I have a close friend who is schizophrenic who is heavily involved in theories like these. My response is always, what can I do and what effect will my actions have? I get accused of being a tourist of my own life, but I argue if I can’t change something, I’m better off not knowing.

My old lodger does this. Funny how it’s almost always men protesting/praying. Funilly enough he did nothing to support children that were alive and living in poverty, did nothing for kids at his church, did nothing for kids around the world. But that’s the joy of religion, you can force your prejudice onto others and blame you imaginary friend. Personally I think harassing vulnerable women over his religious beliefs makes him a terrorist.

I was 2 hours late home as some second rate football was happening and therefore the entire city comes to a standstill in every direction.

I bought posh desserts, which were too rich, I bought special juice (she doesn’t drink), it was “insipid” and apparently the message in my card implied i was cheating on her?

Get some cheap gloves from sports direct. Bags wreck em and they’ll stink if you’re working hard enough!

My mum lives in France. Law an local govt is a nightmare, but she uses a website called angloinfo that deals with everything from French lessons to translating official documents. She finds it pretty handy. A friend of mine also lives in France, spent every night in the bar, was fluent in a year.

I have a garmin watch, I bought a speed and cadence sensor as I’d wanted one for ages and it feels silly running a cycle computer, strava on the phone and my watch doing HR. I have a dumb trainer and a mac book pro, bought an ANT stick for £9.99 good to go. Only negative is Zwift thinks I have an FTP of 3.9. I don’t, its more like 2, 2.5 at best but it doesn’t really matter as all my training is against me anyway and i focus more on heart rate and cadence for my training.

Generally first, but make it clear it’s first person to collect else you’ll get muppets. Our house had a basement full of late night tv advert fitness machines. About 10, probably quite expensive but no use to me so went on free cycle. Everyone wanted delivery, or would show up in a Peugeot 106 to collect a van load of stuff, and demand i “hold” the rest for them.

Loads of people not showing up for stuff, I guess if it’s free hey don’t value it?

I stopped using it as it was just too much hassle, mind you, I did get a 2nd hand toilet macerater for
Free (barely used!) which saved me £350!

Forza 4 and a steering wheel, which won’t work with my Xbox one and is for sale if you fancy it? Probably best to pick up in Leeds though as it’s a bulky did!

Failing that, GTA 5, fallout 3/new vegas, battlefield 3 ( better than COD imo), Lego Star Wars.

I’m James in work as when we had names on our uniform I got a couple of shirts off another member of staff who was called James. Outside of work I’m jim or Jimmy. I tried being jim when I started a new job but when said on the phone, my full name sounds a bit like Jameel, and people started asking for jameel when they rang so with my current role I’ve reverted to James. My kids were deliberately given names that they can abbreviate, spell and pronounce however they like, seems only fair to let them have their own identity.

Mind you, I remember getting into a fight at school over whether a girl was called Cheryl (sh rill) or Cheryl (che rill) I eventually concluded that her mum was illiterate. Looking back I might have been a bit of a jumped up little excrement, and if not a name nazi, perhaps a name communist?

15 years in YAS here, mostly Leeds and Bradford, then HQ etc.

Bradford is a far bigger dump than you can ever imagine. However, for ambulance work it is excellent as every job is either “there is nothing wrong with you, stop calling!” Or “How are you not dead yet”! You’ll see more trauma/ bizzare medical cases in Bradford than anywhere. Its also one of the most diverse areas outside of London, that brings its own challenges, but I always enjoyed working there as it is so different to everywhere else!

If you’d like more YAS-Tastic info feel free to message me.

    Don’t move to Bradford though.

Small point… He’s not the Police’s race relations officer… he sat on a panel a few times looking at ways of helping the police engage better with the BAME community in Bristol. Bit like saying I’m a doctor as I go to meetings with doctors.

But anyway, disproportionate force from the police. The victim was being stand offish and obstructive, and could have handled it better, but the thing is, he is legally entitles to be stand offish, obstructive and a bit of dick. none of those things are illegal. Annoying for officers who are trying to do a job,but not actually illegal. Police officers in the UK are better than most in the world, and part of the not being armed thing is that they develop people skills and learn to handle situations without resorting to the “do as i say or I’ll shoot” approach that some American officers have.

