Club road ride. 200km to support the nutters doing a 500km 24hr ride.

Look out for Team Cystic Fibrosis on the roads in Yorkshire – ride is raising money for CF Trust.

We did SF, Yosemite, Death Valley, Zion, Bryce, Monument valley, Grand Canyon then Vegas and flight home.

As other have said Evhas bizarre but good for 1-2 nights.

Yosemite stunning and good low and.hihj level hikes. Zion amazing congrats of green lushness and rock. Bryce just bizarre but stunning and v quiet. Grand Canyon v touristy at South Rim but still epic and 30 min hike down from rim crowds thin rapidly.

May good time to go – will be crazy hot in places in midsummer!

Got one on my pinnacle commuter. As others have said – awesome for commuting as it’s always there and always works. Just means no hassle and impossible to forget your light, so if ever weather crap, finish late etc etc it’s never an issue.

    Can’t recommend highly enough

Couldn’t get mine to load from mobile, laptop or desktop so put stuff on FB sale forums instead,

Don’t think you can get much more English than Harrogate! Sheffield not a bad place – 2 hrs to St P on train and decent countryside close by. Lots of parks in the city and fairly laid back overall.

Somewhat more multi cultural than Harrogate too.

Trek Fuel Ex 29 fits those numbers ish. Ridden one couple of weekends as hire bike – climbs well with platform on and descends ridiculously well for it’s travel – capable of carrying decent speed even over rocky terrain until it gets really rocky.

Only issue is out of stock in XL in every model but the 6.5k one in UK. (I wanted to get one!)

Dahon a good shout – have a 7 speed one that was £300 new on special. Ridden it all over London, Sheffield various others. OK on hills if you take it steady and rides fairly well. Only downside is doesn’t fold quite as compact as a Brompton but still goes under desk/next to table in pub/on train easy enough.

    Mazda’s are great, if boring. I’ve got a 3 and Mrs jet a 2.

Paid 3500 for the 3 with 45000 on it and had 60000 miles out of it so far for cost of servicing and replacing rear shocks.

For value motoring can’t fault it, and would definitely buy Mazda again based on reliability of ours.

Would second Rob Hayles – repaired mine and a mates frame and both immaculate. He will also paint to match existing decals if wanted, and V reasonable on price too.

Had a demo ride on a scarp – had to check it didn’t have an engine. Lightening fast climbing and on twisty single-track. Encourages you push hard. Not as good as others on the downs though – felt a bit twitchy.

If speed and climbing were a priority would be a great bike, fastest thing I’ve ever ridden.

Definitely worth a demo on an intense – even the primer pedals and climbs like a rocket, despite being pretty handy downhill. (Think one of their mechanics does easier enduros on one at times).

Lot of bike for the money now they are direct sale. And no I don’t work for/with them!!

Intense primer or sniper worth a look. Have demo’d the primer and a mate has one – goes like a scalded cat for a bike with that much travel, up and down.

Sniper meant to be fantastic too if speed important, although not ridden one yet…

Stoner be interested to hear how the new board rides.

Out in Whistler with a mate from Vancouver. Unbelievable amount of runs to go at – 30cm of untracked powder yesterday, amazing day.

Did SF to Vegas via Yosemite/Death Valley/Zion/Bryce/Monument/Grand Canyon couple of years ago. As everyone has said Yosemite definitely worth visiting but drive is far, far longer if Tioga Pass closed. Death Valley is definitely a one night stay and take a pic job but worth it for the novelty if passing that way.

Cirque du soleil worth seeing in Vegas – was a very expensive night out but one of the shows there is only ever on there so worth doing.

Zion is definitely worth a trip – was the highlight of the trip in some ways.

Also have one. Cube sizing can be a bit odd but if the sizing works it’s a great bike. Ridden in Alps/Pyrenees/Majorca and ascends and descends brilliantly. Very stable descender even at 50-60mph.

Only criticism is the paint jobs are sometimes a bit loud and euro. Very light and stiff frames that also ride well. There’s little not to like!

Rob Hayles (as in ex pro cyclist) – Re-Carb on Twitter does excellent carbon repairs – done my frame and a couple of riding mates. Repair was outstanding and you can’t even tell it was done – paintjob was perfectly matched.

He’s pretty reasonable price wise – well very reasonable compared to cost of even a poor quality new frame.

Currently stuck in Finland on way back from Japan. Just been for 11 days as Mrs jet was working there.

