Thanks, posts like this remind me how lucky we are, as both of our neighbours are great! I’d hate to have bad neighbours as there’s no getting away from them, I hope its sorted for you soon bigblackshed.

Should the cable be clipped into the black plastic guide (below where the gear cable is)?

I work from home and love the flexibility of not having anyone watching what I’m doing, the first couple of weeks are difficult as I felt guilty and ended up doing far more work than I did when I was in the office, but it’s calmed down now. I love the fact that I can have a stressful phone call/email and just walk the dog around the field to calm down and clear my head before doing anything else plus I’m in for all the CRC et-al packages!

Sometimes I do miss people, but I’m pretty much 50:50 office and meetings/sites so it’s not too bad as I see plenty of people while in meetings/sites, but don’t have to put up with hearing about the latest office dramas 🙂

This is the bike I ride on the road (occasionally), it’s a BFe and I love it because I can take it off the tarmac and onto the fun stuff 😆

Facebook says “We are pleased to inform you that Afflecks will be open for business as usual from tomorrow (Tuesday 16th July) we will be open from 10:30am.” and “Afflecks is open today – Entrance is via Church Street only – however once in you can visit all of your favourite shops. Please come and see us and show your support at this very sad and challenging time.”

I like this, if I didn’t work at home I’d suggest it for the office on Friday 😆

don’t even notice the hub noise if that helps at all.

    I like the noise myself

Cheers, I’m quite concious of it as I don’t pedal much on the DH bike so hear it all the time, but do quite like it although I sometimes feel like I’m spoiling other peoples peace and quiet!

FWIW, the hub doesn’t make a noise when you are climbing….

Oh balls, now I feel stupid 😳

..but the noisy hub would get annoying if riding for any length of time.

Of course it’s for the dog!

Once he’s in there’s no room for anyone else, here he is from last year:

Why? If people didn’t die and/or if there’s no chance of the lake being made out of bounds would you feel the need for one last swim? 🙄

No one has mentioned a workstand – would be a pain without one

Something else on the nice, but not essential list, I think you need to build a few bikes without one to appreciate how good they are though!

I think using the school’s phone pails into insignificance compared to banging hookers on a school trip 😯

    Torque wrench?

I’ve built quite a few bikes over the years and still don’t have one, so think its more of a optional tool, depending on budget, but I’m sure someone will be along to disagree!

*EDIT – I’ve no carbon components to worry about, but a torque wrench is still on my wish list for when I’m feeling flush/ find an unmissable bargain/ have an overwhelming desire to buy tools!!

Although it does look like a ‘comedy’ fake nose (or it could just be the heat finally getting to me)!

    No lists showing rider times.

Personally I think this should be rolled out for the whole country/all sportives, as they are only allowed on open roads because they are not a race, however due to the publication of times I believe that they are treated as a race by many entrants and if you’ve ever tried to drive anywhere while there’s a sportive on it’s a bloody nightmare as the riders (or at least some of them) appear more concerned with beating the clock/each other than their own safety (and that of other road users).

I’ve flown easyjet from Gatwick to Geneva the last two years with a Full face helmet strapped to my bag and no-ones said a word. I think it helped that the bag I strapped it to wasn’t too big (it was my Camelback so fairly obvious I’d paid for a bag in the hold and wasn’t taking the P). That said however I was fully prepared to sit on a plane for a couple of hours wearing it if I had to!

    but it was being pushed.

Next time just claim it’s your novelty Zimmer-frame, this will cause the jobs worth’s head to explode as they’ve been told not to let bikes in, but they’ve also been told to be nice to the disabled 🙄

Cheers all, I thought about slick tyres on my hardtail, but discounted it as the BFe is built more for durability than comfort and is a little too small for me to be pedalling for any length of time.

I don’t think I can do the cycle to work scheme as I work from home, but I will try to plan a couple of site visits that take me past a Decathlon, Evans etc!
