Yes yes & yes. Buy an external drive and copy all your data onto there. Export all your bookmarks & everything else you want to keep & copy those across to the drive too. Put the windows disc in & reboot the machine, it should boot to the disc, select format and wipe the machine. It will take about half a day & your machine will run like new, do it once a year!

finish work at 8, followed by urban night ride (if it’s not totally lashing down) followed by Stella Artois and S&V crisps until I nod off sometime around 1.30 and then drag my arse to bed.
    Love Friday night :-)

The standard survey will highlight any areas of concern, like damp or trees or something, this is likely to put you off buying it. The mortgage compnay doesn’t need any more than the standard so I’d do that if I were you.

I’m qualified in financial advice, bleh de bleh de bleh, got FPCs the whole bit. Hate the industry though, loads of changes in the last 2 years, regulation is a nightmare after the credit crunch and set to get a load worse.

There are some pretty nasty rocky bits where both me and my mate, both experienced mtbers, came a cropper so I think I would class it as medium to hard. Saying that, it is an awesome ride. Have a look at an OS map as there’s a little bridleway that’ll take you along the waters edge and past an interesting sculpture before the first big climb behind the youth hostel. That first road bit after the big climb through the trees to watendlath is awesome, great bit of road, very atmospheric. Also some cheeky bits through the woods at the end. Search through this forum or have a look at an OS map. Have a good time. I’ve done it 3 times now and I will do it again.

It’s harmless fun if you don’t go in to make a ton of cash. I use poker stars and deposited $15 a year ago and I’ve still got most of it, it’s been as low as 1 dollar and as high as 27. I play the micro tables for fun so the blinds are like 2 cents & 4 cents. Either sit & go or the micro tournaments where they can last an hour or so and you can come away with 5 dollars, woo hooo. I can play on the tablet or on my phone, so if the wife is watching america’s next top shallow bint I can be with her in the living but doing my own thing.
If you wanna learn play the zynga one on facebook.

most popular books are available as audio books. We go to sleep on one every night. We’re working our way through the game of thrones books at the moment, excellent series. All the disc world novels are available too, not exactly gripping but very entertaining. It helps cost wise to use piratebay or other such illegal torrenting methods.

He’s not a small dog. There are 3 sizes of dachshund, toy, mini and standard, he is a standard and his height is just below my knee and I’m 6ft. My wife also has opinion and it’s her dog really, she owned it before they both moved in with me. She thinks that any life is better than none, I’m not sure I agree so anywhere we do give it we shall be asking some direct questions about it’s day to day life and any restrictions. It’s a terrible poisition to be in and it’s very sad because we love him so much.

I totally agree teamhurtmore, you don’t go around kicking animals unless you’re a moron.

Anyway, thanks for all the replies on here guys, some were useful some less so.
We spent a large part of yesterday ringing & emailing our extended family to see if anyone might take him, no joy so far. We’re now looking at the Dogs Trust as some have suggested on here. On their FAQ about hard to rehome dogs apparently they have a Sancturay:

Some of our dogs prefer not to live with people and these live in our sanctuary.

This large secure field with shelter, allows dogs to roam and form natural relationships within the group.

The dogs here are happy, content and living a life free of the stresses with which they have shown they cannot cope. They are fed regularly, health-checked and have human interaction with two dedicated carers.

So this looks our best bet and I will give them a ring later. We’ll make a decent donation & pledge to donate every year until he dies, we could also see if we can sponsor him so we can get updates on his welfare and stuff. I hope that we can also go up and take him out for walks if he doesn’t get rehomed. This seems a lot more appealing than putting him down.
    :-)

I’ve just rung the vets for advice and a couple of rescue homes. They all said the same thing, he can’t be rehomed due to his age and for having a history of biting. So the only choice we have is either find a family friend who might have him or give him the needle. His name is Cabbage by the way, Cabbage the dachshund.

The dog was on the sofa because that where he likes to sit. I agree that dogs shouldn’t be on the sofa but if we told him off for sitting on it we’d be shoving him off it all day and anyway he just goes and sits on the other one anyway and he probably sits on them all day when we are out. The baby was there because she likes to sit on the sofa too, they sit together all the time without any previous incident and they get on fine (mostly)

The other time he bit her it was in the conservatory and on the floor. Some of the other times he has bitten people I would say yes real aggression with snarling. I agree that dogs do ‘bite’ other dogs just as communication or playfulness but of course my daughter is not a dog and a ‘nip’ could puncture her eye or similar.

he’s as healthy as larry, no signs of dieing yet (unfortunately) & dachshunds do generally live a shorter life than most breeds. The breed do have a problem with their backbone in later life so we keep him really trim and he’s very energentic, even after I take him out for 6 miles along the canal.

