Have you tried an astringent to dry it out.. Something with tee tree oil or event just some aftershave ..  Keeping it covered with a plaster won’t help . You want to dry it up to stop the itch.

It’s not covered during the day (or much of the night for that matter), but trying to stop her scratching while she’s not got other things to distract her. Can you recommend an astringent , that we may already have in the house, which won’t sting too much as I don’t think she’d be too impressed if I put aftershave on it?!

    Novelty plaster?

I suspect that would be even worse as she’d take it off even quicker to look at the picture!

the tool can be about 50 euro from germany

I’ve tried looking, but I can only find it more expensive on the German sites, any chance you can remember where you saw it for €50?

It depends what you want, we stayed on one in Brittany for a week this year, but other than sleeping and a couple of trips to the pool we spent very little time there as we were out and about every day!

I’ve bodged together a bookshelf for the otherwise wasted space at the end of the kids bed:

This is a new one for me, but getting into bed with freshly shaved legs – somehow the sheets feel awesome!

I tried it in Jul 2015 during my first 100miler and ended up walking, it’s been bugging me since so a couple of weeks ago I took a day off work and planned a 70miler with it in and managed to ride it in 8.58, I think I could have gone slightly quicker, but held back a bit as I knew I had to climb out of Winchcombe past the castle! When I got there the road was closed, however after chatting to a local postie decided to try it anyway and just pushed the bike through the roadworks (laying fibre cables), but presume they’ve finished now!

Cheers all, it’ll be my aluminium road bike so nothing flash. It won’t fit inside the car, but I’ll lock it to something large/heavy (like a bed) during the day, take the usual precautions and make sure we’ve got insurance.

My main concern was that I’ve heard the horror stories about bikes at centre parks and wanted to check that it’s not the same elsewhere.

It’s the Chateau de Galinée site near St Malo if that makes any difference!

I hadn’t thought about crash replacement, does anyone know if Mavic do crash replacement and if so is any good?

although the old adage “Don’t race what you can’t replace” comes to mind here

That’s why I want to have insurance in place before using the wheels which I can’t really afford to replace!

I agree that the NSL sign indicates a speed limit of 60/70 mph for cars, however can see where the OP is coming from, the below are both from the gov.uk website:

1: This confirms that the NSL sign indicates that ‘The national speed limit for the type of road and class of traffic applies’:

2: However this states that the NSL in a built up area is 30mph:

Shared shower blocks really aren’t a problem, for a few days, but could be for a week or two.

We’re planning on doing things fairly last minute (with weather forecasts being a big influence) so the British weather won’t be too much of an issue.

Wow, I wasn’t expecting quite so much negativity, however the point I was trying, but obviously failed, to make was that we want spend time in the ‘outdoors’, enjoying the British weather etc with the kids, but are only (currently) planning short trips so don’t need the kitchen sink, but what do we need to make it as enjoyable as possible?. Thanks for the advice above.

Sorry, I’m not trolling, it’s just my experience of camp sites is limited to a few bike trips where the weather has been so poo that we’ve felt the need for showers and didn’t really think about just wearing flip-flops

I think the kids would love camping and the plan is that we can visit more places which are just a bit too far away for a day trip and have the flexibility to do it on pretty short notice.

It was proper willy waving…keeping up with the jones’s

This is what I want to avoid, hence asking what we actually ‘need’ rather than what the shop wants to sell us!

stop being so precious about shared shower and toilets!

Not being precious, just don’t enjoy having to walk across a field to pee in the middle of the night and I’m too uncoordinated to get dried and dressed in a cubicle without getting wet socks!!

Update: I didn’t bother with MIU and instead spent most of the day sat on the floor playing with lego (I even let the kids join in  ).

It’s still bloody sore and swolen, but if i poke about there’s no specific pain so I don’t think there’s a fracture, which was my biggest worry, so I’ll see how it goes and book a GP appointment if it’s no better next week!

Also if you go near an MIU it will potentially need x-ray, and then review at hospital.

Our local MIU is in the small local hospital and has it’s own X-ray so not as useless as others!

A few years ago I joined the local cycling club and after my wife and kids it’s probably the best thing I’ve ever done, every week there is always someone to ride with and have a coffee and a few laughs and plenty of other informal rides throughout the week, I’ve lost weight and made new friends, I’d thouroughly recommend it.

Is the birthday party in the centre of town? The chain budget hotels are mostly on the outskirts of town so what you save on the hotel you may end up paying in taxi fare!

EDIT: or you could just blag your way into the youth hostel on Hythe Bridge Street and spend the night on the sofa watching TV or playing pool with some pished-up Dutch lads!!

the scholl ones being only 3/4 length might be OK?

Thanks All, looks like it’ll be easier to use a batten. I want to get the bikes into as little space as possible so plan to stagger the hooks between two levels, any advice on best spacing or am I best just fitting the first hook and seeing where will work?

Well done molgrips, in regards to the GPS, did it get confused by the out and back route or did you split it into two separate legs?

I may be wrong, but chatting to my LBS I get the impression that the servicing side of things is very busy, but barely breaks even and is only really there to get people into the shop!

Just spread more ‘sealant’* over the rest of the trousers so the stain disappears!

*producing enough ‘sealant’ to totally cover a pair of trousers might take a few days!

The cow and dolphin are left up to the artist’s interpretation!
