I’d say the sweets pot is stopping the opportunist with a ground anchor and a chain etc and not drawing attention to what you have in there. The Pro thievs are quite happy to do a lot of damage to get what their after. A friend of mine had his French windows ripped out of the wall with a winch or somthing so they could get all the big stuff out while he was on holiday. He came back to a 9 foot hole in the side of his house.

    Anything with wheat in it.

Started this a year ago to see of it helped with my IBS. A year later I’m not sure it has. But I generally feel a lot better and my Colestol has halved. Turns out that just happens when you’re not eating anything wrapped in pastery, battered or stuck to a biscuit! so I’m sticking with it.
I have introduced a bit of sourdough though, that seems fine.

I just saw your post, ha, they must have my clamp :) but that’s great info.
I found a few other posts, it sounds like nost Genisis steel frames of that time were shipping with 29.8mm clamps.
So I think i’ve got it now. I probably need a 29.8mm or a 30mm clamp but I ordered a 31.8mm clamp (twice form different sellers) which arrived with 34 stamped on them for no apparent reason. I’ve ordered a 30mm this time. Fingers crossed

I guess, but I was very polite about it at the time and entirely ready for them to tell me I was mistaken and recommend the correct part for me etc. But they said they’d check, then confirmed it was the wrong part and refunded me without me asking and I thanked them for their great customer service etc ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. The Pic they have on their site didn’t help.

    Yes, 2009 Genesis IO ID.
I’ve fitted a dropper and want to get rid of the QR clamp

re:”did you measure the internal diameter of the collar?”
It’s about 31.8mm without any torque on the bolt, So I suppose it is the a 31.8. I cant find 34mm anywhere. hmmm

OK, so the seat post is 27.2
The OD of the steel seat tube is 30mm on the nose

^^ “Seatpost is 27.2mm you need a 31.8mm seat collar ” this was the advise I was taking when I ordered, Cant remember where I read it previously.

If I fully tighten these ones I have with the 34 on them they are loose on the 30mm tube.
Guess I should try the next size down or something.

Why don’t they just state this clamp is for seat-tubes between Xmm and Ymm that would make life simpler :)

I find birds roosting in the eves, particularly in the conservatory can sound like people moving around. Especially in the hour before sunrise. I think they’re testing their wings before they leave the roost.Ive also had rats climbing the ivy and nesting in the insulation in the attic in the past.
Everything sounds a lot louder at night.

I had a fright the other evening. We’re sitting in bed setting our alarms and hear a phone notification beep from the landing. I’m holding my phone my wife’s holding her phone. I think we have an intruder, my wife thinks I’m having an affair and have a second phone.. so I’m having a whispering argument and looking for somthing heavy, I start creeping around the bed rooms and there on my youngest’s bed-side she’s found an old Samsung tablet and turned it on FFS.

I am leaning towards new rims I think.
What width would be apropriate for most modern XC + Trail tyres? would 30mm do it all? I wont be racing :)

@nickjb – That might be the way forward; I’ve ordered an Ardent to see how it fits but I would like somthing with wet weather in mind for the front like a DHF, so I might look at the rims.

Thanks @wheelsonfire1, I dont think the clearance will be an issure there’s quite a gap front and back at the moment, you could probably get a 27.5 on the back TBH. I hope you’ve got Bar-ends on that Gringo!

I’m coning back to this after ten years off. Amazing how fast the industry abandons tech.

Cheers Andy, That’s good info. Looks like all the WT tyres are 27.5″ 29″ so hopfully the 26″ will be fine.

I’m ment to be going to Hamsterley for the first time tomorrow. I hope they’re clear.
The wind speed’s ment to drop tomorrow morning but I’m a bit worried about having the bike on the roof bars in a 30mph Cross wind.

Well eitherway I might give it a go at some point, but in the mean time if i can straighten the old one I suppose I could do with a better tyre on the front first, that should probabaly be the priority.
It’s actually an Alfine 8 geared Hub that one and I’m 94Kg before i put anything on so I’ll probably get the heat into them :)

I didn’t, thought it would be impossible to get perfect enough. I’ll have a look into it.

I used to SS (and Fixed on the road) mainly because I was skint, just started getting back into my bikes recently and as I’m not in the best shape these days I bought a great condition for it’s age Genesis IO ID hub-geared MTB as a happy median.
I keep forgetting about having gears, so in some ways I’m still single speeding :)

I was all about the fleece, but I’m a convert to the down jacket mainly because they only work zipped up, so when you get on a warm train or in to the car you just pull the zipdown and you don’t boil yourself alive like I was with my fleece under a wax.
As I understand it, unless you’re going to the arctic all down jackets will work just fine.
I have a napapijri which works great but was a bit pricy. Best time to buy these things is usually spring. I’d be quite happy with a Decathlon or a Regatta if the price was right.
