Did it all on line November last year, it said not to do a selfie, but as they came out better than with someone else taking it I tried that.
Send off old passport and new one arrived a few weeks later, seemless :-)

As above, if they have improved the slight delay then its a no brainer :-)

Went to IGH in 2003 with a Rohloff to avoid wear and tear issues from local clay/grinding paste.

    Currently have
    2 x alfine 8
    2 x alfine 11
    3 x Rohloffs

I have previously outlined the benefits and the bombproofness of the Rohloff and my only criticism and it’s minor, is the weight at the back wheel, which you do accommodate too over time.

However I’ve had a Pinion on a Nicolai for just over 12 months and I would rate it as good as the Rohloff but with the advantage of having the weight centred.

The sooner someone can get these down to a more wallet friendly price the better, for your average mountain bike person the advantages are just too good for vertualy no functional compromise, except if you must have trigger shifters.
As an aside the Nicolai frame with Pinion worked as cheap a as a frame and Rohloff purchase I made back in 2009:-)

I see the future for Mtb’s where frames all come with a standard interface for your choice of gearbox with choices from 2-3 gearbox manufacturer’s. Although this would probably create another standards frenzy.
Would be surprised if Shimano weren’t working on something with their experience around the Alfine.

“I like my susspension quite hard cos im a fat bastard.”

I am afraid this ^, however the my rear setup is a lot softer on the pinion bike.

Mmmmm, vaguely remember having cat like reflexes, which seemed to have vanished when approaching mid 40s, definitely need that twitch for when things go a little wrong and like lionheart after year of close calls and near misses managed to break a few bones later in life :-)

I’ve always been slow uphill though, due to having “big bones” :-)

Sparky, 26″ MTBs and a 24″ dirt jump bike, but only 4 in total to allow space at the front to move around in.

If money was no object then I would probally go for the 10′ x 7′ version, but I have another shed or garage to work in.

As a quick fix, its on a patio area with cotswold stones, which I cleared a space in and laid down some recycled plastic garden tiles from B&Q on top of the anti weed mat, luckily I had got the ground reasonable flat before putting the mat and stones down.

Ideally I would put it on a concreate base.

My Rohloffs feel draggy if left for a while or its cold, but not noticed it on the Alfine.

Yep, got it second hand but only a few months old.

    Build and quality is superb.

You can fit 6 bikes ok and I have a work stand sat in a corner but you would need to take 2-3 bikes out to work in there.

Unfortunately its not quite tall enough to hang bikes up.

I had this happen to me several years ago whilst doing up the house.
Had popped to the local DIY store to pick up some bags of sand and cement.

Arrived back to find a car parked across the drive, despite there being an empty road with space for several cars 10ft in front of where they had parked.

Luckily it wasn’t in gear and a quick deployment of a trolly jack saw the offending item making it way down the road.

I was quite keen of leaving it in a……..well thankfully I had calmed down by then and someone acted as a voice of reason.

However very inconsiderate people :-( and yes I did knock doors

Got a set of hopes bars a few months ago for the Geometron to keep to a product theme, plus they are quite subtle graphics wise.

Exchanged before fitting as I noticed a inner layer of carbon had move during manufacture leaving a thin and thick spot, thick good, thin bad.
    New pair have been fine.

I have been running Easton DH and Havoc bars for maybe up to 10+ years and more recently also have a set of Renthal bars all without issues.

However a friend recently snapped both ends of some Ritchey WCS carbon bars at Llandegla, they are a xc bar, it was short travel fork HT, he was landing a jump.
Left side snapped near the brake lever clamp, the right side about 40 mm from the stem.
Ironically I had got him a set of 35 mm Eastons in the sale for his 50th as I was a bit concerned about a xc bar and his riding style but he had neglected to fit them :-)

Using a DB air without the switch on an Ion 16 GPI, and using the settings off their Web site for the Ion 16, seems good so far, just added 1-2 click on the low speed compression to aid peddling from memory.

Sucked a wasp in once, kind of wedged it between tongue and the roof of my mouth, before swalling it.
It wasn’t happy and was buzzing like crazy, whilst I tried not to retch and/or fall off the bike whilst trying to grab it with thumb and forefinger……….. Who said we can’t multitask :-)

Fully exepecting to get stung, but as I grabbed it, some venom must have sprayed over the back of my tongue.
Weird sensation, and was fully expecting tongue and throat to swell up and to suffocate to death, but they didn’t, just felt like had swallowed some nasty chemical for 3 or 4 hours.

I have used moby memory (direct store not eBay) several times over the years for micro sd cards and despite a rather poor Web site have been ok to date, cheap, delivery fine and no product failures.
However the site seems to be getting progressively poorer to navigate so not used recently.

Hope you get it sorted ok

I also have the Bontrager Flash Charger, only had one non inflation event but the compressor also couldn’t inflate it.
    Very impressed so far.

Also honeymooned in San Francisco spent 9 days there as a base then 9 days in Mammoth.

I think everybody has covered most things.

Marin and the Redwood forest was good.
Wish we had done the wine train through Nappa Valley.

Yosemite was awsomelabobs, in hindsite would have spent a few more days there than San Francisco.

Mammoth was great, bit more chilled and I even managed a day on the bike riding the kamikaze :-)

    Enjoy yourself :-)

Its been many years since reading the Dune series, really liked the immersive feel of a story across multiple books.

From memory the other series I really liked at the time was the Amtrak Wars.

I went with a Nicolai GPI :-) other than a few other niche brands I just can’t believe there aren’t more bikes out there with the Pinion gear box.

Crap spent £24+ 2 weeks ago for the button cover from a German site, 50 % of the cost was postage, grrr.

However it is awsome and makes the operation way easier.

Well been away for a couple days with no wi-fi and my my that got more STW quickly :-)

Thanks for all the input its greatly appreciated.

It probably an area thing with the gorse bushes, seem to be in sandy or sandstone area’s near me.

I think the AVS seems to be the most balanced design but are so pricey……. I think I would also like the guard slightly bigger and the the attachment to the bar needs to be like a brake lever with a double bolt clamp for removal/attachment without removing the grips.

Thanks again especially the sensible stuff :-)

Zippykona that is what I am talking about, bet that trail was a 1.5 m wide 4 weeks ago.

Joshvegas, not that I am aware of but great idea, I did see an advert the week for a wrist band for commuters that had a section with a mirror that flipped up to enable thd rider to see behind them.

MarkyG, a bit of googling does indicate there is a MX version with a bar end type support for the guard.

Nobeer I doubt if napalm would clear some of the recent growth :-)

Flashheart, great photo loved 80’s bmx fashion, race plates and stickers, I had a pair of the Haro race pants, 28 inch waist, the last time I remember my waist size being less than my leg measurement. Happy days.

Well I am quite surprised no outright haters.

Good price but not quite as well executed as the AVS

Good point regarding trailing brambles, not sure the guards would help with those.

Used go every year, loved it absolutely great vibe. Fairly local but still used to camp for the two nights.

Even raced the dual slalom one year :-)

Just need to take care not attract the wrong elements like the last unfortunate event.

    Nostalgiatastic :-)

Had a pair for a couple of months, non boost, straight pull and I like them.

Bit heavy after running a Easton carbon wheelset, but I guess a 2.8 tyre on the front and a 2.4 on rear is not going to help things :-)

Never dinged a rim in my life unless I’ve had a flat so don’t anticipate any issues, setup tubless and I never run less than 30 psi.
