A few people have recommended made-to-measure stuff from Cioch, but this is mid and outer layer stuff not shorts and jerseys.

Sam had some Pace carbon forks on one of his Swifts when I went for a test ride with him. Not sure what length a-c they are but they seemed fine.

Swayndo of these parts is/was selling a DB Morning Glory which I believe is, in effect, a Ti Prince Albert. How about that?

I assume you are not referring to my favoured method using a mallet and a piece of wood 😉

To be fair, it has worked perfectly in all the steel, alu and carbon frames I have built up.

Agree with the above (I bought a bike for a mate from him about 5 years ago)

Smaller frame with longer stem for XC + layback seatpost, shorter stem & inline seatpost for playing about on?

A bit of a compromise but if you are right between the two sizes it should work OK.

Yep, over the road in the Health Club car park.

Just out of interest, the shots of tiny tents in the back of beyond (awesome photos by the way) – are you strictly speaking allowed to camp in those sorts of locations or do you have to be a bit cheeky?

6'3" on a Large Blur 4X (inline seatpost and 70mm stem). Great for a "toy" bike but if I were doing all-day XC rides I'd want something larger.

I am 6'3" too (although short legged and long bodied) and I have a 19.5" Scandal 29er and it is spot on. I definitely wouldn't want to go any bigger. I could easily fit a slightly longer stem and push the saddle back on the rails a cm or two if I wanted more reach too.

Where are you? You are welcome to try my Scandal for size if you are near Hertfordshire.

    Digging up an old thread.

Did Brant's "Luxy" bars even make it to production? The only info I can find online is about the prototype that Sam/Singular Cycles tested.

If you want a Ti frame and can afford it, buy it. These decisions should be made with the heart not the head.

And once you have your first scratch on it, you will stop worrying (so much) about damaging your lovely, shiny, expensive toy.

Re the C clips – ask Hope. They sent me some for free a year or so ago. Nice chaps 🙂

Can't help you with the coil questions I'm afraid.

How does the arcteryx epsilon size up? One of those websites says a Large is 42-44" chest – does that sounds about right? And what is the sleeve length like (I need LONG sleeves)?

Shame as Racing Ralph 2.4"s are high volume and surprisingly grippy

Damn you. You have forced me to remember my old Scott Super Evolution. What a horrid bike.

I have only bought 3 houses but I have never seen anything in a Homebuyers survey that I didn't spot myself. It has always been obvious stuff like "X window frame is rotten" or "Didn't check roof because couldn't access roof space". Personally I would only spend money on a "proper" survey if I spotted something untoward that I didn't understand or was borderline an issue or if the house was at risk of needs rewiring etc. For your average house where you can see the roof, hasn't been just decorated (potentially hiding a multitude of sins), isn't damp etc I am not convinced the Homebuyers surveys are worth it.

I accept my data pool is small though 🙂

Interesting that they are doing a Ti version again. I really liked the old Ti Pipedream I used to have although I know there were some issues with some frames breaking. It was quite a hooligan of a frame and not at all like you might expect a ti frame to ride. I suspect the new ones will be more "normal".

How much were the pre-orders for the 853 frame, by the way? Even at £295 it is a good price.

As above plus ask the agent why it hasn't sold already. Some are surprisingly honest and might mention something you haven't thought about.

Don't worry about taking the piss. You will never speak to or see the owners (with any luck) so you can be as cheeky as you like. And agents are always happy to get offers, even low ones.

jfeb- its a trail centre though? No need for rear suspension?

Absolutely no need. Just more fun IMO. Some of the descents are reasonably bumpy and a little give out back certainly let me attack them a bit more. Afan's descents (at least the ones I have done) are basically roller coasters and the faster you can go down them the better 🙂

And a baby shower is a horrid American invention where friends of the mother-to-be all get together and give the mother-to-be baby-related presents. That said, it is a great way to cut down on the cost of having a baby (for the first couple of months anyway!)

Afan is great. Never been to Glentress so I can't compare it but it is fun and there is plenty to fill 2 days IMO. If you want you could always pop over to Cym Carn anyway.

Regarding taking a hardtail – you will be absolutely fine on a hardtail but I definitely had more fun on my Blur 4X than I would have done on a hardtail when I was there. Just IMO.

I think you are right. I, for one, am not "race fit" having done bugger all riding for the last couple of months but I am also very happy to tag along at the group's speed until I get dropped and then find my own way home (the joys of gps). However, I am also happy to join a slower group.

I would be keen on learning some local trails though as I am newish to the area.

I live near Hemel and am keen for joining in a local ride. I'll drop the relevant people emails.

lyons – I'd appreciate a local showing me round Ashridge. I've done a bit of riding up there but stuck mainly to the (not very interesting) bridleways. A bit of cheeky riding would be good.

curtisthecat – I just moved from Berko to Felden. I'd be up for very slow and steady if you fancy meeting up for a ride (email in profile)

Ton. If you are still looking for a Santa Cruz dealer, I used http://www.bikescene.co.uk/ for my Blur 4X a year ago. They were great to deal with.

If you get your arse behind the saddle then it hardly matters what height it is

What it you want your arse over the saddle but don't want to get smacked in the nuts as you manhandle the bike about?

My Night Visions have been waterproof so far BUT they soak up a lot of water. The waterproof layer must be on the inside!

I got one on my toy bike because I kept bashing my outer chain ring (mainly when messing doing local street riding). It has taken a few knocks so has proved useful. My bike does have a pretty low BB though (Blur 4X).

I have a Burley Bee (with QR and chainstay hitches) I keep meaning to put up for sale. Let me know if you are interested.

Burley make great trailers and I believe they don't currently have a UK distributor so they are hard to get hold of at the moment

I was at Swinley yesterday on my Blur 4X and tbh I think the rigid 29er will be out next time if the weather stays like this – it was pretty muddy!
