Of course, if the proprietor said “I’m not letting you in because you’re blind/black/gay etc” then it would be grounds for an offence. therefore, they can just say “I’m not letting you in”.

Don’t know why you’d not let a guide dog in though.

If I had my time again, I’d of knuckled down at school.

This. but I still hanker after paramedic-dom.

But reaching cross roads at the moment, so trying to figure out the next move!

traps – don’t agree with poison, and they do end up dying in hard to reach places. the usual poison is designed to thin the blood, which in turn makes them feel cold, so they end up dead in a nice, warm place – ready to stink to high heaven. We had quite a lot in the pub when we first got it, mainly due to poor hygene with previous tenants – took about 4 months to get rid.

if it’s in a she @ the end of the garden, I’d either leave em be or use a trap – then you know when you’re getting the better of them.

aaah – 10 very good years spent in brighton (now in the witterings).

    pubs:
    Shakespeares head (7 dials)
    Lion & Lobster (hove)
    The Hampton
    The BasketMakers (north Laine)

    breakfast:
    7bees cafe (The Lanes)
    Bills (in town)
    Billies Cafe (montpellier)

    Fun:
    Palace Pier
    Wakeboarding cable park – hovelagoon
Stanmer PArk – home of the brighton big dog and some excellent riding

Brighton is ace – but mostly these dyas it’s shops, booze and food – all of which is very excellent. I’d take your bike and maybe get in touch with the fine folkd at brighton MTB – they do a night ride each week and will show you some lovely riding….

I’ve got one – had it a few weeks. I like it and it’s a welcome departure from the ip4 – I just got a little weary of all things apple. speech recognition is excellent.
    camera is pants.
go for the 32gb, as it seems that androidn is a little more storage hungry than IOS.
    screen excellent.
battery life has improved massively since I got it – is it learning it’s parameters? I leave home at 0830 and get home from work @ 2330 most days, and it’s usually got 25% left when I hit the hay – though I’m not on it all day (publican).
maps/search/browsing/apps all better than the ip4 i had before.
    light
feels like it might be a bit more fragile than the 4

bloody good value all told, especially on a sim only plan – managed to sell my ip4 for £150 too!

ps mine is a bit more emotional/hormonal than normal, so just have to remember to not take things to heart as you’ll be king of the universe a few hours later without having perceivably done anything different!

Don’t think most blokes really think much about it until the baby actually arrives.
True – it’s abstract for 9 months, then suddenly you’re handed this baby.

This is how I feel – 5 months in and while interested, it doesn’t get anywhere near filling my head with continuous thought.

Was worried it was just me but turns out every dad and expectant dad I spoke to feels/felt the same. phew.

    sure it’ll all change soon!

lots faster. road bikes do beg to be ridden hard with higher gearing, but on an uppy downy route most people with reasonable fitness would be averaging 18mph ish. too many many factors to consider, but essentially the answer to your question is yes. it will be substantially quicker.

he’s a miniture poddle put on a king charles spaniel.

He’ll end up size of a small cocker if he shapes up anything like his big sister from previous litter.

I am amazed at how quickly I’ve become incredibly attached to him, he’s my little buddy 🙂

can’t wait to do bike rides in the next year….

    he’s my first pooch. 🙂

I have a friend who got one, an Australian doodle, about spaniel sized and totally brilliant, though a little silly. Have spoken to a pro about it, she recommended a cockapoo as its a nice size and tends to be a little bit less bonkers. Looking for breeders in the south now for a spring time puppy all being well. All over it now, I’ve wanted a dog for so many years and I’m finally in a position to get one.

Thanks for all the posts, looks like they are highly regarded in general.

flashy – totally agree – hence the want for a small, friendly, non territorial dog that gets socialized from day one (which is why I’m not interested in rescues).

ps – I’ll happily buy you a pint if you pop down – would be great to see you. Badger and Sussex currently on.

SOrry for the radio silence on this – as those of you in the business will know, it’s been a bloody busy week, so as much as I love STW, it’s been on the backburner for a few days….

