dont have the crown race off the original forks due to being told you need to keep the crown race with the forks. so assumed as im not fitting those forks i dont need it.

tinsy ygm at your work account :o)
now you mention it about the crown race, i know that the frame the old Tora's came off had a built in head set (or integrated might be a better word) The frame i am fitting them to now has a (what i'd call it) propper head set fitted so that could be why im having issues then.

wow thanks for the quick replies, i was still edting the post he he (correcting my grammer etc)

ahhhh i didn't know crown races were headset specific!!! i think its a cane creek headset, basically its a decathlon frame which has either had that head set put on or it came with a cane creek head set.

ill double check bearing set up.

I brought a 2008 frame second hand from someone on this forum and have been chatting to Stuart at Pipedream about touchup paint etc for the bike and the response has been swift and always informative. I now know i have a Ruby Red Sirius and even the paint code should i need to get it made up :o)
The bike itself rides great and looks the muts nuts once built up.

    Hope this helps.

I know there is a big ride every Tuesday night at 7 from Grips bike shop in Rayleigh. I am not sure where they go but the past few weeks ive seen 10+ mtb riders outside the shop all tooled up and ready to go.
May be worth giving the shop a call to find out more info. I may tag along one week to see what its like.

Apart from that i am one of the group that goes out with tinsy at the weekends on a local loop that starts near Belfairs Woods and finishes in Old Leigh, its a nice little ride for where we live but im keen to ride other routes in Essex.

    Hi nedrapier

Got back from our day and a half riding on Sunday evening. Drove up Friday night and headed out early on Saturday morning to do the Edge ride (gunnerside gill & fremington edge) what a ride that was! very hard physically we did try and cycle up fremington edge but once the tarmac ran out we walked the rest but the downhills made it worth it espically the fast descent into gunnerside. And the descent into Langthwaite from fremington edge.
Whilst out Saturday we stopped in at the Dales Bike Center and spoke to Stu who told us a great ride to do Sunday morning which involved heading up the road just past the CB Inn to barnard castle then turn right at the second bridal path (just after the cattle grid) and climb up the ridge and over it and then there was a brilliant 3-4 mile fast swooping winding descent into Hurst where we picked up the langthwaite descent from The Edge ride again.

Hope to do it again next year as i had a great time.

Have to agree with all the posts on here as someone who has holiday'd up there for nearly 20yrs man and boy.
Id also like to reccomend a visit or stay in the village of Reeth and a visit to either the Punch Bowl(in Low Row) and or the CB Inn (just outside Langthwaite) for fine food. And a drive across the Butter Tubs Pass has to be done!

I will be up there next weekend myself for my first taste of riding the dales off road!

should have added i am not planning on covering the whole bike just the usual rub points and maybe the down tube.

But thanks for all the advice.

So it sounds like we cant really go wrong with either then :o)

I suppose the grading is just the websites way of doing it as there is no dedicated trail centre (sorry dales bike centre) like there is in wales etc to mark out the routes and grade them as id assume you are just following bridal ways/green lanes and footpaths.

Thanks teagirl. There are 4 of us are heading up there next weekend to try it out, we will be based just outside Reeth. I know the area really well as its been a holiday destination of my familys for the past 20 odd years but ive never ever ridden up there so cannot wait!

Why the castle bolton ride over the others?

    Hi Stu

Thanks for the post we will pop in to get some route advice when we get up there. And to try a cake of course :o)

I have been into the shop, it was earlier on in the year i popped in with my girlfriend and i think spoke to you about route maps and at the time you were getting them printed. I think its great what you guys are doing up there and its something the area has needed for a while. Im very envious as i wish it was something i could do.

Ive been going up there for 20 odd years and love it, i know the CB very well as we stay at a cottage at CB Yard (opposite the powder house) so have spent many a drunken night in the CB and ive enjoyed a few drinks in the red lion as well.

Thanks for the pics DeeJay ooooo! those winter ones look cold.

We are going to pop into the Dales MTB centre while we are up there as my folks popped in there 2 weeks ago (on their summer hols) to ask about maps and he had run out. Plus i want to try some of these cakes!! :o)

I noticed on the websites id found that the Fremington Edge and Gunnerside Gill routes kept coming up as ones to do, i have walked along the top of Fremington Edge and up and down gunnerside gill. Id presume the MTB routes follow the same walks i probably have done.

Also anyone know of a good route that includes Tan Hill?

Also ive not heard of Apedale Road

tinsy im in negotiations to get myself a pipedream sirius frame but will have to take pretty much everything off my current bike for the new one.

soobalais i dont really have a specific list of parts (make wise) i want as long as they are not rubbish and fall apart after 1 ride (which for less than £100 for the whole lot i dont know if ill get much)and work with each other.
The frame is in good nick i dont want it sitting there doing nothing and i have been after a bike for my GF for a while just a cheap run about for sunday afternoons so thought instead of spending £100+ on somethign new or second hand from ebay/bike shops why dont i just build up my current one on a budget.

The main word here is budget, she didnt like my original plan of spending upto £250 on a bike for her which i can understand as it wont be used week in week out and said she was happy with some old jalopy for £20 scrap second hand but i couldnt bring myself to get her that so we have reached a comprimise on price. Hence the £100!
I have posted a WTD ad in the classifieds as well.

got a swift reply from Stuart at Pipedream:

We have new frames arriving in about 1 month's time. They are in fact made from Reynolds 725 tubing which is similar to 631. There will be 2 models – 1 with regular dropouts and 1 with sliding dropouts. Price will be £250 but if you pre-order by making a small deposit then the price will be £225.

At the moment we have none of the standard frames in stock and unfortunately I cannot tell you when they will be back in stock.

Fantastic looking bike Northen Dan. Thanks for posting much appreciated.
I think im either going to go for the Sirius or the Breath.

IvanDobski ive also emailed Pipedream, they have an offer on at the mo £225 for a 631 steel Sirius as well as £199 for the normal version so asked them is this the new model or just a one off special and ive also asked them about the new line of frames and if they have any info on prices and also this 50% off you mentione…..and breathe!

Once i hear back ill post on here for you all to see….or not to see if i get nothing :o)
Thanks again to everyone who has posted. Keep posting, the more info and pics the better for me.

Cool thanks for the correction, what is the difference between the 456 and the standard inbred? is it one is set up for bigger forks?
I looked at the rock lobster 853 but its just out of my price range :o( and has a similar top tube size as my focus.

wow cheers for the replys guys, just to let you know a little bit more about my current set up and riding, i have 100mm 2009 Rock Shox Reba SL's on my current bike and mainly ride trail, single track, X country routes with the odd trip to Wales and have a trip planned for the Dales next month.
Im 5ft11 and find my current focus with a top tube size of 23" a little bit short which isnt a bad thing as it doesnt make the ride uncomfortable but when going down hill a little top heavy because im sitting more upright.

In answer to KINGTUT's question, i am no expert with frames i hear steel gives you a better ride these days but i doubt ill be able to tell also there are a few bits on my frame i dont like e.g v brake knobs on the rear, and im bored with it looks wise so fancy a change.

It seems ive chosen 3 good frames to buy now i have to decide which one.
