Same issues and I gave up until my feet shrink 😀

First ride on Sunday with the high top version, I got from Germany for £66.

Is was dry so can’t comment how good they are in the wet, but look the most protective of all the different five ten I have used over the years.

Would be perfect with a boa system and/or lace flap.

Comparing photos at the bottom of the page in the link, I would say it a bright red :-)

If new I am sure whomever you purchased them from would exchange for sets with the black hoses.

I have the same setup for general riding.

I have tried a number of wtb tyres whilst they were cheep, mainly in 2.8 and 2.5 versions and they worked well in dry sandy conditions.

However after the back end let go in slightly damp conditions at a trail centre I just purchased some minions dhf.

Had a pair of 35w for at least 18 months with no issues, however I don’t run tyre pressure’s below 30 psi :-)

Tweaked a G16 one to fit the GPI, had to cut off the BB bit to clear the gearbox which I have taped separately.

<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>Fitted tape on the down tube to prevent rubbing from dirt, seems to be working well so far.</span>

Black if your keeping the wheels for a while or if they may get fitted to different bikes :-)

Never mismatch hubs, except on a pub bike :-)

Mine turned up today via DPD to local collection point.

Look OEM as expected, plain brown box, forks wrapped in a single poly bag with cable guide in a smaller bag rattling around the box ( don’t miss or lose it )

The black version comes with old school silvery stanchions, steerer is black, crown is black and fork legs are black.

Graphics are a two tone bronze or burnt orange colour depending on lighting.

    QP 15 X 100 is a quick release 15 mm axle.

Look quite beefy compared to the x-fusions they will replace, which were twice the price several years ago, bargain :-)

None of mine have leaked, although I have changed the drive side seal, but can’t remember why.

Any circumstances leading to big changes in heat or air pressure?

No idea on ride yet, will be despatched on Monday.

    <span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>2017 oil levels</span>

    <span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>http://www.ridefox.com/fox17/help.php?m=bike&id=778</span&gt;

Last two pairs of Fox 36 have seemed ok, did have an issue with a 36 talas 180 a few years ago, that was a bit queaky, at the time there was a lot of press about low oil levels, so did a lower leg service, measured the oil and it was about 20% of the recommended quantity.

Never had any 34’s, so looking forward to how they compare to the 36’s. :-)

Tried a wtb 2.8 on the 2016 gpi with the 142 dropouts last weekend.

It fits, with reasonable clearance for summer or low mud conditions.

Unfortunatley though it catches the belt pully arm when the rear is unloaded on the gpi so didnt try riding it.

Just come back and took the mountain bikes.

There is one flat off road path along the western coast for about 10 mile, very scenic but mostly follows the road.

Some section of the coastal path may be doable but some sections have lots of steep steps, so better walked.

However everyone else seemed to be on road or touring bikes.

Had a gearhub bike since 2003, gearhubs are awsome, except for two things, weight location and short term outlay.

Managed to finally get a Nicolai GPI with pinion gearbox in 2016, geabox is perfect, as good as a rohloff hub but centred in the middle of the bike.

They are odd, I’ve ran them as a pair and they are ok but a bit drifty.

    Try a minion dhf :-)

I find a single sting painful, but a good spread of multiple stings on a limb as per slowoldman is quite invigorating :) maybe its a man who has matured and enjoys a more leisurely approach  thing.

110 KG here, coils are heavy even with titanium springs and I always struggled getting air shocks feeling right until I got a new bike and sourced a Cane Creek DB Air which was a complete revelation.

Just got a second hand float X2 which feels pretty similiar to the DB Air but maybe not as sensitive on small bumps, however haven’t tried either in more extreme conditions like the Alps only coil.

Yea noticed Tredz had them, but wary of stated stock from some of these online stores.

Acycles for example 26 x 2.5 stated in stock but took 4 weeks to be told there was a stock error, had the same experience with a couple of other online stores, finally sourced from a place in Italy but at a price!

CRC haven’t had good stock levels for ages.

I dont agree,  even standard gear system have evolved since the 90’s.

The Pinion gearbox , Rohloff and Nuvinci hubs all have a slightly difference approach, the Pinion has already got lighter with the C.1 12 model with the use of magnesium housing, bound to be a few more tweeks to get pricing and weight even lower. The Kindernay has a different approach to current hub gears

<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>Quite interested in the Nuvinci approach applied to a gearbox and Kindernay has some different approaches to the current hub gears :-) </span>

Got a Nicolai Ion GPI, love it, only bike I’ve had where I would consider selling the other bikes to fund a second pinion bike.

What is needed is for gearboxes become more affordable and get onto mid range bikes, then I thinks more manufacturers may come on board so we get the weight and price lower.

Gearbox and electric would be awsome :-)

From memory the ranger is 68 mm wide on a hope 35w rim, fits a fox 36 fork with just enough clearance for a mud guard.
Generally a good all round trail tyre but no minion and certainly better in drier conditions.