Thanks for the messages of good luck – weirdly it’s really nice to have a bit of good feeling to help in those ohmygodwhathaveigoneanddone moments.

we got the keys a week ago, closed for two days, painted lots of stuff, sanded down tables, bought a little bit of new furniture, built, what I think is probably the most kick ass wine rack I’ve ever seen, and opened to the public.

    We’ve been busy 🙂

Took on board the STW comments re the menu – so altered it based on feedback from here other sources feedback – of course you were all completely correct!

    http://www.thelambwittering.co.uk/#/daily-menu/4569934398

Bottom line – it’s all great – I’ve not worked hours like these since my first summer season, but I’m loving it – the most varied thing I’ve ever done, with something scary happening most days, but I *think* it’s actually gonna be a cracker.

just as an FYI, my head chef is truly, truly awesome. he won a michelin star at his previous big restaurant, and via a long story is helping us out for a few months – a shameless plug – it’s bloody good food – come and see us! more pics soon, but I have some barrels to tap right now.

former london bike shop chain employee here.

    Flashy is, of course correct.

If you want to be your own boss, work hard then I would say it’s possible. but bear in mind that you will 100% need to employ someone if you’re planning on getting any spannering done.

I’d say there is still a big market for bike maintenance in London, but accessibility, and the ability to do the work will be your biggest hurdles – how do you look after customers, sell them stuff, take money, make sure people aren’t coming in nicking stuff (believe me, bike shops in london have a nightmare with this, and still get through the pile of knackered old bikes that people bring in?

oh that’s another thing. don’t think you’ll be working on nice bikes. 90% of them will be seized, ****, bent and take a huge amount of time to put right. then your customer will balk when you tell them a drivetrain replacement will cost the £100.

However, you will meet lots of nice folk, play with bikes, fix stuff, feel good about yourself and learn about a new industry. Please don’t think it’s easy, though, cos it ain’t!

yup used one to maintain strength when I was in a sling for a couple of months (busted shoulder).

good for that but not used it since – think I gave it to a mate who used it for recovery of his injury.

Been jobless for three weeks now – first time for me to be out of work in my life.

got a bit of money so things not desparate yet but have been looking at lots of different options over the past few weeks. I wanted to get out, so in a way it’s good, but then the pressure does start to come on that you need to find some income soon.

personally, I make sure the telly doesn’t go on in the mornings. if you want to be unproductive, then it’s far better to get out on your bike/walk/surf/whatever – but don’t fall into the black hole that is daytime TV.

stay away from beer and pies as a matter of course – though no harm in partaking when with friends.

get in touch with mates and pop round houses – you’ve got the time – make the effort!

make the most of downtime – if you’ve sent off all the applications you could for the day, get outside and enjoy yourself. once you do get an interview you’ll appear much more employable if you look happy and healthy as opposed to a pie eating loose women addict.

If you’ve got enough of a payout to pay the bills proper, then consider getting a fun job (like flashy said). money may be shite, but it’s gets you around people and you will enjoy yourself.

I’m undecided yet on jobs – I have applied for some, and also have some plans to start something on my own.

Anyways, keep busy, if you’re not busy, do something wholesome, and try doing something fun, even if tyhe money is shit.

Ebay will usually side with the buyer – but since it’s not a paypal dispute the water is a bit muddier in terms of how they could get money back.

depends how much you value your feedback score.

Main job is non physical, but also started working in a very busy town centre boozer.

it has sapped my energy to ride, but prob will get used to it and then get back in the saddle.

Tell you what, people working in big busy pubs earn every frickin penny of the minimum wage they get!

My parents always look a little confused when I arrive back home in Holmfirth and can’t get over the quality of the tap water up north.

Brighton tap water is rank, but I’m a bit de-sensitized to it after 10 years.

water softeners and filters are all well and good, but simply too faffy for me.

attitude of the seller (though to be fair we havn’t actually seen the emails he sent either) not very good – however the damage doesn’t look world ending either – take it to a cannondale dealer, get them to tell you the score, and if it’s no bother/fixable for a few quid, strike the seller from your xmas card list and move on.

for me, I think it’s a case of live and learn. taking this to small claims will be very hard, considering the layman/magistrate probably won’t see a small crack in a used frame as much of a big deal.
