Thanks for all advice. The bike is now boxed and ready for the flight tomorrow. The box is totally covered in tape for a bit of extra protection from rain and a bit of peace of mind! Now I just need to pack my clothes etc, get to the airport and enjoy a nice cold beer!

I’m not sure how people cope with the plastic boxes as I have a weight limit of 32KG and it weighs just over 30KG in a cardboard box (although I have snuck 2 pairs of shoes, my body armor and knee pads in – all for padding!).

All I can say is that I feel faster than I look (seen myself looking really slow on a couple of video clips!), but love it anyway.

My hand-me-down (from big sis) 80’s ghetto-blaster must have been the loudest as it went all the way up to 11 8)

That was my first hope and why I’ve got three boxes – I’ve been to three LBS, where I got the biggest box from each, but as I live in a rubbish area for mountain biking the boxes are all from skinny XC or road bikes which seem to be a bit smaller than my DH bike. I was hoping to box my bike with the back wheel on but I think I’m just gonna have to bite the bullet and take both wheels off and use loads of padding.

It doesn’t bother me if the idiots want to kill themselves, but what does boil my pish is that they use the road as a racetrack, ignore all speed limits, put other peoples lives at risk and act like male chickens and then try to make all drivers feel bad for being in a car!*

* I appreciate that not all bikers are like this and that some are great, but I only notice the bad ones (and there are alot of car drivers who also act like this). I also appreciate that I’m not a saint.

I have to agree with Gary, my wife got a cheap deal from Groupon (sp?) and we had four weeks worth and then just cancelled without any further hassle and what we did get was all lovely (even the stuff I thought I’d dislike, but tried anyway!).

Yes, but I thought if I’m going to get a new frame I may as well use the opportunity to get a bit more travel and slacker geometry as I’ve only used the Heckler for DH/Freeride/mucking about in the woods since I got it.

Euro, yes that’s my Heckler. I’m happy with the build, but I’ve been contemplating changing the forks for a while now and I’m now contemplating changing the forks and frame!

Generally it’s good, but sometimes it feels a bit too small / short for me (although it’s a Large I’m 6’5″) and it feels like my weight is too far forward when things get steep. Would a longer fork make things feel ‘better’ or would it totally knacker the geometry? Thanks.

I’ll be riding DH so I’ll be wearing body armour with an old cotton T-shirt on top, however if I need to wear a waterproof I’ll take the T-shirt off and just wear the jacket over body armour for the full boil-in-the-bag effect!
