LOL
You were flying on the Camber. Glad you enjoyed it. Come ride anytime.

jim76Free MemberWas a great day – nice to ride with you and I hope you aren’t too beaten up! I didn’t get a chance to see what you thought of the Camber 29er but I know it was a certainly a popular choice with many including me.
Don’t forget if you want to re-test anything just get in touch with Freeborn. They also offer one-on-one demo rides at a time to suit you and no charge, or join them for a Sunday morning ride (8.30am car park number 3 – the top one up by the Windmill)Thanks again and happy trails

jim76Free Memberteamhurtmore you should give the tandem a try. I’d never ridden one before and was a little hesitant but really took to it. It’s a different skill all together.
Sounds like they are busy – no excuse mind you! Not usually the way you are right.
jim76Free MemberKayak23 – Give them a call if you want to find out about the Ariel.
I don’t know the exact details of payment but would expect some form of payment is in place.
Teamhurtmore – Darren and AJ who own the Witness regularly ride all those trails on it and I’m sure they won’t mind if you fancy it. It’s a very unusual experience but loads of fun once you get your head around it !
jim76Free MemberHi Guys, Thought I’d jump in here. There have been a few Spitfire frames that have had bushing / linkage issues but for the most part we’ve had nothing but very positive feedback from our Spitfire customers. In the cases that have needed attention we’ve dealt with things as swiftly as possible – mostly by replacing all bushings at no charge.
There’s no definative answer to the problem and I’m certainly not going to go into the good old “bushings Vs bearings” debate right now.. but it does seem that if you are into regular strip down / maintainance then you’d have nothing to worry about. We do have a good selection of Banshee/Mythic spares in stock and they will appear on our site in due course. Anyone wanting anymore information about this please feel free to mail me on jim@freeborn.co.uk or give me a call on 01403 251252.Thanks & happy trails

jim76Free MemberI was once riding home from a friends house in the early hours of the morning and going at a fairly quick pace when this chap came past me riding no handed on an old touring bike whilst smoking a fag ! I didn't give chase but it still makes me chuckle now thinking about it 😀
jim76Free Memberheihei, Just to let you know that we have another shipment of Spitfire frames arriving shortly (ETA is end of Sept) at which point we will finally have a demo Spitfire available. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to arrange a Surrey Hills demo ride ;o)
Cheers

01403 251252jim76Free MemberOh, and geetee1972 – I'm the best rider on the Surrey Hills, you know that! 😀
jim76Free MemberWow, and I thought this post had fizzled out.. Nice to see that a majority here appreciated the tree obstacle, and that we don't all sit on the fence either.. (Greg 😉 )
The Graveyard trail has been widely used for what – 4 years now? It's never been a flat out DH trail, it's a fun twisty singletrack with a nice mix of speed and tech thrown in.
There was never a need to remove the tree in question – It was a fun feature in a section of the trail that required you to drop speed a little, think about what you were doing, negotiate the tree and then climb slightly up to the fire road crossing – not exactly a super fast section in itself, regardless of trees.Look, I'll be the first to admit to enjoying the various new trails that seem to pop up here and there up on the hills and having done plenty of trail building myself I appreciate the effort that goes into it. I am more than happy to maintain any trail that requires it (and many of them do) but removing trees is a BIG no no – simple as that, especially on a trail that's been established and enjoyed for a number of years.
jim76Free MemberI've noticed lots of alterations made to perfectly good and fun trails all over the hills – mostly short cuts across (rather than around) corners – why oh why can't people just follow the trail? To most of us part of the fun/challenge of a trail is piecing it all together and getting to grips with each trail and maintaining flow… is it not ? (maybe it's just me!)
Have also noticed various tree alterations where things can be a bit tight – I think leggy blonde has a point about the bars…
jim76Free MemberJools – yep that's the one. It must have been taken down on Monday, just curious to find out if it was done for a legit reason (by a ranger) or by a rider 🙄
jim76Free MemberI know! Just recently though an alternate route that goes around the V-tree has appeared – why I don't know but maybe that's why the section of tree was removed…
jim76Free MemberHi Guys, Thought I'd reply to this one as there's a couple of things to clear up! I won't go into the big sell on the Epiphany but simply say that it makes for a fantastic, light, efficient and fast 5" travel trail bike. For more in-depth info please just get in touch, or come and try one out and let the bike do the talking 😉
Ok, rockers… The initial run of rockers were magnesium and yes we've had a fair few back broken since the Epiphany was launched in late 2005. I must stress that these mag rockers were only fitted on the first couple of production runs of Epiphany frames and all have been replaced under warranty for much tougher alloy rockers in the instance that we've had a magnesium one returned and I have personally made sure that this has happened either on the spot in-store or as soon as physically possible for customers further afield. The replacement alloy rockers 100% do not fail and only add a small amount of weight to the bike.
I'll apologise again to Ian (Moomin) (ref waiting 6 months for a replacment front section) as the wait was too long, but I would like to point out that when it became apparent that we needed to replace the front section in question I immediately offered Moomin a front section from stock, but it was declined as we didn't have any large smoke available, only ano black or blue. After that it was a case of waiting and waiting as Ellsworth had no MK1 front sections in that size and colour available due to the development of the MK2 frame and there was very little we could do but wait. We work a little more closely with Ellsworth than suggested but this genuinely was a no-win situation, something which I do everything possible to avoid if a problem does arise with one of our import frames and I think any other importer also would.
It does seem from the images that Moomins rocker is a mag but having had the frame back I can assure that it isn't. Some of the earlier alloy rockers were darker in colour than the later/current ones, but it's only the original dark full mag rockers that were problematic, but I'll happily change it for a lighter alloy rocker if asked.
If it's any help, Chumba frames are indeed rather nice. We did begin to import them for a while but due to certain factors we decided not to persue it, but we like quality frames and that they certainly are!
Thanks

