article on this in this months Car Mechanics mag, from the seller (indy dealer) perspective, and all the rights were with the buyer.

The garage should fix, otherwise contact local trading standards
