if it’s drum n bass you’re after then head here:
    http://www.ukfmusic.com/podcasts/

currently 27 mixes from top DnB producers, no 4, 12 & 13 are highlights for me. No 4 is from flux pavilion, very edgy angry stuff with swearing oooohhhh, not likely to find it on the BBC EM!!

whats your bike made of and are you really concerned about weight?
if your bike is steel or alu, get the cheaper, the bike’s heavy anyway so this won’t matter. If your bike is carbon and you’re a weigth nut get the XT. I’ve had both and can honestly say I’ve found no difference in the way they change and ride but the Xt was lighter. I know some riders who won’t contemplate anything other than Xt components, this attitude is silly imo, if it works it works.

As a very good alternative you could try an app on your smartphone. I use ‘TuneIn Radio’ on Android but I know it’s available for Iphone too, it’s very good. There are thousands of international radio stations you can listn to, mostly advert free, listener supported but all your BBC ones are on there too. It works best around the house with a wifi but I’ve been surprised how effective it is out and about in the car, it keeps the signal pretty well. Better in town around decent H (data) signal areas but still mostly works well in G areas, rural & motorways etc. I’ve yet to see how much data it takes but I have an unlimited tarrif for data.

@ tarquin – yeah, don’t you ever do that. It may not always be the smallest on the back but going up hills in the big ring is a great way to get the heart pumping. It’s also like a challenge when going up the steepest of hills, how long can you keep pumping in the big ring. For me when I stand up on the pedals the gears needs to be higher than it would be if I was sitting.

I did the taff trail in the opposite direction from brecon all the way down to cardiff, just last week. There are hills but not many although there is one very large and steep hill you will encounter going that way. Out of brecon after the canal bit you pass a resovoir and then start climbing, going south this hill is a steady incline for approx 4/5 miles, then a very steep drop and then pretty much flat all the way. So going north, you’ll have a steep hill and then a beautiful long roll down to brecon. I wouldn’t go buying a new bike, not sure about the 3 gears bit (you could get off and push) but the terrain doesn’t call for suspension. If you already have a MTb then I would probably take it.have fun.

I did this ride just last week, had a great time. If you’re doing it southways, the bit between welshpool and builth wells is a long trek, I’d consider taking the major road for a few of those sections to gain some time. The cycle route always takes the minor roads or tracks but up down up down ALL day. The taff trail from brecon to cardiff is beautiful, reward day. After the LONG climb alongside the resovoir there are no more big hills and it’s pretty much tarmac off-road track all the way. The signage is mostly good but a bit hit n miss in places, and there’s a spot in a housing estate where there is road/track work going on and the workmen have just blocked the path without putting up diversion alt signs, very annoying when you’re trying to make a train in Cardiff. Take a map is what I’m saying and if you have a smartphone with google maps that would also be helpful. Also, if you short of time you can skip the last 6 miles and get a train to cardiff, costs just £3, route 8 passes right by Taffs Wells train station.
    Have a good one.

you’ll need to prove to the lender that you can support the mortgage on your income, as a rough idea take your gross basic + half of any bonus/overtime/car allowance & timws that figure by 4.3, if that figure is less than your mortgage they may not let your wife come off the mortgage, each lender has their own criteria so give em a ring. Legal work will also be involved which will cost less than £150 generally.

ahhh I see, st bees to whitby is the wainwrights c2c as opposed to the sustrans. Good luck dude.

self employed shouldn’t be a problem, most if not all lenders will require 3 years figures. If you’re a sole trader they will use the net profit figure shown on your tax returns. If this figure is declining over the 3 years you may also have some issues there.
Good luck. I am a mortgage adviser by trade, my advice is a fixed rate, for 5 years or 10 years if you can commit to that.
Going into a mortgage with your friend is tricky though, what will happen when one of you find a woman and want a mortgage with them or just to move and the other doesn’t. In that situation if you want to keep that mortgage you’ll have to show to the lender that you can support the mortgage with your own income.

my tip is . . . out of rookhope, take the offroad choice, DO NOT take the road, the hill out of stanhope is a nightmare.

cannock chase is probably about 40 mins from ashbourne, postcode is WS15 1ND.
That area is called the white peak, find a local shop and buy this
    http://www.bikemaps.co.uk/peak_district_white_peak.htm

failing that, bring up bing maps, switch to OS and scout around for bridleways. There’s the churnet valley way, starts fron Denstone and ends at oakamoor, which is 4 miles of offroad track (all flat) alongside alton towers, you could link that up with some other offroad stuff, there’s a few bridleways that way if I remember but can’t give you any specifics. If you haven’t been before I would defo go to Cannock, it’s ace.

pick a bit of the lon las cymru that interests you, sustrans route 8, goes from the top to the bottom. I’d probably go for the northern section. I’m cycling part of it from Llanidloes to cardiff starting thursday, can’t wait.

So with mid range components (shimano deore for eg) you’d expect to have a complete bike for around 5-600 quid?

    jekkyl

so when you’re saying £200, this is for the frame itself and not for the whole bike?

If I were you, cancel it and hire one nearer Keswick. You’d have the choice of Helvellyen, Skiddaw or Blencathra to climb and thats just the ones close by. You can hire bikes, canoes and there is a ton of pubs and restaurants in Keswick not forgetting the pencil museum. Actually it’s November, nah stay in wasdale, do the pike & then get very very drunk.

in Wasdale your only option is drinking or mountain walking and that’s it. There is nothing there but a pub and a tiny campsite shop. There is nowhere to hire bikes or canoes or anything else. How many days are you there for?
