toss up between the Stumpy and Trek 8000/8500. I'd try both and see which one hurts you more! Awesome, sorted, fast XC bike.

I've got a brand new one – £10 posted – seriously, never been on a bike, bought off CRC a month ago.

    interested?

Is there not some super easy, oil-less method of doing it, where you just release all pressure from the air springs, undo the top cap on the airspring leg, slowly push the fork down to reveal the internals, then remove the relevant spacer?

I think the SRAM method is a little labour intensive and would require replacement oil and all sorts of circlip pliers etc…

Yes. I did it that way – get lots of oil on the uppers threads, and carefully push the piston up thorugh the top of the fork. dead easy, thought you do need to release the piston from the base of the fork to get it out.

I ddi it the pikey way cos I didn't have any circlip pliers!

yeah they do seem a bit fat, but they quickly seem to sort themselves out. give it a rides worth and it'll be fine.

I'd say the best training for enduro MTB would be, er, enduro MTB.

totally agree with you – did a sportive last month and it bored me to tears.

Head for hills and make your training FUN!

p.s. as an aside, I sent an email to the hope people, and Nick gave me a call this morning to see what they could do. said to post the bearings over to them to have a look, and if they are dodgy, he'd send some more FOC.

Can't fault the service from these guys.

hmmm. had a look. looks like bearings. have to say a little dissappointed at bearing life to be honest.

aaah my home town! Sadly though, I hadn't started riding really until I arrived in the south of england, where the, er, proper mountains are.

Would like to find some riding round that way though next time I'm up to see the folks.

Get in touch with the guys at http://www.morvelo.com

They put on this – http://www.brightonbigdog.com last year and it was a sell out then, and has now sold out (I think) for 2010 too. Ace event.

OP – St Georges day on friday wasn't it?

While I wouldn't put them on my van, I wish people could could be a bit more proud of our flag without fear of being called either a chav or a racist/BNP fan.

Phoned the guys at cyclesolutions who explained that i don't have to buy a bike at all so i could buy anything upto a total of £1000 as long as the kit was in there list of cycle to work related products.

CycleSolutions on sticky ground there. HMRC don't like that approach….

to the sacking/re-employing – sounds very dodgy to me.

to the dangerous activities contracts – I'm on the same.

yeah – small lump, but not too bad. painful when moved in certain directions. Happily being on a bike is no problem (crash was practice day, raced on sunday with a ton of ibuprofen)

    I reckon it's pretty mild.

will see how I go on this week – predictably I've got a lot of roadshows on this week meaning plenty of lifting!

Crash was just landing on my shoulder after going over the bars.

Looking forward to slinging them back on my bike. Ace tyres. oodles of grip in the dry, surprisingly good in the wet, and fast fast fast in the dry!

Offence – junction of Dyke road and old shoreham road, about 11:15pm ignored a red light, bunny hopped onto pavement while riding without lights.

I just hope I can still do half decent bunny hops, in the dark when i'm 53 😀

I've been fined in brighton for riding along the (desserted) esplanade on a rainy october afternoon.

I questioned them why this was such a priority, and basically it's what they get the most complaints from from residents. Ironically there have been three drug related murders within 500 yards of my flat in the past 2 years.

Brighton police have been tasked with getting cyclists to obey the rules, which is fair enough, but I do feel that they get priorities wrong while they try to appease the complainers of Brighton.

To be fair I should really put in a complaint about the drug related murders in the area and something might get done!

Where was the wheel sized ditch?

fast open descent before the river/bottom of lake crossing. top of the descent had some rooty bits to pop off and then 2/3 of the way down a ditch – you could probably jump it if you knew it was there….Wasn;t really bad, but obviously it caught one or two people out….

no warning signing on that stupid wheel sized ditch at the bottom of the flat out open descent, it eventually claimed a victim mid afternoon.

I know the exact one you're talking about – I had a very, very close call with that one on my last lap. thank god for decent brakes!

with hindsight, you needed something that coped with dry fire roads, soft earthy grass, hub deep gloop, slippy roots and greasy, semi dry clag.

If someone owns a tyre that does this, please let me know.

Mixed feelings about the event. good to kick off the season, but not the best organised, and pretty expensive.

I'll be there with work. But I'll just be racing in a pretty relaxed team. Looking forward to it!

go easy on him. I don't know the situation, but as time passes it gets harder and harder to make contact. At least he's made the first move.

Not been in that situation myself though, so I'm completely unqualified to offer any advice.

about as good as it gets in the dry. very grippy, and versatile. pump em up hard to go fast, run em soft for traction. lots of volume too, so very comfy on a hardtail.

I love em, can't wait to stick them back on my bike for the summer.

nothing wrong with it – in all honesty will probably taste better for hanging around for a few days.

    hmmm.

it's hard to fault an orange 5se with a maxle upgrade at the rear. for that money – beautiful bikes, though not the cheapest for what you get IMO.

for that money, I'd be getting my bike shop to be rolling out the red carpet and getting some serious discounts on upgrades.

how about an ST4? those are bloody good fun too….

I really have never seen something quite so bleak in my life.

When is Penhydd closing as going up there this weekend and was hoping to do that one??

believe it's open this weekend – does it close around the 7-11th I believe. I hope so as I'm up there this weekend and never done penhydd, and would love to before it shuts.

I'm quite interested to see that no-one has denied doing this

I think they were ignoring it.

    But since you ask…
Truth is, I do both. mostly I ride locally, because it's there, but it's also great to explore further afield.

As I said before – no everyone can't live like the hobbit guy, but it does show people that they can do small things to lesson their impact.

Not sure why you hate this guy so much. Did he build his house on your land?

Energy cant be destroyed we will always have the same amount.

you're right. however, for energy to be in a form that we can use with current technology, it's got to be in fossil fuels.

    Here's a fact:

The fossil fuels we use each year took the earth 3 million years to make. it doesnt take a rocket scientist to work out that if we use a resource 3 million times quick than it can be produced, we're in trouble.

While the guys who built this house are an extreme, it does show a number of things everyone can adopt which might help slow our march towards an energy crisis, and may buy us some time while we figure out some alternative energy sources.

Wonder how easy planning permission was

sounds like they don't apply for permission – just do it and hope that no one complains – after a period of time permission is automatically granted…
