Glupton/Dr death you can see the acetabular component, and the cement around it – metal on poly bearing. Plus the femoral head is smaller than that for a hemi. And hemi’s look different.

Agree left side suspicious, although needs another view.

OP apologies, this does not help you!

For the record it’s a total hip not a hemi…

Speak to whoever you see in fracture clinic. It is not something to answer on here but in short take your time – recurrent dislocation is not fun.

The plan at the moment consists of go to NZ. Not got much beyond that!!

Plan was to fly into auckland then head down north island fairly quickly to wellington (friends there). Then spend most of time on south island.

Is it better to rent car and motels/hotels or get a camper?

The whole plan is fairly fluid…

Biking wise may well not do much due to time constraints. (and may head out there for a year or two in 2014).

OP are you less than 30? Unlikely on here!

Seriously though, makes a big difference.

Thanks guys. Sounds like 60 it is.

Other question is supersix standard mod or caad 10? At moment thinking caad. Not sure why but seems to make sense!

As per posts above – the wound needs seeing by someone who knows what they are looking at.

Do you not have a f/up appt?

Most wounds can be left undressed at 14 days plus. They still need reviewing though!

If you can get on one rfu run PSITCC – now used by jockey club, FA, RFU and others.

On the subject of chelsea boots can recommend any with rubber soles?

Found plenty from loakes etc with a leather sole but want some with a rubber sole for winter but properly made. Have looked at RM Williams but prices little hard to stomach – are they well made enough to justify price?

Kumho kw-23 are good and reasonable price. Grip very well in snow and wet. They were 82 fitted 205/55/16.

Doctoring for thst there NHS thing. Well, assuming it continues to exist.

Great job when politicians stop interfering. Long hours and hard work but wouldn’t give it up for (almost) anything.

Read the chimp paradox. Covers this stuff well.

Although that doesn’t help in short term!

As above – are tuition fees going to impact – if you graduate with 30-50k debt you are not buying a house for a long time?

And surely banks asking for 40% deposits on best rates implies they don’t predict prices going up?

Tell me I am wrong – just asking!

Suppose it also depends how long you are staying put – if long term not an issue.

I rent as cheaper than buying having done the maths and my contract expires in 2014 and could end up anywhere.

Suppose answer is it’s what suits you. Have a chat with an IFA?

Lot if Rapha is made in china which makes prices seem crazy. Least assos is Swiss made – although still expensive.

That said have a pair of assos bibs still going strong after 9 years use…

Good luck with it all, sounds like they are looking after you.

Have seen plenty of patients with injuries that were horrendous do way better than they logically should have done, will keep fingers crossed!

As above the person to make that decision is the one that saw you.

I think the point is valid although poor outcomes in TKR can often be multifactorial.

Do you want to look purely at rehab or at outcomes?

    jet26

Depends how you define unsuccessful. In some cases it is poor patient choice or rather operating on those who probably weren’t bad enough.

Outcomes for knees are worse than hips in all hands. Poorly understood that said most still do very well..

PM me if you want more info.

There are no set criteria. It is decision made by patient and surgeon.

Main aim is treatment of pain though – anything else is a bonus.

    That help?

Just sold one – and was sad to see it go.

Probably the best bike of any type i have owned if judged on smiles/pound spent.

Now have a solaris so it was getting neglected and left in the garage so has gone to a new home with another STWer.

Can’t recommend them highly enough though – great feel and nothing to adjust/faff with – if it doesn’t feel right you just have to man up and pedal harder!

concept 2 are very good and just about indestructible – what all the elite rowing squads use.

water rowers are much nicer to look at and actually give a much more realistic ‘feel’ compared to actual rowing.

If you just want to bosh up and down an get fit concept 2 the way to go BUT they make turbo trainers seem interesting (used to spend three hours a week on one…)

No idea on midwives but medical students largely same – just have to get on with it. That said they used to give you accommodation on site mon-fri if you were too far to travel each day.

    Penistone/Cawthorne/ingbirchworth/upper denby.

Easy access to Sheffield via wharncliffe woods (in rush hour), wood head to manc, M1 not far and trains from Wakefield for easy London access if that matters.

And it’s a bloody nice place to live too, rural but not that rural. Good pubs too.

WCA where in country are you?

As you commented talus fractures are a different kettle of fish to a tibial plafond (articular) fracture. Type of talus fracture makes a big difference to outcome – Hawkins classification give you more info.

The big problem with any published outcome data/classifications though is they are only population trends – there is still variation.

As a general rule those who want to do well usually do in one fashion or another. Fusion would not be the end of the world if it needed to happen but depends how much function/pain you have when things settled down.

    Not sure if that helps!

    James
