We had a team dog last year. No bother, though playing fetch at 3am gets boring (not for the dog).

I'm with barnsley mitch. GB rocks. Every society has these sorts of problems. It's how you deal with them that matters, and in many places nothing would have been done, there would have been nothing to help the kid in this situation. Yes, things go wrong (baby P etc), but all in all, Things are handled well.

I think most of us (me included) have no idea how lucky we are to live in the UK

Kiteboarding is the sport when it's windy. Biking when it's not.

They compliment eachother very well 😀

I guess he saw red and wanted to have words – don't really blame him.

Drivers who use their car as a weapon need to be taken off the road. There is no difference from walking round threatening people with a knife, a gun or any other lethal weapon. Doesn't matter if he actually intended to hurt the guy or not.

After the first swerve into the cyclist, I'd have held back and then got the rozzers in.

Scary that people like that are on the roads.

    Quick releases?

I thought i'd ruined another bottom bracket, but turned out was actually the QR's. with the creak transmitting down the tubes! Worth a try. Apparently Hopes are known for it.

Tiny bit of grease fixed it for me.

bingo! I now have a stealth bike again. (apart from the hope freehub)

Why do some people call you unpatriotic because you feel Germany would be a better team to support?

because it's unpatriotic? (unless you're German)

I care – true I don't follow footy domestically, but I get excited about the world cup. and the olympics, and the RWC, and the six nations. Love it all.

I really don't get whingy posts like this – if you hate it that much, get on your bike and ride it somewhere where there are not tellys (it might even be deserted, save for other unhappy, scowling football hating members of STW, but you'll probably get along fine)

    Come on Engerland!!!!

nothing wrong with responsibly owning a shotgun.

sounds like this chap never showed any signs he might do something like this, so very hard to legislate against.

He could have gone around with a knife, a car, poison, acid – he chose a gun. The real issue is that he flipped, for whatever, reason, picked up his guns and killed several people.

Sadly I think without robbing the entire population of it's freedom, tragedies like this will happen from time to time. No one/thing is to blame except the guy doing the killing.

none. I think the only time I'd wear them is for knee warming duties, though to be honest, my riding isn't heroic enough to warrant knee pads!

Great event, shame about the rain though.

I have one complaint though: £5 for a rather small burger – WTF???! Get rid of the fancy rip-off food and get the previous food vans back please.

My burger was £3….. To be fair though it was only an after race treat as I'd have brought it straight back up if I'd have eaten stuff like that while racing….

I thought it was nice having the drop off there – makes a nice change from the usual festival style trailers. Also liked the bean bags in the red bull tent.

If I wanted to get really niggly, perhaps a bigger timing screen to see your results?

For me, however, it's still the only course (bar, possibly the brighton big dog) I've done where I came off every lap grinning like a stupid fool. This year proved that can be just as good in the rain.

    Bring on next year!

yes cracking event. I wondered last year what the course would be like in the wet, and it was still excellent. I'll be back next year!

520s if you ask me – cheap, adjustable, and have a very positive click in, unlike Crank Bros.

And they're usually about 20, and they will last forever.

OK decision made. High rollers it is, I'll just have to crank the bike over a bit more, which wouldn't be a bad thing!

+1 for the m520s – amazing bit of engineering – commuted usuing a pair for 5 years, did nothing to them, still work a treat – why pay more?

    Gore ride on cables

small block 8s (at least in the dry)

Any bit of Gore clothing i've ever had.

you can get a reducer headset that goes from 1.5 to 1 1/8. Chris King do em I believe.

starts to sound like a bit of a faff though, esp as the spesh fork was sort of integral to the whole 'system integration' marketing bollocks that I completely fell for.

I'd be looking for one with forks though.

Only bit I wasn't too keen on last year was the photographer right by one of the drops in the final bit of woods, a flash going off in your face every lap just as you're about to drop in got a bit annoying (and didn't seem to produce that good a photo as everyone had a surprised wide eyed look on their face!)

Am now really pretty excited about this event, especially as the weather looking like it might hold for the weekend!

shame the woods after the grassy descent are missed out this year – I liked that bit! *struggle to think who bothers cheating at these events*
    🙄

Really, really looking forward to it now though, esp as the weather is now looking good again!

dont go with a tour op – it's pretty much one of the only weeks they make a decent profit save easter, xmas and NY, and they charge the earth (I used to do the pricing!)

My recommendation is to go independantly, hire a car, stay somewhere 5k out of a main resort and drive in to ski each day.

If you want to be in a resort, then find a smallish one, and you might get a bargain – La Clusaz is nice.

    same doctors same qualis.

shorter waiting times, though if you *need* an op on your collarbone, there should be a maximum wait of 16 weeks(16 week patient pathway – something Labour did sterling job on when they were in) from when you broke it, though they often do collarbones a lot quicker as it will heal better the fresher the break is.

TBH, I'd go NHS – nothing wrong with the care you'll receive, just the bureaucrats can make it difficult to get the care you need.

isnt it just riding round a field in the rain for 24 hours?

only in the same way a football match is only watching 22 blokes kicking a bag of air around for 90 minutes.

without getting too cheesy, Mayhem is definately more than the sum of its parts. Yes, it's not a ride I'd choose to do for the sheer fun of it, but more of a annual re-union for some good mates.

    I can't wait!

Thanks chaps – it was the southern XC round 2 at pippingford – fairly technical, short course XC race. It was also the first time i've done this type of racing, so I suspect that may have have something to do with it.

I drive a desk, but spend at least a couple of days a week walking/riding round london or stood up talking to people.

saddle was set a little lower than I would normally to allow for the more techy bits of the course.

Pain is definately muscular, but I reckon the cure is probably a large dose of MTFU!

Will look for some stretching exercises…..

hmmm. taping out your areas, it does smack a bit of sunbed bagging. despitwe having some of our team local, we won't be doing it, and if I were the organiser I'd pull up any areas that had been staked out. The size of some teams reserved spaces was ridiculous last year.

yeah course rocked – lots of fun, though the heat made it very hard work.
