This reminds me of the time my Sister was in Morrisons on Christmas eve and while two old ladies were arguing over the last bag of spouts she swiped ’em without either noticing! 😆

I think instead of “so it must have been lost” I should have put “so the only other option is that the RM lost it”, however I think people are generally honest and do hope the buyer was too. As you say I have no way to be sure, but feel better about being let down by a ball-up than being scammed!

To be fair, you have no idea wether they did or not.

I have the buyer word that it didn’t arrive (they could be lying, but I hope not) so it must have been lost.

You can’t check either way. Which isn’t their fault.

    True 😳

You took a risk to save money, it didn’t pay off – pay up and learn from it.

What risk did I take to save money? As I see it I just ballsed up by not keeping the receipt safe and by trusting the RM to deliver a parcel!

Sorry it’s not helpful, but thought I’d try to get in before anyone else:

“having lost the receipt” you claimed that you binned it?

I’m not sure whether I binned it during a wallet clear out or lost it in the office having left it on my desk after posting, but either way both are my fault and the outcome is the same!

your fault you should’ve kept the receipt until confirmed they had received the goods. Give them the refund and accept on this occasion you have been a bit silly.

See post above, that’s what I’ve done!

EDIT: but I’m still annoyed that the RM lost a bloody parcel!

No he said he posted it 1st class, totally different from recorded. I check online to see if parcel arrives before throwing receipt away.

It was 1st class Signed for and I should have checked on line before throwing away the receipt, but didn’t. All I can do now is try to learn from my stupid mistake and be thankful it was just an old knackered set of brakes sent for spares!

So you’ve already decided it’s the RM’s fault?

Who else’s fault is it that a parcel was lost by RM? I printed the buyers address from Paypal (same as address in email) and posted it at the post office, so unless the buyer is lying (which I’ll give them benefit of the doubt about) I don’t see who else could have lost the parcel! Yes, I shouldn’t have lost/binned the receipt, but that wouldn’t have mattered if RM had done their job and not lost the bloody parcel 🙄

    EDIT:

Bastards trying to get out of it on a technicality, I’ll go and complain on a bike forum, they’ll back me up

I didn’t mean to start off complaining, as I wanted advice on what to do and have now given a full refund. I appreciate that there’s not much that can be done without a receipt, but it is annoying that RM have lost a parcel and there is nothing that I can do about it (yes my fault I know, but even with the receipt it looks like I’d just get refund of postage cost and still not have the brakes!), besides had RM done their jobs in the fist place it wouldn’t matter if I had the receipt or not, but hey ho you live and learn!

Whatever happened to “jump and i’ll catch you if you fall and break your legs don’t come running to me”?

    give me a summary

Kid climbs tree, gets stuck, Mum calls 999, Fire Brigade ‘rescue’ kid, Mum takes photos of the whole ‘ordeal’ and claims 15 seconds of fame in Daily Fail, we follow link posted on bike website and judge Mum!

Only you can decide whether it’s worth it – do you want your money back?

Yes I do, but from reading the Royal Mail website it looks like they will try to wriggle out of paying anything and having lost the receipt they’ll probably just tell me to jog-on. It looks like at best I might get the cost of postage back, but nothing for the lost brakes. Is this right or have others had any better experience with the Royal Mail claims?

I think this is probably just another of those annoying lessons to keep hold of all receipts 🙁

Oh Cock, I thought so, but having spoken to the Royal Mail they aren’t being at all helpful. Once I’ve given the refund what’s the chances of getting anywhere with the Royal Mail (is it even worth filling in and sending off a P58)?

Is the Effective Top Tube length the best way to compare DH bike sizes?

If so my tape-measure wielding skills have given me an effective top tube length of approx 560mm for the Bullit, which looks to be about the same length as a small Session 88 and about 60-70mm shorter than the XL! Are the more modern DH/FR frames lower and longer than in the mid 2000’s?

Do you really want a proper DH bike

I have the DH bike for uplifts and trips to the Alps and a BFe for everything else.

I think having a favourite pub is a little like having a favourite hand, I may spend more ‘time’ with my right hand, but it doesn’t mean I like the left one any less!

    A 37″ 3rd leg would be more impressive 😆

How about an One-One Inbred for £800 and spending the remaining £200 on shiny bits, pedals, riding gear, nice helmet etc?

I was in the pub with a mate, who had a habit of leaving his phone on the table, so I waited until he was in the loo and quickly found my name in his phone book and changed it to that of his girlfriend and waited a while, then later while he was at the bar I sent him a txt telling him I’d given him crabs. The look on his face was priceless 😆

Cheers kcal, we’ve already discussed who we want to nominate as a guardian and a ‘back-up’ and will probably go with half of anything we leave being used to pay the boys way and half in trust till he’s older etc.

    +1 local solicitor

How do I find a good one who won’t rip me off, do I just pop into a few locally and ask for ‘quotes’ to compare?

have you sorted out both of your life insurances?

Both? Do you mean wife and me? If so we’ve already got a joint policy which we took out when we bought the house.

    QOM ?

I’m presuming it’s a Strava thing like King of the Mountain (KOM), but for either women (Queen of the Mountain) or Homosexuals (Queer of the Mountain) 😉

Sun-cream +1, I burned the backs of my heals/lower calf quite badly once as it’s an easily missed area!

I’d also say don’t use your arms as (in my experience) just using your legs/fins seems to makes you far less scary to fish etc.

Why would being honest mean you’re a mug?

It wouldn’t and I know that now 😳

Somewhere out there is a person with two front wheels having a little cry.

Yep, so I’m quite lucky although I still can’t use them this weekend as planned 🙁 I’ve emailed Wiggle and will see what they do now and hope they sort it quickly.

Thanks both, I was leaning towards being honest, but just wanted to make sure I’m not being a mug! 😀

I’ll give them a call in the morning to arrange a replacement front and them collecting one of the rears.

My lapierre didn’t qualify for super bike. So it must qualify for this

As I can only see a picture icon square I presume that your Lapierre doesn’t qualify for the “rag around the woods ” bikes either 😆