& no I’m not a troll either unfortunately. When I said it’s not practical I meant like if I’m the house without the wife and both kid and child are there, it’s not practical to pick the kid up and take her with me everytime I want the toilet or something.

@letme we are in north Staffordshire, stafford way, he is 12. He has been socialised with other dogs if that’s what you mean. My bro in law has a dog and he often stays with him and his dog (a bitch staffy) when we go on holiday often for a week or so and when we have that dog to stay. There’s never any trouble between the two and they play together fine.
Thanks for your offer, very very kind. I think all the posts on here have focussed my thoughts and I agree yes we have to get rid of him. I shall ring round the shelters in our immediate area today and also those pedigree numbers given by sandwich (thanks). letme you would be welcome to have him if you can. He is a lovely dog (obvisously apart from this)

He has been neutered yes, later in life at aged 9 or so. He was a rescue dog to start with, my wife got him as a year old pup from a home and he is now 12 years old.

I love it when someone passes me, like red rag to a bull. I like to say something like ‘oh you’ve got a race on now’ – espicially love it when a roadie passes me and then when/if I get to pass them, feel like ‘yeahhhhhhh in your face roadie’

next question about fixies. What ‘gear’ do you fix in at?
I mean what gear is it equivalent to on a standard 3 front 9 back geared mtb? I would think you would tend to have it more towards the big ring on the front with something around the mid to lower end on the back. Gear 20-23?

    jekkyl

so you can reverse or stop your cranking to brake?
    does that work.

    jekkyl
    Full Member

yeah but even on single speed non fixies, not having gears means on big hills you can only go as fast as gravity makes you, what do you do with your time? compose a sonnet? plan your weekend? sing a song? whistle a tune? la la la.

    jekkyl

so when you’re going downhill your legs will be going ten to the dozen or do you just lift your legs off like a kid through a puddle?
Also, no gears? what about when you want to go stonkingly fast on a road hill? you’re limited without gears.

Ok Ok I guess if you chopped his head off he wouldn’t grow another but apart from this I reckon he is immortal. Is there back story in the comics to clarify if he is immortal?

Wolverine is the best X men, because he’s immortal and hard as nails, he just jumps straight in, without fear of getting hurt or dead. If I was going to be an Xman I’d be wolverine.

there are barges for sale on ebay!

I feel like this almost every day, this issue is never addressed, I think everyone goes through some sort of Early adult life crisis, where you have a job & a car and getting it together and you realise omg this is sh!t, I have to do this everyday for how many years?!!

IF you sell your house and all your stuff and travel the world, how long for? at some point you will have to come back to the UK and start it all again, afterall, you don’t want to be renting when you retire! and what about that marvellous DVD collection you’ve managed to build up?

    so what’s to do?
Live in a teepee in wales? live in sun trap tourist spot working in a bar? you could live in india/indonesia/vietnam etc for quite a few years on 15k, living frugally. but it’d be dirty & hot and you probably wouldn’t get a very good internet signal in your beach hut.

My advice? do nought, the feeling will pass, carry on going to work and buying crap. Drink more or take some drugs & go clubbing to get off your head at the weekend so you can forget about the absolute blinding banality of it all. Spend time with good friends, go out for dinner, go out for rides. Enjoy what you have and think how nice it’d be if you were a millionaire

I bought a new tele last year, spent loads of time researching and asking people before purchasing. My research conclusion in summary was ‘buy a panasonic’ & if they offer a five year guarantee for like another 50 quid, take that too. :-)

when we were kids my brother used to ‘waft’ the essence towards me with a hand whilst saying ‘Smell the Beauty’ – stuck around in the family forever and now I occasionlly say it to the Wife unless she trumps me and says ‘No I will not smell the beauty’ just after I’ve farted.

Can’t say I’ve ever had any problems with bouncing feet, I have dmr V8s on my bike and the spikes grip into these shoes pretty well. It seems that a lot of specific mtb gear costs the earth but it doesn’t have to.