Amazing place – spent most of our time in Kyoto/Osaka/Nara which is enough to fill ten days, if you include a day or two to go to Hiroshima. Lots of Japanese history – temples, shrines etc and Osaka is a mad and crazy busy but v friendly city.

Has food options for just about anything you can name and a few you definitely can’t!

Happy to drop you a mail if helpful

York in Broomhill a good shout, as is kelham Island. If you want daytime beers the Stag on Psalter Lane/Sharrow Vale Road junction is awesome and does Thornbridge beers – usually 8 or 9 on.

Kettle black on ecclesall road good for late drinking and music but all a bit fake tan brigade.

Pub in station is excellent as mentioned – Def worth a trip

    Enjoy!

Have a Dahon D7 and have ridden it for 4 years. It gets hopped on and off kerbs, ridden on towpaths and generally abused.

For a folder it is fairly rigid and bombproof. Have tested Bromptons couple of times and the Dahon is noticeable stiffer/more bombproof just fold bigger.  But as a bike I find it better – very comfy with a brookes saddle and an XL seatpost from the US (am 6’4 so standard post bit short)

No mention of what job but if a junior doctor it used to be within the contract that cover must be provided for absence less than 48 hours notice. More than 48 hours not so.

Which meant employer could effectively say either someone volunteers or we volunteer someone. That said if been on nights have to have 24 hours off minimum after finishing so not eligible.

Look up Rob Hayles – re_carb on Twitter. Does carbon frame repairs at very reasonable prices. Quality is outstanding.

Did my road bike and has done mates too.

Depending on how important pedalling is have a look at the Intense Primer and others too. Demo’d one at Dalby and very capable and super sharp response to pedalling.

Clearly capable – one of their mechanics apparently races his on easier enduro courses.

May be a bit too trail end of the spectrum though?

Won’t be done in time I suspect but look up recarb – Rob Hayles does carbon frame repairs.

Just had mine done and good as new. Couple of riding mates had theirs done previously and really good work.

May still need to beg/borrow for the trip sadly…

Rode the spectral at the weekend – guess it’s horses for courses – was quite underwhelmed by it – great on the downs but not great at all on the climbs and felt really slow and not at all lively.

Guess it depends what you are looking for though and plenty of others seem to rate it!

Kelron how did you think the Sniper was better? Seriously considering a Primer but the Sniper may be a better choice (didn’t get to ride one).

Rode the KTM Scarp which was crazy fast but just too skittery at high speed on the downs, the Sniper might be a good middle ground…

@tomd – very little to be honest. For a bike with that much travel it pedals amazingly both in twisty singletrack and uphill.

Really great bike, only negative was rear tyre clearance isn’t massive. (Big enough for a 2.35-2.4 though)

Rode various bikes at the MBR demo day yesterday and the one that stood out by far was the intense Primer.  Fantastic bike up and down and climbed better than various others we tried – Spectral, Scott Genius, Nukeproof Mega, Rocky Mountain ?? and was almost as good on the downs.

If you ride mainly singletrack rather than super rocky stuff the KTM Scarp was unbelievably fast. It pedals and climbs at warp speed but you give away some comfort on the downs as it’s only 90mm travel. Fastest bike I’ve ever ridden by a mile.

Will watch this carefully – also pondering the same. Canyon Spectral or Trek Fuel Ex caught my eye so far – had a rental fuel at CyB for a weekend and good compromise between .speed up and speed down.

Bont. Amazingly wide. They look weird and are crazy stuff but are mouldable multiple times and once moulded are like the world’s stiffest slippers – super comfy yet rigid

CHB drop me a mail. I work at Northern General and sadly the trust won’t take people who are not at Sheffield schools (due to overwhelming demand) but I know a few Leeds orthopods and am happy to put her in touch.

Buzzrunner rack here. Three bike one. Been to Scotland, Alps, Pyrenees with it and never skipped a beat.

If you buy from roofbox.co.uk they keep spares too and will send replacement parts v quick.

    Great value for money

A ride at Langsett and out on cut gate would be one obvious choice – don’t go on the ‘snow road’ bridleway from dunford though, it’s awful. Can ride on road to flouch roundabout then bridleway to Langsett Res.

Second option is head holmfirth way – there’s a good loop that goes up above digley reservoir and round and about holmfirth.

Another vote for redwoods in Yosemite cabins – pretty fantastic waking up in the middle of the forest each morning

Yosemite is fantastic, great views and some good hikes.