I guess the concern is, with tasers becoming increasingly wider issued, its easier to reach for a weapon when your people skills are exceeded, as in this case.

Former NHS employer bought a couple of thousand AED’s (defibs). Ancillaries were expensive so bought thousands of defib pads and batteries from a different supplier. Of course, non compatible!.

Same employer in the late 90s when through a project of building new ambulance stations with roller shutters that closed automatically to save vital seconds. Early 2000’s spanked millions on a new fleet of super ambulances that wouldn’t fit through the doors of the modern stations.

Disposable suction filters that didn’t fit our suction machines? check
“New” cheaper syringes that were a different size to cannula ports and so couldn’t be used to give injections? check
I could go on and on and on, but now I work for an acute trust and its even worse!

I don’t really see why it’s anything to do with Bradford, what with it happening in Huddersfield, armed officers being based in Wakefield and the chap living in Huddersfield!

Since I’ve been living in Yorkshire I can think of 6 un armed officers being shot by criminals (2 fatally) and 2 armed criminals being shot by armed officers (1fatally). Any comparison to America is ridiculous. There will rightly be an investigation and the officer involved will come under a lot of scrutiny. But these officers are trained to make a decision and the officer made the decision that the police were at risk and took the shot.

Having been supported by armed police numerous times when I was at risk from armed assailants, one thing that amazed me was their reserve. I’ve only ever seen them draw weapons once, and that involved a samurai sword…

nothing wrong with carbolite, its just cheap steel is all. Be wary of PX series bikes… a lot of bikes came in that livery (I’ve got an old peugeot in the chequered livery hung on my wall, bought for £30).

old retro bikes are fun, I had a reynolds 535 frame bulit up with full dura ace, currently my turbo trainer bike is a Vitus peugeot, i had a nice reynolds peugeot frame that had been repainted (over the reynolds sticker) that I lent to a friend and never saw again.

old steel frames are a pleasure to ride, if y’re fussy you can fit STI shifters but down tube shfters are fine once you get used to them. when i ride my carbon aero bike I feel I have to justify it to myself, so its full lycra, long, fast rides, being “pro”. Old steel bikes are for pottering and dawdling and then going very very fast with poor brakes.

My sister in law bought us a bin, as ours “isn’t big enough”. Apparently we now need to replace our normal size, cream metal bin that fits neatly in the space i built for it with a huge, turquoise, plastic bin which wont fit in the gap. She also bought us vegan chocolates and got our boys juice boxes, so not all bad. If you’re a slightly thirsty vegan.

Any contact adhesive will work, carpet shops/ DIY/ Supermarkets etc. I found trim fix type stuff a bit crappy TBH, the only benefit being it didn’t soak the fabric making it feel stiff or rough, but so long as you’re careful any glue will work.

After a year or so when the “official” trim adhesive failed, I just used standard carpet glue that I painted on. Where I was worried I’d soak it, I painted a thin layer on, let it dry to a plastic like finish then glued that to the ply.

I used it quite a bit as I worked from home, stationary went through expenses and there was a guitar shop next door. Always found it about twice the price of online stationary providers and often didn’t have what i wanted. I’m not sure who they were for as any sensible business would be online and prices were too high for a highstreet store.

I might be able to help here a bit… I run http://www.facebook.com/starguitarleeds a little hobby thing where I buy buy old guitars, fix em up and then share them out on a pay as you feel basis, with all money raised going back into the project. I’ve got a few 3/4 nylon strung guitars in at the moment, and will soon have a 3/4 size electric fixed up and ready for action too. Not only do i line in Leeds, which is quote close, but I work in Huddersfield (at HRI) which is even closer!

let me know if you fancy some cheap guitars?

I did inglebrough once, started climbing at about 4am, descent by 7 as the sun came up to avoid as many walkers as possible. Was fun to say I’d done it, but was a drag pulling a DH bike up a hill for 3 hours for a 15 min ride. Probably more fun on CX bike as above.