jim76Free MemberSame thing happened to me. Had 4 bikes stolen from my shed 18 months ago, eventually 1 appeared on Ebay, well what was left of it (they had stripped it down to just a frame with headset and cranks/chain guide still fitted)
There were several factors that meant I could easily identify it as mine, so I contacted the seller, won the item with the view to "pay cash on collection" and then contacted the police.
Try to keep this short, but the plan was to go to the address, I was to go in and identify the bike (even though I already had) and then the police would come in and arrest the scum bag.
Unfortunately they completely cocked it up by parking outside the scummers house in a marked police car. I then had a huge row with the scummer and the police then made things even worse by making out it may not even be my bike – "looks like any other mountain bike to me" was what one of them said…
After weeks of phone calls and a serious complaint a higher ranking police officer came round and we went through it all. He then said that they had made an arrest at a different address and seized some bikes. I explained how I could identify the Ebay bike as 100% mine – eg I work for the importer, I had the bike custom painted, it's the only one in the UK in that colour, I have the serial number, I have pictures of me on it, I know what weight spring it had on it, I had modified the frame and basically know the frame inside out etc.
Once we had been through this he went to his car and came back with my frame. It had been at the address. At this point nothing was left on it at all and there had apparently been no sign of any of my other bikes but at least I had my frame back. The police are still investigating the theft of my bikes, and still apparently talking to Ebay in regards to the seller as he had apparently told them that he had originally purchased my bike on Ebay.. Duh…
Then, in a nice little twist to the story, just 2 weeks ago as I drove home for work I actually saw one of my other stolen bikes. Another very easy to recognise bike as it was a prototype frame with anodised rear section (also the only one like it in the UK) I stopped the guy on it and lets just say he handed it over a little too easily to not know there was some history there. When he did protest at first saying how could I prove it was mine I said "flip the bike over and you'll see the word prototype on the bb shell (if it's still there and not been scratched off" Sure enough it was still there though some dud had tried to scratch it off a little.
So, after 18 months I have 1 frame and 1 complete bike back more due to luck than judgement. Good luck, I hope you get as lucky. The whole Ebay / police thing is a real headache in my opinion.

jim76Free Member“Do Truths still snap if you look at them strangely?”
No Nick they don’t 🙄
I still get the odd 01-04 (MK2) chainstay in for replacement of course which is a straight swap for the newer (current) style asymetric chainstay, but other than that, all good ta 😉
