FWIW have a look at yesterdays Guardian Magazine – insightful piece by Yottam Ottolenghi (the Chef) on the issues he and his partner had! HTH

You could try a liner kit (POR15)- Frosts do them. I’ve done a couple of tanks with good results. Thorough cleaning and drying is the key. Brazing is tricky if there’s any internal rusting as you can’t grind off the braze marks to get a nice finish.

Mrs Jerseychaz is Gluten, Lactose and Egg intolerant but still manages to eat pretty well – I spent half my life reading the ingredients lists in supermarkets in the early days of our relationship. Sainsbury’s have quite a good range but put egg in almost all the bakery products to get the rise. Morrissons do a bread with Quinoa and Millet which is pretty good though. There are loads of good cookery books available now, try the Phil Vickery one. We’ve found that pubs and restaurants that cook from fresh can usually offer two or three dishes without any of the dreaded ingredients, those that haul Brake Bros products out of the freezer can’t. Mrs doesn’t drink so I can’t offer any help there. We don’t bother with seperate toasters, pans etc but do take care to seperate utensils when we are actually cooking. BTW, japanese Soy Sauce is gluten free :D

You’ll get shafted on ferries as “freight” although you can sometimes pull the “sporting goods” line if you have a bike(s) in the back! Used t have a T4 which was brilliant, a bit battered so people gave you a wide berth in car parks and let you out of side turnings :-)

Stef, I’m still on the Island, being seasonal means s**t shifts = Saturdays and Sundays :-(

I’m now working Friday and Saturday nights 3 w/e out of 4 so should be able to sneak out for a ride some Saturdays, probably won’t make the full trip as I need to spend sometime with SWMBO.

    Got the Conservy fixed?

Sydenhams should stock it (or can get it), at a pinch Hursts. Best bet is to get the lead re-dressed properly though. I’m surprised that my Conservy rook didn’t leak last night (although the gutter on the front of the house has now broken :-(

PS: Might begin to get out on Saturdays again now I’m not working….

There’s a very active MTB scene – XC & DH organised by Guernsey Velo – good road action too! And that’s from someone who used to live on the “big island” aka Jersey :-)

Hi Gnus – thanks for the offer, don’t go out of your way, but if they’ve got bits for a 1.9dCi I may well be interested.

Don’t know! I keep looking for bits for my ’03 Scenic RX4, currently need an O2 sensor and 2 cam position sensors plus a seal for the oil feed to the turbo :( Let me know if you find anywhere good!

I can raise you a Pilot – Flt Lieut Ken Trent who’s my ex Father in Law! (he’s 90 this year!) Did some time with 617 Squadron after the Dam raids and the Berlin Airlift meant he clocked over 100 missions (not all combat) – he tells some tales of their exploits, the drinking/driving scares me stiff before he starts on flying!

Had mine done about 18 years ago – Marie Stopes after referral by my GP so it was FREE! No shaving, quick jab of local anaesthetic, some rummaging and the smell of burning flesh & hair as they cauterized the tubes 8O They were keen to know how I was getting home – didn’t let on I had the car outside, got dressed and legged it, back home feet up on the settee with a large G&T within the hour before the LA wore off. Weekend of rest and back to work on the Monday, some spectacular bruising of the ball bag but nothing worse. Now, second Mrs Jerseychaz thinks its great!

Go up to Brighstone quite a lot, I’m in Porchfield so it is handy. Grammars Common? where’s that.

Nope, I think they are currently allocating seats etc. I’m in the same position – Artistic Gymnastics! Nat West moved from Visa to Mastercard afterI’d paid the money! AFAIK the paper tickets get sent out in June once they’ve been printed in the US and shipped over here!

Done it! Going to be interesting to see how it pans out but nothing to lose at the mo.

You are missing one point – the excess only applies to damage to the insureds vehicle. The 3rd party claim will be paid in full.

There’s Moto-Bins who are Hepco & Becker agents, Motorworks in Huddersfield who specialise in BMW and are often breaking BM’s

I’m going to get a pair of hankook winter tyres on the front

Gotta fit Winter Tyres on all four wheels or you’ll find one end trying to catch the other which isn’t good!

Try taking the old bush along to an Agricultural Machine dealer – they seem to have stocks of all sorts of weird and wonderful bits – I get odd roll pins, circlips etc from them – Farmers are tight and will repair anything rather than buy a new one!

You should be able to get them from a good Motor Factors – my local mechanic sourced some for my ’03 Scenic RX4 here on the Isle of Wight! Renault don’t list them, only the whole shock at a ridiculous price!

Dog crates are great and they very quickly look on then as their ‘safe haven’. My two loved it and so did the furniture

+1 for that – 2 nights of whining and ever since Finn has been as good as gold – hates it when the cat settles down on his blanket

    Lovely looking pup :-)

Beware the descent off the Glandon – I saw several get hauled off in ambulances a couple of years ago :-( Don’t worry about water at the top of the Glandon, there are a couple of water points in villages further down the hill. If you hear thunder on the way to the feed in Valloire don’t stop, keep going ‘cos they’ll close the course up to the Galibier if there’s a risk of thunder and lightning. Get in a bunch along the Maurienne valley and don’t go to the front, the French are shocking wheel suckers. Enjoy the descent off the Galibier, the tunnels are fun and take your time going back up Alpe d’Huez as it should be about 40 C at the bottom. It’s a good ride, enjoy :-)

I lost my 8 1/2 yr old Black Lab “Arto” to Necrotising Pancreatitis on the 23rd Dec last year :-( out for a walk in the AM, fine and dandy, 8pm that night I hear retching from downstairs, he’s puking up white foam and obviously in some considerable discomfort. Called the vet and by 10.30pm we are in the Surgery, temperature is below normal wtf! Filled him with drugs and left him there overnight. They operated the follwing morning to see if they could find out what was up – huge pancreas, widespread infection. Unfortunately he died the following morning before we could go and see him. The overnight vet was in tears when he called to tell us and all the staff were fabulous. We’ve now got this monkey….

He’s 8 months old and while you can never replace your best friend he’s a bloody good substitute. We’ll shed a tear for Arto on the 23rd. I’m just very glad I didn’t have to make that decision and that he didn’t suffer for very long. Good luck it’s a toughie!

I had a 250 Gas Gas, probably about a 1997 model. Great bike, the only issue was the fact that the throttle was either on or off! Ok when you got used to it but the learning curve was steeeeep -definitely a better bike than I was a rider :-) Bullet proof tho’

I’ve been running them on my Scale 30 for a few years now. Touching wood, I haven’t had a puncture for a year or so :-) BUT previous to that, I punctured three races on the trot! I try not to use them “on-road” as the wear rate can be awful but they do all I want except when it’s really gloopy mud. Horses for courses methinks.
