I've still not got mine and STW towers don't seem to be responding to email either. Official-magazine-chaps – what is the score with my sub?

Have the bars on your XC bike got less sweep than on your other bikes? Perhaps a heavily swept back XC bar would help e.g. 17 degree Salsa Pro Moto, On-One Mary etc.

    waiting until pay day

Isn't that what credit cards are for? 😉

    Bummer to miss out.

I have a Gore Oxygen OS and Gill Pro Speed eVent jacket. The Gore softshell is definitely less "boil in the bag" feeling, although this, in part, is due to be able to wear it next to the skin. I don't like wearing either in summer temperatures tbh (15 degrees+).

STATO makes a good point. You are only leasing the bike off your employer. If you leave your job they may ask for the bike back, although I suspect this is unlikely.

Has anyone actually heard of a situation where the employer wanted they bike back?

Edit: But I would guess £50 to £100 to sell it

More of a hassle than just blowing it up and leaving it. Never done this with my old Thermarest. And, yes, I am lazy 😉

But my main point is, I can't see anywhere online where Alpkit tells you to do this, so how can they then not warranty the product when it fails?

they blamed us storing them in a warm tent without deflating them during the day

Is this instruction documented anywhere? I can't believe you have to inflate and deflate them daily. What a hassle.

80-100mm is for the 29er. Brant, with his old hat one, had previously said on here 26er Scandals are OK up to 120mm

That flippin' Ti29er deal is almost enough to part me from my Scandal though. Almost.

Podge – Please sell out of 19.5" geared Ti29ers quickly.

Is it a new rear mech? Perhaps the return spring in the mech is too strong. An older mech with a worn spring might actually work better!

I'm 6'3" with a 19.5" Scandal 29er. With a 90mm stem it seems spot on. Unless you want to run a really short stem I suspect an 18" would be best for you.

I think they are great bikes. Nice and light. Seem pretty strong – usual XC stuff, small drops, although I haven't taken mine anywhere rocky. No / not much less comfortable than the 26er Tinbred I had before it. I think they are hard to beat for the price although I still fancy a Swift or Sir9 (would have to be 2nd hand though!) at some point.

You are welcome to try mine for size if you happen to be in the Herts or Berks area.

I like the Revolt Super X too, although I haven't used them for a while. I still like the Nobby Nick (F), Racing Ralph (R) combo.

I have a 2.25" Ardent on the back of my 29er and it has been fast rolling and reasonably grippy. Otherwise 2.4" Racing Ralphs are hard to beat IMO.

So is it a bit like calling the bike a "Santa Cruz 33% Extra"?

    I agree. Stupid name.

not sure a 29" FS is going to work?..

Why not? Lots of other companies doing it to. Santa Cruz effort looks nice in a comfortable, familiar sort of way. The frame is going to be the wrong side of £2k though for sure.

I wonder how much travel is has? I am guessing 120mm F&R.

Edit: Just re-read the article and it says 100mm

One thing to bear in mind is that the cheaper trailers tend to be narrower which can be an issue if you are carrying 2 kids depending on how old they are. My 4 and 2 year old boys have pretty much no more growing room in a Burley Bee.

    Well I never.

Very sensible of you. I am sure they are at a very reasonable price too.

Re Cannondale warranty – last I heard they didn't have a UK distributor so chasing up warranty claims was a bit of an issue. Apparently they are pretty good at honouring the warranty, it just a bit of a hassle

Despite the bad review from MBR (apparently) it might be worth testing one of Bionicon's range. The Edison is probably the closest to your requirements. I have tested a few of them and thought they were great.

Does it need to be adjustable? how about a "robust" 4" travel bike that can handle longer forks a la Blur 4X

Otherwise, I think Nicolai's have adjustable travel

    3) A wedge system that means you can add 30mm more width to the bars

    How does that work?

    Are they these? http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/mountain-bike-handlebar-grips/outland-enduro-12-lock-on.html

The fact he thought about using his lock as a weapon is the most worrying thing. I suspect that wasn't the first time he has hit someone with it. Someone shouts at you, things escalate to physical confrontation, most "normal" people won't think about unclipping their U-lock and smacking the other person about the head.

On the otherhand, he was very effective in his attack – he didn't even let go of his bike!

I own a BMW and go out of my way to indicate early, let people out of junctions and generally be a courteous driver just to even the balance up.

I also ought to admit a mate has an X5 and he is a thoroughly nice bloke although I can't comment on the standard of his driving.

I tried really hard to not buy a BMW but unfortunately they make the best cars 🙁

I have yet to find a chunky enough grip but Lizard Skin Northshore are my current favourites: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=7459

I have just bought the "Freeride" shoes. They get their first outing this afternoon. They are less chunky than Impact2's which is why I chose them. I can report back later 🙂

I've not used V8/V12s but I do have the MG1s. I've not heard anyone complain about the shape of them, although they are not one of the larger pedals available.

I have tested lots of bikes I didn't end up buying and none of the bikes I did end up buying. But I wouldn't recommend my approach 😉

I can't believe anyone is actually that interested in a 912. Do you guys actually know what they are? I can see no good reason to own one over an early 911. Slower, about as expensive to run and "not a 911".

On a similar not to the OP – has anyone ever ripped (or seen) the head tube off a carbon frame? My old Trek 9.8 seemed massively overbuilt around both the headtube and bottom bracket. I would imagine it was a lot stronger than you might think.

I was wondering that! They must do, surely – just hidden by the stanchions in the photo?
